I drink YOUR dubstep!!!
Anti-Syne contributed this completely over-the-top, spastic, gut-punching, face-melting electronic assault & battery of sound to the second open competition that was held for Balance and Ruin, and he clearly held nothing back. zircon writes:
"This remix is not for the faint of heart! It's all over the place in a *good* way, with just the right amount of tasteful chopping, mangling, and distortion. "Metamorphosis" is a very difficult source due to its harmonic complexity and dissonance, so I'm glad Anti-Syne stepped up to the plate and nailed it. Veterans like Beatdrop & tefnek would be proud."
So yes, if the mix title didn't give it away, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with heart conditions or congenital dubstepaphobia should potentially refrain from use. It might not be pure or traditional dubstep, but the influence is there, and the general presiding aesthetic is completely electri-fried; if you smell something burning, it's probably you. The artist writes:
"'Metamorphosis' has always been one of my favourite tracks from FF6, so to be given the chance to remix this track was a challenge I relished. I didn't feel I needed to change the foundations of the original in order to complete my remix. I kept the big hitting drums and overall feel, but changed the orchestral instrumentation to blasts of crafted, chaotic, glitched up, electronic noise."
Indeed he did! Love that Speak & Spell style mix title recitation (echoes of his Parappa mix), which isn't the only bit of synthesized speech - by a longshot. I'm a big fan of SYTYCD, in large part because they emphasize a respect for multiple styles of dance the same way I'd like to think OCR encourages musical diversity. They've had some sick poppers & animators on lately, and DAMN would it be awesome to see Cyrus or Blueprint do a routine to this mix; it screams "malfunctioning robot" in a way they could really bring to life through movement. I'm ALSO a big fan of Jack's more retro/throwback Final Fantasy VII ReMix we posted last year; been listening to that a lot lately, and while both mixes are electronic, this piece is so very different that it's cool to just sit back and appreciate the variety possible within the umbrella of electronic music. Aggressive, rude, punctuated, and unforgiving, Jack's contribution to Balance and Ruin is perhaps its most brazen inclusion, but I love it all the more because of that.

One of my favorites off of the album. It's full of power and the promise of blood.

what a power in this mix! The source wasn't the easiest track to adapt. Great job

God, it's just not an Anti-syne song without awesome electrovoices in it, and it's always a thing of beauty. I feel it is a touch repetitive, but the soundscape is gold, and it really pounds the hell out of my eardrums (in a good way). Glitchy and awesome, just the way I like it.

Nothing like a musical smack in the face with raw power. I totally dig those electronic voices throughout the mix and the varying degrees of aggression going on along with the glitches. All I can say is damn, Anti-Syne, you didn't just nail this one, you sent the nail flying out the other side of the board.

That track source is soooo good, I NEVER had any problem waiting for Shadow at the end of the island with that song playing out !!!

Well, alright then. Pretty slammin' stuff. I wouldn't say I love it, but it's still pretty awesome in its own right.

Like a wraith slamming into your face and flipping over your stuff. Man... just scary. ^-^

This is one of those tracks I'm going to have to listen to several times before I figure out if I like it or love it. It's certainly the most different take on this track I've ever heard or would even have thought up.
