  1. This sounds great, and it actually really retains Rare's style; I can imagine them using something like this if they ever remade DKC2 (although actually their style really reminds me of something from a film but I can't quite put my finger on it...).

Good call changing the pan flute to a chuirch organ, though you seem to have forgotten to change the section at the end.

Nice work, look forward to hearing the ending. :)

Actually, at the end, I left the pan flute there on purpose because I really liked how mellow it sounds with the pan flute there.

  2. Wow, dude. This sounds frickin' amazing. I'd offer constructive criticism, but I'm just stoked someone finally remixed this track. It's been a favorite of mine for years.

Great choice of instrumentation and theme. It sounds like it could be a track from Luigi's Mansion or something. :)

Wow, thanks. That means a lot. I'm stoked you liked this so much. Thanks :D

  3. This is great! WOW.

I LIKE the way you first play the source material in the middle of the track but then diverge toward the end.

    1. I can't wait to see you fix the flutey thing. Its not doing you ANY justice.

    2. Beware of the cutesy factor too. Overuse of triangles/and xylophones and stuff don't lend well to my idea of an orchestration, and it makes it difficult to play sometimes. I'm not a expert on the different instrument you can use but it's just feeling a bit too cutesy.

    3. Orchestra's don't fade out, bud. Try to think of a way to bring the "fight" to a climax and then resolve the fight.

    4. I agree the transitions are a bit too abrupt, I needed to use my volume knob a few times. Love the idea though.

    5. Is that a synth choir around 2mins? hmmm... never liked them, they strip the authenticity out. Try to remove MAJOR evidences of synthiness if you can, matey.

This track has definately started an interesting, exciting story... hope you can refine and finish it to make it truely compelling!

    DARN YOU!!!!! :P

I wish I would have ready this before I started working on the song again. I just got to working on it again and I'm saving.

As for the climaxes and whatnot. Not all songs will start of soft and just grow louder. There are many times where they get loud and then really soft again.I know. I've played in an orchestra before. As for the bells....hmm. To be honest, I actually like the tone in them and how they aid the melody in the quieter parts of the tune.

Hmm...let me listen over it again, I'll repost the song tomorrow and see what you think there. I have added a part in the middle.

  4. This is surprisingly enjoyable to listen to :-) You've definitely caught my attention. The derivative material that sandwiches in the source is really well written and flows nicely with the song - try to include more of that interpretation in the middle parts as well, where you basically hit the source verbatim.

Other than that, I wasn't a huge fan of the flute sound you used, and the transition from the intro to the first segment feels just a bit too loud and abrupt.

Work a bit more interpretation and rearrangement into it, pick a better flute sample, and you've got something submittable! Fantastic start! :-D

Hey, thanks. Yeah, I understand what you said about the flute. I did have a trumpet sound, but I really didn't like how it sounded, so I went with the pan flute which sounded a little bit better. Thank you very much for the compliment.

  5. Post the source, please?

It crackles in some places, try lowering the master volume a bit and up the bitrate to 192 kbps.

    Pretty good, arrangement-wise.

Really? I haven't heard any crackling on my end. I can try and lower the volume. Won't be easy though, with the way I have it set up XD

    But thanks for the compliment.

Oh, and I edited my previous post

  6. This is good stuff mostly, the sounds are nice together for that spacey kind of feel. I find it a bit repetitive in a way, not in how it is written but in the feeling of the song the way everything blends together, I expected certain elements to drop out in favour of something a little more simplistic or charming. The melody is nice and I felt it deserved a bit more room to showoff and perhaps expand but either way it is catchy. I also liked the bassline alot it was nice and dancey. But as I said in the feeling of the song the rhythm is pretty continious from start to finish, sometimes it's nice to change the rhythm up for variety. I can't really complain on that note because that's just a personal thing in my own writing. Good stuff keep up the work mate. That synth tht comes in at 0:54 is really nice! It should've got more show time ;) haha don't be scared to impress!

Yes, I see what you mean, but I intended it to have the repetitive feel mainly because a lot of the old video game songs had that repetitive feel to it. I do appreciate your compliment ^^

  7. I think you hit it on the head. It sounds like an old NES song or something. The production seems very fluid here. I like the whole chiptune tones you got going on here. I still can't fricken figure out how to get a sound like that!! Oh well...

