Our repertoire for this season includes themes from The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger and more! As always, the event is free and family friendly. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. The GSO is the first collegiate-level ensemble to dedicate itself exclusively to the playing of music from video games. Once again, it’s time for the Gamer Symphony Orchestra at the University of Maryland to hold their spring concert! Comprised of about 120 members, including a 30 piece chorus, the GSO is the first collegiate-level ensemble to dedicate itself exclusively to playing the soundtracks of video games, both new and old, and using this music as an educational tool to draw in newer, younger audiences to orchestral concerts. We’re pretty much like Video Games Live!, except with fewer flashy lights and more college students. Our concert will take place on April 29th at 3 p.m. at the Kogod Courtyard at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., as part of “The Art of Video Games Exhibition.” The concert will be free and appropriate for all ages. You can expect to hear your favorite themes from “Kingdom Hearts”, “Sonic the Hedgehog”, “The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker” (which can be heard here on OCRemix: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02086/) and more! To get the museum, simply take either the red, green or yellow Metro line to Gallery Place-Chinatown. The museum is just outside the station exit. For more information about the ensemble, or to listen to recordings of previous concerts, visit our website at http://umd.gamersymphony.org. We look forward to seeing you at the concert!

It's that time of year again! The University of Maryland's Gamer Symphony Orchestra (GSO) will soon be holding its annual fall concert! As usual, we've got great things in store and plenty of brand new arrangements for your listening enjoyment, including themes from "Pokemon", "Kingdom Hearts" and "Shadow of the Colossus". For those who don't know, the GSO is an entirely student-run ensemble of more than 120 musicians, including a 30 piece chorus. We are the first collegiate level ensemble to draw our repertoire exclusively from the soundtracks of video games. The GSO seeks to establish video game music as a serious art form, as well as bring newer and younger audiences to orchestral performances. All of our music is arranged in-house, some of which can be heard here on OC Remix. The concert will be held on December 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Dekelboum Hall, Clarice Smith Center at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. We have a reputation of filling the the 1,170 seat concert hall, so be sure to get there early! Admission is free, though donations are recommended, and the concert is appropriate for all ages. We look forward to seeing you! Want more information or hear recordings of past concerts? The University of Maryland’s Gamer Symphony Orchestra, the country’s premiere collegiate ensemble dedicated to playing video game music, will preview its fifth anniversary concert with a performance on April 3. This sneak-peek will be held in the Dekelboum Concert Hall at the university’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The full spring concert will be in Dekelboum at 3 p.m. on May 7.
