ReMix:Super Mario Galaxy "Gusty Garden Galaxy, But It Sounds Like T-Square" 4:13

An epic return from WillRock, who's riding high off recent success as a game composer for Battle Shapers, from what I've seen him say:

Wait, wut...? Welp, we know the music *has* to be good, since WillRock and DaMonz scored it! Plus, speaking of scores, the Steam reviews for Battle Shapers are actually *really* good (9/10!), so maybe Yahtzee was just triggered by the color magenta. ;-) WillRock's always suffering from success -- case in point, WillRock successfully fused Mahito Yokota's music from Super Mario Galaxy with stylistic inspiration from T-Square, specifically the late Hirotaka Izumi's opening track to the band's classic album R•E•S•O•R•T! WillRock heard the melody at :27 of "Omens of Love", and, according to him, voilà, a flash of brilliance was triggered:

"Hai. So I was listening to "Omens of Love" by T-Square. One thing you might notice about this is that the opening of the main synth melody sounds a lot like the opening of "Gusty Garden Galaxy", so I used this track as a jumping off point to create a cover version of the "Gusty Garden Galaxy" theme in the style of this T-Square song. This is the result!

It also features a guitar solo that shares an opening few notes with the guitar solo in "Omens of Love" as a result and plays around with Brian May-ish harmonies, so if you like T-Square with solos that sound like Queen, then this might be your sort of thing!

In terms of source usage and that stuff - almost the entire track is using "Gusty Garden Galaxy" somewhere, so I'm 99% sure it hits a source check.

As for the remix crediting, this is a strange one. So, Blake Troise created an original piece of music quite a long time ago, but used a melody almost identical to "Gusty Garden Galaxy" in the chorus section at 0:57. I took that, and based the last iteration of the chorus theme and the ending on this track, treating it as variation to "Gusty Garden Galaxy". This was done with PROTO·DOME's knowledge and blessing, and I think it deserves co-credit for the remix, since it's an arrangement of his work. Special thanks to PROTO·DOME for helping me with the ending of the track! ENJOY!"

Could Yokota have riffed off "Omens of Love" and wound up with the "Gusty Garden Galaxy" melody for Mario Galaxy?? When you hear them both and compare... /nods head... alright, that sounds completely plausible! :-)

Whereas T-Square's squarely in the jazz fusion camp, WillRock's squarely in the "will rock!" camp, putting his ambitious, rocked-out stamp on this piece with a brilliant pairing of fusion synths and electric guitar that's full of contagious energy with an edge. The guitar soloing at 2:14 was so impressive over the top of the skeletal arranged version of "Gusty Garden Galaxy", followed by sweet synth vamping at 3:02 before the track crescendos at 3:26 with the quasi-"Gusty" PROTO·DOME quote and finally winds down at 3:47 with a satisfying extended synth + geetar conclusion. Judge Emunator's sarcastic underselling of this piece belied his uncontainable excitement over Will's return to form:

"Okay, fiiiiine. I guess it's *pretty great*. It's awesome to have you back, mate! I don't think we've seen a finer example of "truth in advertising" in OC ReMix history! Clickbait title aside, Will certainly has the chops to back up the bold comparison that his submission title invites, going toe-to-toe with the legendary jazz fusion group with a sumptuous array of retro synth keys, tasteful pitch bending, and a guitar tone that sits just right. The Gusty Garden melody is always present, but Will incorporates a ton of subtle flourishes, harmonies and modulations to keep things fresh. This is a fantastically detailed arrangement that absolutely invites, if not demands, repeat listens. Great to have you back in the fray!"

Hear, hear, brother, a huge "welcome back!" to Will, who's brought the goods here in a BIG way! WillRock can be content with the knowledge that people *will* be amazed, because this is a true treasure, loaded to the gills with galactic levels of fun!
