Serious Monkey Business? Not quite... this is 'Serious Moon Business,' an electronica Majora's Mask collab between halc and his newcomer friend Bryan, aka Insixfour. Mr. Wheeler writes:
"This remix took a really long time to finish. Bryan is another good IRL friend of mine who I proposed a collaboration with after hitting a roadblock early on in the writing process. We were able to lay a lot of groundwork for the track, but it ended up stagnating on my hard drive for months. Eventually we picked it back up again (at his insistence) and blew through the rest in a night. Props to him for keeping the ball rolling on this one :D"
Bryan concisely adds:
"I'm glad it's done."
Sounds pretty cathartic and/or traumatizing, but you'd never know it from the finished mix ;) I'm not sure exactly who did what, but it certainly sounds cohesive and more or less "in the style of" halc's other mixes. Perhaps a little less chippy; though there's still plenty of that, and drums are hissy-crackly-crunchy, too. There's also nice bell pads, a smoother synth lead, HUGE auxiliary bass synth that gets some cameos, and warmer/mellower textures in general, along with the now-expected exquisite attention to detail and appreciated syncopation on the beats, in particular.
I love the original song; this is our first arrangement of it, it proves that Majora definitely needed more attention, and I think the ReMixers truly honored it. The melody actually reminds me a little of Socket, a subpar Sonic clone with a great soundtrack that I personally love. It's a festive tune with a lot of nice twists and turns, a very approachable temperament, and a sugary sweetness that almost makes it sound like another holiday/ice stage mix. I can't speak to the specifics of their cooperation - perhaps either artist can chime in - but this is definitely a mutually-beneficial collaboration that resulted in a very fun, upbeat mix. Love the source, love the vibe.

Ah, now this is nice and peaceful, with a little chip here and some beautiful melody there. I can really use this to chill out and study. Unbelievably solid and this is a great debut for insixfour and another win for halc.

Chippy and crunchy, but not as chippy and crunchy as usual, which, I assume, is Insixfour's influence. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Very enjoyable tune.

So I finally have a chance to get on here and check out the post! Thanks to all of you for the very positive feedback. I am certainly overjoyed and I'm sure that halc is stoked. It has been a long time coming hanging out with halc and chtonic, and it was only a matter of time before I got into this. Wish I could say more but internet is limited! Three cheers and you all just wait I have great things to show your ears haha

Really nice feel to this one; I love the serene melody and calm and relaxed feeling. Very beautiful stuff, guys.

Wow.. really awesome to finally see this on the front page. Brilliant work guys, I was hooked from the first rendition that made its way into the workshop and have been following on from there.
This is one AAA remix for a AAA source tune! Keep up the fabulous work.

thanks for the comments everyone! we're both very humbled by all your kind words
regarding our roles in the production of this mix..
i had come up with the first :55 or so (save for the bass parts which were mostly Bry's doing) when i proposed the collab. from there it's still mostly my arrangement until 2:15, with Bry adding some of his own touches on top. he came up with the changeup from 2:15-2:48, and I slapped on the ending.
not a super-involved collab, but look out for our marble zone mix on the Sonic 1 album, which is quite the opposite (in that it's mostly his arrangement with some halc sprinkled on top ), and probably a better demonstration of his personal style and skillz.
Too bad there's no item called "Moon Key" in the game, huh?
i see what you did there. clever.

COOL.
Heh, this feels like a prelude to Threshold; all that mellow vibe is here mixed with some light airiness. Really nice work from both Halc and Insixfour, and an awesome debut for Insixfour too.

I've tried and failed so many times to remix this tune. Each time I tried, it just didn't match up to the original. I can't figure out what I like so much about the original...
this one...also doesn't match up with the original --it changed that mysterious vibe thing I liked in the original.
However, I must embrace the changes here: This is AWESOME.
thank you for remixing this theme. so much.

I remember hearing this on the WIP boards. Really nice half-debut track; everything works together beautifully. It's relaxing and doesn't intrude too much if you listen to it as background music, but it's also intricate enough to keep your interest on its own.

Hahaha, love the title here You guys really did a good job of bringing out the melody from the original and doing a lot of expansive work on it without ever losing sight of what you were remixing. The glitchy breakdown at the end rocks too
Grats to Bryan/Kater/Insixfour on your debut mix, and grats to Drew on another one for the books!!

Pleasant, happy and chill. Nice work!
Too bad there's no item called "Moon Key" in the game, huh?

When I think of Majora's Mask, I think of the observatory theme. Remember listening the heck out of this back on teh WIP forum. As always great stuff, great great stuff.
Oh P.S. halc, like the eventual title choice. ;D
