ymK (Kris Camago) debuted just last year, and each new mix - from Chrono Trigger to DKC to Super Metroid - has been a real treat, leading up to this fourth featured mix, a progressive house take on FF7's "Cosmo Canyon"/"Red XIII" themes that offers up 6+ minutes of infectious groove:
"It's been a while since my last submission since life has a way of getting in the way. This is another melodic/progressive house song in three parts. The first and second sections follow "Cosmo Canyon" and "Red XIII's Theme," while the last section utilizes bits and pieces from the previous section and adds its own unique flavor.
I hope you all enjoy this one. Thanks again, OCR! And one day I hope I'm able to contribute to OCR in more than just submitting my music. I'm always down to teach and provide input on songs."
Sections of this are sparse, but there's always direction, a focus on melody (often on synth-style EP/keys), and a superb level of attention to detail - pay close attention to the transitions between measures for little rhythmic artifacts & FX that really elevate the overall production. Even the subtle vinyl/cracking fire on the intro is a nice touch, and when the lofi (disco!) string stabs enter at 1'23", it helps connect those textural dots. 6'39" is a good chunk o' time, but Kris keeps it interesting throughout with heapin' helpins of rhythmic variation, switching between kick/bass patterns that are straight eighths, a more psytrance-style pattern at 1'59" for the chorus, and dropping out entirely. Production also peppers in some traditional Japanese elements to connect back to the source, and in general these strong Uematsu melodies afford the arranger many opportunities for playful, creative interpretation & interation - all of which are taken. 4'07" wolf howl was ace. 5'01" to 5'05" is a beautiful sorta false drop/transition, executed with the precision & placement of a world-class gymnast. Everything is tight & specific, while ALSO managing to be quite a bit of fun, and I just have a hard time imagining not enjoying this one on *some* level. Superb, satisfying, & perhaps best-yet work from ymK; highly recommended!

I've always been a fan of the cosmo canyon music and this remix is an excellent rendition of it. It's low-key and keeps a nice steady pace throughout. Very well done. :)

I like the atmosphere a lot. The lofi stuff makes it cute. The detune on the lead is a cool effect, but when the strings come to back it up in its gives it a lot more flavor and the call and response parts are pleasant.
The detail in this song is subtle but its more than enough to make the whole 6 minutes worth. Good job.
