Music education YouTuber Charles Cornell just dropped a lengthy video praising the VGM virtuosity of Yuzo Koshiro's Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack! Having grown up playing SoR1 & 2 myself, his mind was justifiably blown by Koshiro's electronic and house compositions, so what better way to co-sign with Charles that Koshiro music is true art than by posting some SoR2? To celebrate, Parker Walker is coming out the gate strong with a pair of faithful 90s-style Streets of Rage 2 ReMixes, first with some HOUSE MUSIC:

"My 90's dance remix of the classic "Go Straight" from Streets of Rage 2. For this mix, I took a more conservative approach, because all the elements of the original are very "90s". Hence, I kept the 90s feel, yet didn't go for a total FM sound like my other SOR2 remix because I think that, honestly, Yuzo did it the best on this one and I can't surpass him. Instead, I went for 90s house feel using 90s production techniques, arrangements, and sounds. I even used the legendary JD-990 synthesizer (produced at the time) and samples from the TR-909 to give extra authenticity and 90s feel. All the bass sounds are from chip MD, a Sega FM emulator. All in all, it's a re-imagining of what the song would have been using state of the art production techniques at the time, and a quite conservative homage on this classic v-game track. I hope the fans enjoy!"

The ended up being resubmitted because Parker accidentally chopped out the lower frequencies (OOPS! It happens!), so with the full spectrum engaged, this one's club-approved to get your body movin', and an excellent showcase of what Plogue's (Koshiro-endorsed :-D) chipsynth MD can do! In his vote on the initial version, XPRTNovice tipped his cap towards how Parker meaningfully personalized and enhanced his approach:

"Arrangement wise, this is spot on and I really like the feel that you're going for. Enough of a hat tip to the original, but enough of your own interpretation too."

I was initially worried it might not feel interpretive enough, but I've heard enough of Parker's work now to feel confident that it wasn't going to be a problem, so I'm glad that was the case. I agreed with Joe's frame, as Parker employed good variations of the sounds and textures to provide the distinction compared to the source, so while the groove's instantly recognizable from stage 1, there's more than enough to also stand apart from the original, a difficult needle to thread. Clean sound, with fun use of the sample club vocals and in-game voices as well. Charles Cornell LOVES "Go Straight", so here's hoping he'd dig this as well. Grand (read: Ground ;-D) Upper-level energy from Parker, who's got his house game on point! AND his DnB's not bad at all, as we'll hear from his next ReMix...

As a fan of streets of rage music, I gotta say that this was splendidly done. Excellent use of the source and even more excellent and tasty useful use of original samples. Gold star!
