  1. A slight departure (again) but...

Turns out my father in law has recently acquired a Yahama EZ AG to drive his synths. Apparently it's quite good, but doesn't pick up some of the intricate bits. I'm looking to borrow it at some point and use it in some mixes I'm working on.

I can't play keys very well, so using it for driving synths/vsts or as a quick fix to help notate scores etc could be quite helpful.

I'm planning on looking further into the realm of midi guitars in the next couple of months, so I'll come back and let you know how it goes. :-D

  2. It's on my personal to do list after a few other things.

Really want to do a version of Stupid Ducks myself, but eventually I'll hopefully get another 1 or 2 on top of that (maybe An Old Irish Song done folk metally?)

If you book them, they will come :-D

  3. I'm don't think Fishy got my email yet, so I'm going to post this here too: I'm not going to be able to complete my 'Secret Library Daguerreo' Track in time for the deadline, due to a big composing job that dropped into my lap this month. I'm sorry ;_;

So 'Secret Library Daguerreo' is officially OPEN.

Hope this doesn't mean you've decided to ditch it for general sub if you can't make it? Especially if you've got a WIP going on.

On my front, I fell asleep with an idea in my head for one of my tracks which I'm sorting out ASAP, Uni permitting.

Really psyched to hear everything when it's done!

  4. I might get round to doing a Jester's remix because I have to do another arrangement for uni before April anyway. I've got an idea for what I want to do with it.

I'll do a draft up and fire it to you asap, Fishy, and see what you think.

At the very least, I can submit it later generally if it's not quite up to scratch by crunch time

  5. No worries man.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm doing this for a Uni project too which has to be in around the same time as the deadline. The good news is that because of the type of project, I should have a couple of other tracks to submit while I'm at it.

..It also occurred to me that most of my last post should have been a PM.

  6. Awesome, deadlines make me work.

Fishy, sorry I haven't sent you a newer version of 'Sword of Doubt' for auditioning yet, I've been really backed up with my bands album.

I'll try and get it to you ASAP - at least before February. I'm hoping to have most of my current work finished by then.

    Thanks

    Ian

  7. Back when I was in college, my class took a trip down to Sounds Expo in London (I think it was 2007?).

Anyway, there was this guy doing a semi-spoken work set with this blues honky-tonk backing he was playing on his guitar. I think he was demoing the Roland gear actually, but he was telling this story about him going out into the woods and being attacked by badgers before being picked up by the rodent police (or something ridiculous to that effect).

Anyway, he was annotating his story with loads of samples that he'd set to trigger when he played certain things at certain points in his story. I remember it being really funny.

After the demo, I started speaking to him about it and, with it being a booth for the company, he had nothing but good things to say about it. But there was this other guy there too who was talking about latency issues with the pickup itself.

That being said, I don't know how effective it would be to actually play in realtime as a proper synth. I imagine for padding it shouldn't be much of an issue though.

  8. Hey man,

This is pretty cool. I'd agree with you about the bass - it may not be prominent in the mix, but it adds quite a cool character to whole vibe.

Sounds far better than the last version too!

I know my opinion means little, but this is pretty cool man. Keep it up 8)

edit: Why did I say cool that many times? That was a little silly...

  9. Hi guys,

Been lurking around here for about a month now after finding out about the place from Extra Credits on the Escapist. Outside of Powerglove and Megadriver, I wasn't sure there were many places to find alternative arrangements of VG music on the net - I was wrong lol

In any case, I've been doing my own half-arsed attempts at arrangements of VG music for about 2 years now (nothing finished really, but still really entertaining) and figured that if I signed up here and tried a little harder I'd get some stuff completed and contribute to the cause and learn some things along the way.

Hoping to get in on the FFIX project too, so I'm gonna work away on that. In other arrangements, the vast majority will probably be sourced from RPGs.

    Thanks for having me! icon7.gif