Anyways, I'm liking some of the key changes (1:44 or so is a good example) and everythign seems fairly well balanced.

All in all, good song man.

Wow, thank you very much! This is the best comment I've had so far on anything. I'm trying to make my music sound better and better. I mean, I have posted my music remixes before in the remix part...and I think you've commented on one of them before. But thanks again!

  8. My two most favoritest Pokémon D/P/P ever!!! I quite liked this y'know. I think there was definitely enough variation from the source and the two tracks worked together really well. Cool ending.

Hrmm. I think there was a bit much reverb on the strings... And I wasn't a fan of the drums, I think I wanted something more prominent. I dunno, was there much in the low ranges? More bass. It needed more of a kickass bass part rather than working in simple crotchet beats.

Overall liked it. Mind you, I did kinda prefer the original Hearthome chords. Only because I'm a sucker for chord sequences with a decending chromatic note... ^^ (Like in 209)

    Oh and here's some source

    Hearthome:

    Route 209:

Oh yeah. Duh! I forgot about how you can practically find everything on youtube XD

But yeah, since I was going for a more orchestral feel, I wasn't intending for and kick basses and whatnot, but just a tympani and common snare. I do like bass for a lot of music, but, in my opinion of orchestral music, I don't want the bass too loud, otherwise it will swallow up the main melody and harmony of the music.

But anyway, I am glad you liked this piece. Thank you for your comments ^^

  9. you should post the source too. Don't know about anyone else, but I certainly don't know the pokemon music.

Your piece sounds quite good. Very good production quality and sounds like it could probably be right in there with the game.

I definitely have an appreciation for music like that, because honestly I don't think I could make it myself and what you have here is put together really well.

Thank you for your comment and taking the time to listen.

As for the source, I don't know where I can find one because when I made this, I was just listening to the music from the game over and over again, trying to pick out the right chords and stuff, even though it's not in the same key, but again, thank you. ^^

  10. Alright, this was actually a request for a friend of mine for his birthday since he really loves the Pokemon series. At first I was thinking of doing some kind of medley with Hearthome City, Route 209, Solaceon Town, and Route 210 in one, but scrapped the last two and just put the first two together into one song. So far, on another site, many have loved this piece and said they love this song more than most of the songs on the actual games. So I decided to put it up here for any feedback the OCRemix users can provide.

  11. Yeah, i agree with Rozo on this one. Its a nice melody driven track. I think the leads stand out mostly pretty well on their own. The drums could use a little more power in some sections.

I think then ending is alright, but when making remixes of video game tracks it can be hard to come up with an original ending to something written by someone else. Still though, the quick lead riff isn't too bad. Sometimes changing up the drum beat while still keeping the instruments flowing at a steady speed can solve that.

As for the production, it really isn't that bad. I think some EQ seperation, as Rozo mentioned, could do some good in this mix.

Yeah, one note about this is that I had no idea how to use the EQ when I made this. I just figured it out about a month and a half ago :P

Anyway, I'm going to get back to this song and begin using the EQ as well as editing the instruments and certain parts as well. Once I do, I will add the updated version into this thread.

  12. Aside from the drums - which are too weak even for a sweet melody-driven track like this - it's sounding pretty good. Mixing might need some work tho, some eq separation wouldn't hurt, and you might want to think of another ending, this just re-uses what you had earlier in the track, there used as a transition. Actually, the transitions are kind'a hard sometimes, you might want to soften those, make them blend together better.

    That's what I think.

Yeah, I'm still new to making remixes, so I need this kind of stuff to help me become better with my music. I appreciate your criticism. I'll have to see what I can do to make it sound better

  13. Dude, this sounds great. I love t he sounds you used in this song. I always loved this song from the series. Keep up the excellent work! :nicework:

  14. Hey, everyone. This is the first time I'm posting my work up here to gain comments and criticism for my works and I'd really appreciate what everyone has to say.

Right now, I am working on a remix of Jinjo Village from Banjo Tooie. Originally the song is in 4/4 time and I've decided to make the remix in 6/8 time as well as give it a somewhat of an orchestral feel. Please let me know what you guys think.
