The wonderful, fluttering feeling of love is in the air once more, brought to us by two debuting ReMixers. :-) A.C. Menes & N. Fanning make their mark with a... lovely... bolero-style rendition of a Nobuo Uematsu favorite from FF4! Menes kept her comments brief and let the music do the talking:
"A Latin-inspired take on the "Theme of Love" from Final Fantasy IV. Features myself on guitar/bass guitar/percussion programming and N. Fanning on violin."
Awesome to finally see a submission from you, A.C.! It was great being part of Patrick Kulikowski's VGM panel with you at PAX many moons ago, and we're collectively thankful for donut recommending you slide this our way. :-) Menes also mentioned that trying this style was her guitar teacher's idea, so more power to 'em for the excellent suggestion! The nylon guitar strings were sounding lovely from moment one; indeed, the intro had panelist prophetik music hooked, with his first reaction being "ooh, the percussion and guitar right away is nice." And fellow judge Hemophiliac had a particular appreciation for the instrumental interplay:
"The stereo field is very wide on this, at the same time that keeps things very clean and separate.
I like the passing of the melody between the violin and guitar. That feels so appropriate for a theme of love. They are finishing each other's sentences in an elegant way, as if they are two people who have known each other for so long.
Great performance, very simple structure. Original intro leads us in and there's some embellishment on melody that anchors this in your own personalization."
I'm genuinely curious what imagery synesthetes would get from this earnest presentation; meanwhile, the music video for this shows off so many quaint sites in New Jersey, it's well worth your look! I like the energy of Menes' programmed percussion in particular to keep things energetic and have this arrangement approach stand apart from the original. And, of course, the guitar/violin synergy between Menes and Fanning worked exquisititely to personalize the presentation; a very fun treatment, and fingers crossed that A.C. dives into this kind of music again. Since Menes is also the music director for the New Jersey Gamer Symphony Orchestra, we hope we haven't heard the last of her submissions here, whether in a small group of musicians or a large one. We'd LOVE to feature her again one day! <3 ;-D
