Bio

The Prince, while being the playable character in Katamari Damacy, goes to the extremes of characterization. That is, he has almost none. Appearing mute throughout the game and receiving little screen time due to his very expressive father, The King of All Cosmos, The Prince is given the task of cleaning a rather large mess. The King, in a drunken stupor, accidentally destroyed all the stars in the sky one night, leaving his only son to find enough material on earth to rebuild the stars.

While this seems an impossible task to the 5-centimetre-tall Prince, he is given one very useful object to help him: the Katamari. This small, round item can attach itself to anything not larger than the ball of debris already attached to it. Therefore The Prince rolls it around to pick up any such thing not bolted to the ground. Pencils can lead to books, which lead to dogs, which lead to people, buildings and mountains. Indeed, after much collecting, The Prince can barely be seen rolling the ball. These balls of things can eventually replace the stars that were lost.

Katamari Damacy quickly grew a fan base in gaming circles that saw The Prince and his game as a breath of fresh air. Such is the basis for its sequel, We ♥ Katamari, where The Prince and The King attempt to satisfy requests from their newfound fans. The Prince has many cousins, which appear in the original but are also playable in the sequel's single player mode.
