The brush work ALONE on this jazz joint from Chronology: A Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger makes me cry, but then of course you've got piano & dual saxes & bass, coming together for an upbeat tribute that works in some sweet soloing & moves from mellow to energetic quite gracefully. Credits:
- Markus B. (Nostalvania) - arrangement, piano
- Joe Zieja (XPRTNovice) - soprano saxophone
- Anthony Lofton - tenor saxophone
- Jay Yaskin (audio fidelity) - bass
- Dylan Wiest (Wiesty) - drums
Arranger & pianist Nostalvania writes:
"What I found interesting about this source is that it changes between 5/8 and 6/8 time. My idea was to actually invert it, so everything that was 5/8 before is now in 6/8 and vice versa, which sounds pretty nice as well, if you ask me. I also added some original writing and reharmonisations, as well as a 24-bar chord progression for the solo section."
Gario's a fan:
"Smooth and sexy jazz, right here, from a smooth and sexy album."
Well.... yeah. What he said. Smart writing from Markus which plays with time (it is *Chrono* Trigger, after all!) and carves out space for some delicious soloing while remaining on point & recognizable. Every single track on Chronology is a masterpiece, in my book, and this one's no exception; piano and sax take the spotlight but the detail & nuance in Dylan's drum work & Jay's bass ensure that every last component is dynamic, vibrant, and full of life & character. Great stuff, highly recommended!

Tough call here - I love the source material, but the style is not particularly my favorite and it doesn't (for me) seem that the source material plays that nicely with the remix. That said, I can tell the effort and quality put in here. Jazz fans should definitely enjoy.
