  1. About half a year ago, I finished working on "You were There", from the original ICO game. Someone I never even knew about, that happened to be really famous on the internet, requested me to play this particular song, so she could sing a duet with the singer I usually work with. It's a weird underlying story, but I am so glad that it all worked out this way. In case you are interested in the off-vocal arrangement, it is posted here: Although this is a completed song that I'm not going to change any time soon, you're free to comment and critique on it in any way you see fit!
  2. It's been a long while since I posted a game-related remix onto this forum. I run a band called Raven's Jig and I occasionally accept song requests. A while back, a friend of mine asked me to play . I've never actually played any Ico games, though I'm familiar with the original composer of this song (Michiru Oshima), because she also worked on (or contributed to) several of my other favourite series. Anyway, the instrumental Ico - You Were There arrangement is shown below. A vocal arrangement will be prepared at another time. Thanks for your time. General commentary is always welcome
  3. A good friend of mine has a band called Seventh Element. He produces "pony" music, and pony music accessories. He has played publicly at conventions several times before. I haven't played public ever, so the difference should be there. Anyway, I really enjoy collaborating with this person, both as friend and as a musician. A couple of weeks ago, we collaborated on a song called "Anything you can do, I can do better", aka "Better". It's interesting how different our arrangements have turned out to be. My band is called Raven's Jig, his band is called Seventh Element, see links below: Thanks for having a look. I don't really want to hear which one you prefer, though general commentary is always welcome.
  4. I've never owned this soundcard, but I've had rather bad experiences with a different asio-compatible USB soundcard (behringer uca202, I know it's cheap.. what was I thinking). So, error finding, isolating a cause Do you have another computer/laptop to test whether or not the soundcard is not defective? What about that USB B cable you're using, does it work with other gear? does the situation change if you switch it for an alternate cable? If you load kontakt with the asio drivers, but without the soundcard connected, what does it do? Besides the slow start, is it any different from usual operation? (e.g. does it respond at asio-like speeds?) It still sounds a lot like a driver issue, though.. It'd be great if you're able to try it on a different computer, maybe with a less modern operating system. An OS update can break compatibility with software, and discontinued products won't really receive software support anymore (damn you casio for not providing recent keyboard drivers!)
  5. It has been some time since I last put together a song from a video game. Today I'd like to present a song based on Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. You can check the link below to hear the original song (I placed it twice because youtube has no sense of perma linking). Ethnic instruments from all over the world are most enjoyable to learn about, I think. I'll readily admit that I've never visited any of the countries or even continents some of the instruments I play on keyboard are from, though that doesn't spoil the fun. I pondered quite a long time on the intro of this song; in the end I stuck to a LucasArts-styled one. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9Go-_veiHE Original: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/ravens-jig-a-feast-on-monkey-island Arrange: I appreciate any commentary, though just listening to it is fine by me!
  6. Our original plan at the beginning of this song was to create something featuring the typical feeling of Paris during its Romantic age (you know; accordion, french vocals, bit of piano). Somewhere along the line, I decided to turn it into a vocal piano song (I could not find accordion samples that made me happy). The lyrics have been written by us. They are about someone I know very well, or they are about someone you may know very well. The message we're trying to portray is that romantic love which we cherish so much, might be our second biggest source of sorrow. Why is it that we all crave for it? Based on the soundtrack from "Noir", originally composed by 梶浦由記 (Yuki Kajiura). Arrangement and lyrics by us. Based on: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-akhts-solitude-by-the Thank you for listening when you do!
  7. It has been some time since I last visited OCRemix; though today I'm looking for some musical advice. I recently acquired a sheetmusic book containing many of the songs heard in the film "Angels and Demons". One of the striking songs in it was 160bpm. It's an incredibly repetitive song with almost no room to place vocals. The repetitive element was solved by cycling through many different instruments and by trying not to use the same percussion sample too often. It turned out to be one of those songs where the percussion actually defines the feeling and the time within the song. I finally had the chance to use the anvil pack I had on my harddrive; I always wondered what it was supposed to be used for , now I know. Anyway, see links below for original and arrange Reference song: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/ravens-jig-angels-and-demons Thanks for listening if you do. I appreciate all commentary!
