Stop what you're doing and check out Harmony of a Hunter Returns ASAP - today's the 35th anniversary of Metroid and the 10th anniversary of Shinesparkers' original Harmony of a Hunter album, and the sequel continues the tradition with some amazing tunes! To celebrate we've got a featured selection from judge & ReMixer Gario (Greg Nourse):
"Hello, it's been a hot minute since I've submit anything on here. I have a project mix from the 2021 Harmony of a Hunter album that I have permission to share with OCR, so I hope you enjoy it. Got some new tools that I'm using (newer Reason software updates, new instruments, etc.), and they really helped make this arrangement shine. I'd add more to it than that, but I think I can let the ReMix do the talking at this point. Enjoy!"
Upgrade++! Sounds great, as Greg puts an energetic chip-centric dance/EDM spin on "Brinstar - Plant Overgrowth Area" - Rexy evaluated:
"It feels weird for me to say that the last time Greg got posted was before I joined staff, and yet hearing this back makes me think that his writing style hasn't changed much at all - which is a good thing! He's all about the chirpy synths, articulations, variation on the arpeggio writing, effective use of gates, creamy synth solos, and being an absolute demon with Reason's tools. I was alarmed with the Roland GS-sounding drum kit among the rest of the palette - but it is tightly mixed and has enough reverb applied to coordinate with the other instruments and steer it more into pseudo-synthwave territory.
The arrangement is also really worth the spectacle. Throughout the track's 6+ minute duration, Greg had broken apart the source to demonstrate multiple techniques. I heard double time, half time, melodic variation, harmonies, counter-melodies, application over unique chord structures, overlapping multiple motifs at once, and even combinations of more than one of these - and he only used the loop's first minute! Intro outstanding, the ability to flick anywhere and notice any utilized source fragment shows that he knows to change things drastically while maintaining the familiarity. Greg still has it and nailed everything down to a science - a worthy addition to the album!"
Very upbeat & fun take on a moodier, more ambient soundtrack, as Greg chips it up in style. Enjoy, and enjoy the rest of Harmony of a Hunter Returns!!

This is wicked groovy, I love all of the clever modulations and twists you spun on the melody while still keeping things recognizable throughout. Also seconding everyone else who complimented your drums!

Cool ReMix! It's a "straightforward" reinterpretation as it's chippy EDM but it works extremely well! Love the 80s-style drum fill breaks for example. It's very pleasant to pick up the familiar themes and riffs, and there is a lot of original writing that fits in very well. The end result is an energetic mix that brings something new out of the original while maintaining a deep connection to it.
