Liontamer's note: Very sad and tragic news to share regarding the January 29th DC plane crash: ReMixer DragonAvenger's sister-in-law and niece were among the 67 killed. If you're able to, please give to the Beyer family's GoFundMe. ANY amount sincerely helps.
Brielle, 12, was a talented, experienced figure skater as well as a cancer survivor. Justyna, 42, was extremely devoted to Brielle's Olympic aspirations. Friends of the Beyer family have set up this memorial GoFundMe for Justyna & Brielle to help with funeral expenses and future support for father Andy Beyer and little Kallen (DragonAvenger's brother & nephew and in-laws of OceansAndrew).
We share this previously submitted piece from OceansAndrew as a small but earnest memorial to these irreplaceable members of his extended family.
Please share this to anyone who may care -- word of mouth is extremely helpful.
Folks, please take care of each other. We're all we have.
Anytime I experience Genshin Impact's music, I'm struck by its infectious appeal and beauty, so this game's ALWAYS a good choice, and I was excited to hear another charming vision of Genshin Impact by the composer for the newly released Flowstone Saga, OceansAndrew! Having just shared another strong Genshin Impact medley, Andrew was in prime form to tackle two more treasured themes:
"This is a mix of few of my favorite songs from the Sumeru rainforest area, one of the most beautiful and scenic nations in a game filled with beautiful and scenic nations. :D
This is a combination of two themes I felt were similar enough to combine into a single song, with a few original bits sprinkled in. Sumeru is known as the nation of wisdom, and houses a large Akademiya that maintains a neural network known as the Akasha. I wanted to thematically combine the peaceful and natural sounds of the source songs with a bit of the technology aspect of the nation, so we've got a semi-synthwave song with acoustic and electric guitars, hammered harp, and more."
:32 brings in the "Moonlit Night in Sumeru" melody, and I was loving the subtle complexity of the original supporting instrumentation Andrew added here, which was fitting so well. It's a subtle thing, but I also loved his guitar ornamentation from 2:03-2:07; it sounds like he's having a great time and just adds to the joyousness of his vision here. Transition at 2:42 was kind of a dropoff, which moved into a nice handling of the "Moonlit Night in Sumeru" melody at 3:11 with the strings; very exotic!
OA could have called this "Spacious Beauty" if that hadn't already been taken, as this was (impactful yet) serene. ;-) He's only got the two Genshin ReMixes under his belt here so far, but these already make quite the case for Andrew to tackle a Genshin EP or even a full album! I sincerely could listen to his approach and styles all day long, much like judge prophetik music, who appreciated the seamless blend of organic & electronic:
"beautiful originals.
opening is a vibe. the addition of electronic elements to the super-acoustic start is a cool idea. beat comes in at 0:34 with the melody from Moonlit Night and is much more upbeat than the original. [...] there's a bit of a break at 1:38 and it feels kind of half-time here. the B section of Drowsy Sensation really works perfectly at 2:09 as a high point to the song under the groove you've got going at that point.
there's a big dropoff at 2:42 and we get some pad and organ work with the bass still keeping it moving forward a bit. the acoustic comes back in at 3:14 and it's similar in instrumentation to the intro section. there's a bit of a ritard and then it's done. this last section is about a third of the piece and may be a bit long when it's all done compared to the bigger body of the work.
overall this is a really fun track! it's got a great shape overall to it and flows well from theme to theme. i agree these originals really fit well together into a fantastic whole. i like your interpretation a lot. excellent work."
I was fully for the expanded winddown finish myself; it didn't feel overlong in any way, and the plucked strings were particularly engaging, a beautiful bookend with the beginning. With a structure and textures that are equal parts exuberant and contemplative, I heavily encourage you to loop this and sit in Andrew's delicate, carefully chosen instrumentation -- the dulcimer, the guitars (electric and acoustic), the beats and plentiful percussive accents, the pads, the bassline, the synths. When I first heard this, everything about this made me smile, yet in the context of recent family tragedy for Andrew's wife DragonAvenger, I cried. May her sister-in-law and niece's memories be a blessing. As a musical representation of saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth, the emotion profoundly jumps off the page, a truly touching and special piece by OceansAndrew.
