Arranging the music of one song...

PC gaming enthusiast Mike Norvak adds some heft and groove to the "Dark Halls" of Doom!
"I made this remix for my Redoomed album. I think this track or others from the album would really fit the Halloween season. I went with a Reduked (a previous album by myself) style for this remix while adding elements from darksynth and a base from midtempo. I also reused some of the original song Roland SC-55 sounds and other 90's sounds to keep the essence of Bobby's soundtrack while adding some retro-futurism to it. I hope you'll enjoy it!"
The moment you hear this relatively minimal theme, you quickly realize there's tons of room to get expansive and varied with its presentation, so my curiosity was piqued to hear what direction Mike took it in. Hell yeah, speeding it up was a nice touch, as well as taking it in an electronic direction; I'm down with this. And there it was at :30, some original countermelodic writing was added in, then started ramping up at :48. Yep, this is all a logical path to go down, so, I'm glad to hear Mike execute it so well, as was fellow judge prophetik music:
"i really like the rhythmic focus to the track. there's no way you were going to write some orchestral etude off of the limited melodic content of the original, so focusing on the rhythmic elements of it and translating them in various ways is a nice idea."
There was bigger stylistic shift at 1:27 that sounded cool, but as soon as I was worried that the source tune would get deprioritized, the stuttering pattern faded back in at 1:47 following the chord progression, then the theme itself quietly started again at 2:06 and then featured more prominently at 2:26. This is a really fun theme, so I liked getting constantly hit with new and creative textural variations, another fun feature among many shouted out by judge Chimpazilla:
"Yeah this is cool! The simple yet heavy drum pattern is perfect to accent lots of synth tomfoolery happening on top. Lots of interesting sounds and textures, squelchies and sfx. Arrangement is good, lots of dynamics and energy shifts. The mixing is good, mastering appropriate. Groovy mix, fun stuff!"
3:23 moved over into the effected vox sounds once again and was purely original composition, then the stuttering progression came back at 4:02 and the straightforward melody theme returned at 4:41 for the close. I just KNEW this would be good; Mike is awesome, a true DOS warrior with the skill to bump, thump, and expand upon even skeletal themes with the best of 'em!
