OC ReMix is 24 years young! Humbly started on a computer in djpretzel's parents' basement, OCR's grown to have more than 1,500 musicians arrange and/or perform more than 4,000 VGM arrangements, pave the way for many aspiring game & media composers, and -- most importantly -- gain recognition for video game music as an art form on the same level of any other music. There are still challenges in that last important goal, but we've come a long, long way, so I wanted us to celebrate with something whimsical. Enjoy our anniversary with RebeccaETripp & Gamer of the Winds' folksy depiction of Chrono Trigger's "Millennial Fair"! Looking back so long ago, it feels appropriate that Rebecca channeled both the fun-filled feelings of childhood and great times experienced at the fair, something loads of you 16-bit RPG players remember with particular fondness:

"This is my rendition of the "Leene Square", a.k.a. "Millennial Fair" theme, from Chrono Trigger, originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I tried to create a feeling of childlike wonder and joy in this arrangement. I wanted to re-capture the feeling I had as a kid playing this game for the first time, trying all the attractions, mini-games, etc. It was incredible! I was trying to make it feel unique, while still preserving the original spirit of the song. I put a lot of myself into this, I think. Hopefully, it feels like some kind of platonic, timeless carnival bringing about feelings of togetherness, celebration, and a purely human mode of enthusiasm. I really want this song to make people happy! ^_^

I've kind of wanted to create another version of this song for some time now, but I kept putting it off because I've had so many other projects going on! I did the track earlier than expected, however, because it was nominated and voted for by my patrons on Subscribestar. If you would like to have some influence over what music I compose each month, you can subscribe to me here: https://subscribestar.com/rebeccaetripp.

For a long time, I didn't do much with percussion at all. Overall, I would say that I often leave it out, but it's very fun to play with it sometimes! The flute and piccolo parts were performed by Greg Orosz, a.k.a. Gamer of the Winds! Please check out more of his work here: https://youtube.com/channel/UCQFIzKI61fxibPgfPKeJQxw. He is invaluable!"

My holiday wish for Gamer of the Winds is for some more gigs to display his love of and affinity for woodwinds; Greg always adds that extra dash of depth that brings things to life, which was effusively put over by judge Emunator:

"I always love when Rebecca and Gamer of the Winds work together. Gregory's emotive, spritely performances fit PERFECTLY here..."

The jaw harp stuff sounds goofy (in a light-hearted way), yet gets your attention right off the bat. Throughout the piece, Rebecca and Greg's treatment of the theme has awesome personalization via the varied instruments, SFX cameos, and some neat textural approaches we haven't had the good fortune to hear from Rebecca until now. You can truly rely on Tripp to beautifully and capably adapt her theme of choice into mellow, relaxed instrumentation; I'm always excited when it's time to see what she's done next. We hope you enjoy this intimate, charming, and joyful trip to the fair!
