Argle returns with more Chrono Trigger for us all, and a reminder that it's never too late to put a little polish on an older project:

"I'm back! And this one is actually a new* song! An arrangement of the song "Peaceful Days" from Chrono Trigger.

*Technically, it is from Meat 'n Potatoes compo from 12 years ago. So, way too conservative to submit to OCR as-is, but at the time I thought the idea had some real merit to it and always wanted to rizz it up to submit here. But life gets in the way, and I guess if at first you don't succeed, wait a decade+ and try again. So, even though the general idea was really old, this was a complete teardown and redo as far as arrangement and mix goes. I took the original remix and put much more of a spin on it. This has been an idea in my head for well over a decade now and I finally got it done."

TWELVE YEARS is a heck of a long time to have something on the back burner, and we're grateful that Argle has taken the time to refine this one (I'm two years too old to say "rizz," haha) for all of us. Given the "Meat 'n Potatoes" origins of this piece, it comes as no surprise that this sounds like comfort food fresh off the stove. Judge prophetik music has the full breakdown for all of us:

"long-evolving opening pad - eventually it opens up and we get some other synths as well. melody comes in at 0:23 with some nice wind chimes. [...] what [the flute]'s doing is nice. as the chords move faster (at about 0:48) there's a bit of overlap in the backing pad. this is pretty conservative through the first minute.

we get a beat at 0:56 and a bunch of filtered elements that open over time, and some personalization of the melodic material near the end of this section. at 1:36 the mix feels like it's finally arrived - there's a snappy beat, the first bass instrument, and a more personalized melodic line.

2:10 goes right into the fourth repetition of the melodic line [...] still, what's here is nice, and i liked the measure in the middle where the backing elements drop. i also like the bagpipes that come in near the end of this section.

we get a subtractive version of the melodic line after this, in what is clearly some falling action. there's a bit of a settled last chord, and it's done."

I'll echo a couple judges' thoughts that our community has a number of flute players that would have jumped at the chance to play this solo here, but all the parts are in the right place for this one; you "can't really critique much of what's going on here," as XPRTNovice put it. This is a piece for a weekend with a blanket – enjoy wrapping yourself in a little Chrono Trigger, and bring a warm drink when you do.
