Q: Why are you doing this?
A: I'm a big Isaac fan, I love to make games, I'm also doing this as part of the OneGameAMonth permanent game jam.
Q: What do I have to gain?
A: Fame, obviously! Jokes aside, the game is free and so is the soundtrack so there's no cash incentive. That said, if you love the game - or just to do kick-ass music, I think that motivation can be enough.
Q: Will there be an album of all tracks released afterwards?
A: I'd love to. I'll keep in touch with all artists - the more, the more difficult it will be to get everyone's permission, but having something up on bandcamp as a free download is something I'd love to do.
Q: I'm interested! Where do I go from here?
A: The easiest way to get to me is via Twitter. We can talk more by e-mail afterwards if needed. When you start working on a theme, please notify me so I can 'reserve the slot' in the Google doc.
Q: I'd like to do a track but there's part of the instrumentation I can't do. What do?
A: ocremix forums seem like a lovely place to recruit people for collab. Another possibility is to ask me on Twitter and I can put you in contact with other artists from the soundtrack (we have mostly guitarists and pianists, a few orchestral game music arrangers). Collabs are encouraged! Go crazy!
Q: I've finished a track! How do I submit it?
A: first off, you're encouraged to upload it somewhere public (YouTube/Bandcamp, heck, even submit it on ocremix if you feel it stands a chance). Then, send me a link to a lossless version of the track - WAV or FLAC is fine. I'll re-encode it as OGG Q9 (320kbps) myself, tag it properly (track name, author, album, and original composer), and add it to the game.
Q: Is that just a big plot to get us to work for free? Where will my work end up?
A: Nope. I'm slaving away myself to get as much of the original game in there as possible. All the game's source code, art, and music is available on GitHub under open-source/free licenses.
Q: Will I get credited for my work?
A: Of course! Every cover artist will be quoted in the game's credits, and additionally I'm thinking of doing an in-game notification that would show the track's title, artists, and original composer, a-la EA Traxx (e.g. Need for Speed).
Q: Is there a deadline?
A: Yes and no. I'll submit the game to OneGameAMonth on March 31, so everything done before that date will be part of 1.0. However I'll keep working on the game, so if you can't make the deadline, it's all good - you can always get in later.
Q: How close is the game to the original?
A: Pretty close. I'm trying to get all the content from the original + Wrath Of The Lamb extension. However, that's an inordinate amount of work, so I can't guarantee the March 31 release will contain everything.
Q: Does your version bring anything new?
A: While I'm mostly concentrated on recreating the original, I might add a few different things. New items named after famous Binding of Isaac casters (Wolv21, LookAtMyChicken, CobaltStreak, etc.), small references. Making promises is the best way to break them though, so I can't guarantee anything!
Q: What platforms will the game support?
A: It runs fine on OSX, Windows, and Linux, so expect all three!
