Arranging the music of one song...
"Bloody Tears (Street-day time-Stage BGM)"
Primary Game: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (Konami , 1988, NES), music by Kenichi Matsubara, Satoe TerashimaPosted 2001-05-30, evaluated by djpretzel
Oh poppa, r u gonna luv this one ^^ What was already a fantastic track originally (Bloody Tears) has been taken to new heights by Kaijin AND Ailsean - each masters of the ReMix trade in their own right. This is sort of like 'Clash of the TItans' only in this case the Titans are helpin' each other make a kickass CV ReMix. This also pisses me off because I've been wanting to mix something from CV for along time myself and this ups the ante considerably, imo :) What we got, listeners, is a jaw-dropping rock'n'roll fest, with mighty Ailsean lending some crunchy lead guitar to Kaijin's immaculate accompaniment. A perfect collaboration, as each ReMixer's strengths are optimized to the utmost to bring friggin' fantastical ear candy straight to your noggin'. This ain't your momma's Castlevania ReMix ^^ So in case you can't tell, I consider this an ABSOLUTE must-have for all listeners, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, sexual preference, or opinion of the film 'Goonies'. Magic 8 Ball says: You will download it. From the phaser on da guitar at one point to the smokin' drum track, what else can I say but: quality.

This is from 2001?! Uh, alright then. This was actually one of the more memorable tracks that I listened to from OCR when I was a kid.

This is from 2001...? Really?
Great remix. The guitar sounds great, The synths in the background back it up well, and the drums and the second guitar keep the beat. The only thing that I could pick out was some panning with the drums could have been done without (listen for the crash answer/response from right to left). Very small. Great metal remix from you guys.

This totally sounds like something straight out of an over-the-top ludicrous and awesome power metal band like Edguy or Hammerfall or Angra's earlier stuff. Dig it, as I was an avid power metaller back when I was a (younger) chap, and would listen whilst creating far too much mayhem in the far too conservative reaches of my homelands. This would've fit into the rule-breaking ("Don't spank us too hard!") playlist very nicely, with the rich harmonies and powerful chords, choir/pad breaks, running synth lines, and ultra-high guitar leads and harmonixx. The only thing missing is some machine gun drums, but I don't think those were invented till like 2009 or something right?

In addition to everything said so far, I would like to point out how I really like how the remixes of "Bloody Tears" seem to ascend in urgency: Alexander Prievert's probably being the least-urgent, and DigiE's "Castle of Tears" having a "the curse is about to kill me...hurry up!!!" kind of feel to it. This would be middle of the road for me, in terms of "urgency". I like the choir at the end...it sounds like the familiar "horrible night to have a curse" is about to fall.

Pretty good stuff, considering the age, it's exceptional. There's a reason that several of the old school guys have such a monster reputation, and tracks like this reinforce the notion. Great stuff.

Downloaded this long ago, still love it to this day. The gothic backgrounds stays to to CV series, while the guitar kicks seven different types of ass.
Awesome stuff here by Ailsean and Kaijin.

Honestly the best CV remix I've yet heard. Blew me away when I found this -- screams on a good sound system.

This one is awesome as hell, just for being used in that local car commercial.
What? I have to see this!
And this remix is still great for being as old as it is. I really like the style of it. Reminds me of a high-production doujin arrange.

This one is awesome as hell, just for being used in that local car commercial. The intro totally has that feel. ("OH SHIT, U GO FAST IN THIS PENIS CAR, NO MONEY DOWN!)
For its age, this one actually holds up pretty well, way better than I remember it, as I was only big on the intro back in the day. The phasing synth in the middle handling the melody could have been more graceful in terms of the sequencing, but was a great concept. Pretty nice stuff that was very interpretive and creative.

I don't like the Castlevania games...but I love their soundtrack, and this remix is awesome!!!

A. This is pure awesome. I love the work of both Ailsean and Kaijin. Nice job.
B. I was simultaneously listening to this and browsing the internet. I happened to be on the OneUp Studios forums. While reading one of Mustin's comments, I couldn't help but pay closer attention to his signature image than I usually do. Wait until about 12 seconds in and then look at this image:

You should do something with that on this forum too Mustin.

You know, people only do rock covers of Castlevania songs when remixing. But you guys did it right! This remix is badass!

This rocks hard, plain and simple. Something you can bang your head to, but not break your neck. It just really rocks. CV music tends to go well with rock and this is no exception.
And for the previous post, this remix was based off a NES game, which would be pretty tough to pull of rockingness on the NES (but there may have been a few "rocking out" songs on the NES. Somebody mentioned Marble Madness - Level 2 I think once). They just seem to translated to hard rock/metal/whatever it's called so well, that is why there are so many remixes in that style at OCR, from goat (powergoat.com), Megadriver (megadriver.com.br), Minibosses (minbosses.com), and Konami themselves (check out http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania and go to the multimedia page).

Rock'n roll! yeah, sure, the guitar is perfect, but... hey, I've never played Castlevania (i know, i know, shame on me) but the soundtrack must be rock all the way, aint it?