  8. Good day sirs and madams; today I wish to share a Touhou medley. I've been wanting to have my own medley for some time now. The medley borrows a lot of attributes from (freely available) work performed by Samidare ( http://www42.tok2.com/home/samidaremidi/ ). Melodies presented in this song are the themes of: Yakumo Chen, Cirno, Flandre Scarlet, Fujiwara no Mokou, Yagokoro Eirin, Kawashiro Nitori, Shameimaru Aya, Moriya Suwako, Kochiya Sanae, Alice Margatroid, Kana Anaberal, Remilia Scarlet, Saigyouji Yuyuko, Houraisan Kaguya, Shikieiki Yamazanadu, Yasaka Kanako and (lastly my favourite) Reiuji Utsuho. For reference that there was a lot of time put into this, take a look at this: http://www.majhost.com/gallery/redtails/oldest-4chan/pic84f.tmp.jpg . All work performed in Fruityloops. All songs originally composed by ZUN. Themes used for this medley: Chen: Cirno: Flan: Mokou: Eirin: Nitori: Aya: Suwako: Sanae: Alice: Kana: Remi: Yuyuko: Kaguya: Shikieiki: Kanako: Utsuho: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-touhou-medley Thank you kindly for listening, all commentary is welcome~
  9. Luckily I've had some time to arrange more songs. This time I'd like to report back with a traditional Irish folk song called "She Moved Through the Fair". Especially those living in Ireland and the British Isles in general will be quite pleased. Though, for this specific arrangement, my singer and I decided to translate the meaning (or our interpretation of it) of the song into French. The thing I can say is that many other (amateur) artists have already arranged this song for their own singer or for themselves. It's safe to say I had lots of examples to look at! All work done in fruityloops Reference song: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-akhts-she-moved-through Thank you kindly for listening, if you may do so! All commentary is welcome~
  10. Akhts was absent when I put this together. Well, more like busy with something else, at that moment. Thank you for listening to the song and giving your opinion. It's really as is XD; ice-cold vocals for an ice-cold game Also thank you for listening and taking the time to write that comment out! I feel entitled to use this much dynamic compression; following in the footsteps of many great orchestra/choir arrangers such as Morrigan and TsfH. I'll take your other points into account during a next track~
  11. Upon release date (11.11.11), I was totally overwhelmed by the beauty and freedom of The Elder Scrolls 5 - Skyrim. As always, Bethesda delivers with an astonishing theme song few games can even come close to. Older fans will instantly recognize its lineage as being an inherent Morrowind "Call of Magic" arrangement. Its vocal nature truly amazed me and I used much previously gained knowledge to create my very own vocal "Sons of Skyrim" arrangement. Many block chords and mastering further, it is finished. I may not have the budget to hire a choir, though I can at least pretend it's real. It was not my intention to make an "Overclocked Remix", this is merely my tribute to Skyrim's themesong. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S44YlJFh8Sw Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-skyrim All criticism or commentary is welcome~!
  12. While the past few songs I put together are largely unrelated to OcRemix's style, I'd like to inform those interested that we have arranged another song. Elfen Lied is a true anime classic. You will read much about its inherent deeper meaning; how it is supposed to make your question humanity, social alienation, your own identity and what it means to take revenge. To those who aren't really into anime, its music is both heart warming and soul crushing. As with many long-time popular songs; Lilium acquired quite a large following and numerous remixes. We can now say we have at least attempted to reproduce the song. Originality is something we are not very bothered with, as long as we have fun all should be all right. No voice-alterations and all additional work done in fruiyloops. "Lilium" was originally composed by 近藤由紀夫 (Yukio Kondo). Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QLP4DCcOZA Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-akhts-lilium We appreciate all commentary!
  13. It has been quite some time since I posted a message on the OverClocked Remix forum. Quite a while back I cooperated with a good friend to arrange a Russian version of 'Bratja' (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35797), a quite famous song for those who are into anime. With a new condensor microphone and hopefully more experience, we set out to redo the arrangement in French. From an amateur's point of view, we are very pleased with the end result. To the veteran arranger, it may sound very unrealistic or raw, though this is a mere hobby to me. No voice-alteration was performed, all work done in fruityloops. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC6FLjRTGxY Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/reiuyi-akhts-mon-fr-re We appreciate all kinds of commentary~!
  14. Yesterday was 9 september, which may not signify anything at all. For some, 9/9 (or ⑨/⑨) is like Cirno's unofficial birthday! Though after all these years, long-time Toho fans are probably getting a bit sick of the nineball memes. Especially those who were around during 9 september 2009. If I can be entirely honest, I don't agree Cirno is actually that stupid. She is intelligent enough to build a house (or igloo) and develop new techniques (see Fairy Wars). Anyway, more to the point; coming all the way from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Touhou 6), you will see hundreds of different Cirno arranges on the internet due to its relative long lifetime. Most of them try to capture an either childish, tomboyish, playful or cute sound in Beloved Tomboyish Daughter (more recently called Tomboyish Girl in Love). I tried to capture a totally different feeling, see links below~ Original: Arrange: http://soundcloud.com/ravensjig/ice-cold-cirno All commentary is welcome and very appreciated~, prefix is set to "Finished" though I'll gladly improve my arrange if I understand the suggestions
  15. thank you for criticism. Unfortunately, I don't arrange for OC-remix, it's just a hobby of mine~ the vocals were hard to tell apart, you're spot on, so I've asked a friend to help me include recorded vocals (see op) also, bump for announcing new link (see first post)
