The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Start your morning off RIGHT with an awesome new 'Gerudo' mix from Tepid! He writes:

"Well, it's been a while since I've submitting anything to this website, and frankly I feel bad about it. The past year or so I have been busy with college, and I was working on composing for my college band, and some original electronic stuff. In that period of time my style changed completely from balladic acoustic/organic stuff, to electronic.

This remix is in the style of dirty electro, inspired by French, Norwegian and Japanese electro artists such as J.U.S.T.I.C.E, Royksopp and capsule. I felt the site would enjoy something in this style, as I have not many remixes in this style, and it is a popular emerging genre in electronic music (alongside new wave). I had fun experimenting with crunchy clap samples, sidechaining, MIDI gating, and spatializing with stereo plug ins. Also, I have continued to play guitar in college, and was happy to add a guitar solo to the mix. I'm a little more confident with my guitar playing and tone in general. Anyway, I hope you like the remix. The source is pretty clear, and it's nothing like I've ever done before for OCReMix. Thanks and enjoy."

Tepid actually subbed this before his Reset Generation mix was posted, but the two are stylistically similar on some level, so if you dug that, you'll definitely dig this. The mix title is explained by the artist's influences, but I thought up some potential acronyms nonetheless:

  • Gorillas Enjoy Reading Uruguay's Daily Obituaries
  • Gamera Emits Radioactivity Using Dual Orifices
  • Gargantuan Enemas Require Unusual Determination... Obviously
  • GERUDO Encourages ReMixes Urging Dance Observation

I couldn't tell you for sure on the first three, but that last one happens to be true; check out our last mix of 'Gerudo,' from Diggi Dis, for reference. In contrast to that arrangement's hip-hop & Latin vibe, this is definitely electro, and dirty at that. Judges got caught up in source utilization, as the mix does go sans melody for bits, but there was consensus that Philip has again concocted a PHAT beat, fresh synths, and a bass that ties it all together. Andy writes:

"This is a pretty solid interpretation of French House with electro elements; having heard Tepid's progress over the years I'm impressed with how he's improved and branched out in genre. This is one he's particularly good at - the deep chords, unique addition of electric guitar, PHAT beats and gated synths are all awesome."

What he said; I liked the ambient tom fills added to the beat later in the game, and I thought the elec. guitar solo broke things up and played off the gated choral synth pad work like a champ. The bass really introduces & facilitates new melodic/harmonic ideas, and overall this is a take on a familiar source that switches it up and offers something new. Great, Enjoyable ReMix? Understatement: Downright Orgiastic. Great stuff from Tepid!

I have to say, I truly love those low claps and the dirty sound to this. The guitar soloing was a neat touch, and this has a groove to it that does remind me of some of Royksopp and J.U.S.T.I.C.E's stuff, more the former than the latter. Not too crazy about the ending, but it's not enough to turn me away from this ReMix. The little "aaah!"'s made me grin as well. Very cool.

What was this made with? It totally sounds like it could have been on the Street Fighter EX2 arcade soundtrack

I love how the intro cleans your ears out from all that garbage you've been listening to before the good shit starts.
Best mix on the site, easily.

This is awesome!
Very tasteful solo :D
I loved the unexpected chords and melody changes at 1:48 onwards.

I...I'm in love with this.
People who don't like electronic stuff might argue that unnatural sounds aren't pleasing to the ear. If this mix doesn't disprove that, nothing will.

Ridiculously fat low end; almost a little too fat for my taste. Guitar solo around 2:30 is somewhere between sexy and badass, i.e. completely awesome.
I agree about the ending being a bit weak, though.

I remember hearing a wip of this a long time ago.
Really good to see it here. It's totally sex.

I friggen LOVE the intro. Those pads are pretty great. Very reminiscent of bliss/henrik jose whom I adore. You lose me once that FM bass comes in though. It doesn't fit at all. The texture doesn't mesh with those super smooth chords, and it seems to be pretty much playing random notes. Once the main melody comes in again with the stuttered pads, it's all good again. The arps that come in later are a little over the top, but they mesh better with the FM bass than just the pads. Love the little tom fills.
And then there's the guitar solo w/ the sidechained pads, faaaaantastic.
Ending is a little weak though. But overall, pretty good stuff.

Tepid, this has some funk on it, and in a groovy yet techno flair. I'm reminded of the first time I played Flash Man's level with this, and given how popular that song is, then you must know that's a great thing! The guitar sounds fantastic, tempo and drums give this must-funkwalk-feeling, and I'm guessing synths(?) give a great air to I think are difficult notes to match just right. I would say this is the iGerudo for 2010, and it's highly worth downloading!

loved TRIX, so it's a pleasure to hear something a little more familiar (to me, at least :P) in a similar style. keep doing what you do. because it's awesome! :nicework:

Nice! The first thing that popped into my mind while listening to this was "NBA Jam meets Gerudo Valley". Agree with some earlier comments that some new life is breathed into this awesome track. Much more hoppin'!

no one cares that you're a snob please take your stupids elsewhere
tepid: welcome to the gerudo valley club! this mix is extremely stylish and surprisingly original

Loving this tune Tepid. It's definitely going in my OCRemix playlist. In fact, this makes me want to throw on my Hyrule t-shirt and go clubbin'! Nice job.

Yeah, that's a bad attitude. This version's already different than any other before it.
OPEN MINDS plz, not closed.

actually, that second option on the remix's page for what G.E.R.U.D.O. stands for (Gamera Emits Radioactivity Using Dual Orifices) is true as well. See? http://www.motifake.com/image/demotivational-poster/1001/giant-flying-turtle-gamera-flying-everything-demotivational-poster-1262667559.jpg He tucks in his legs and has two... um... exhaust ports or something.
We love you, Gamera!
