Rebecca E. Tripp shares a wonderful, intimate, sweet classical arrangement of Link's Awakening, and the thought process behind it:
"This is an extended, upgraded arrangement of the "Mabe Village" and "House by the Bay" movements in my "Link's Awakening Epic Orchestral Medley."
Overall, I wanted this piece to sound very sweet, joyful and laid-back, but every now and then there's a “still," surreal moment, where the lines between dreams and reality grow hazy. Perhaps these moments are a little bit unsettling for some -- then again, perhaps they are a beautiful reminder of our own infinitely mysterious existence. Of our own precarious understanding of the lines distinguishing reality from illusion. This is a concept I personally find very reassuring; like Link, many of us have fought one or two battles (metaphorical or otherwise) within our lifetimes. Sometimes, the more "dungeons" we've endured, the more alluring the idea of an illusory existence becomes. Thus, this is also kind of a song about "escapism," which is is why I go back and forth between boisterous and delicate iterations of the melody. At times we are "fully" immersed within the village. At other times, we are viewing it from a distance."
A beautiful mix of strings, bells, harp, & woodwinds - omitting brass and percussion - makes for a dreamlike soundscape. I'm reminded of some of the best music from children's programs, actually, most notably the original Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which to me is a huge compliment. The tempo varies and picks up a bit, but mostly this is a mellow, peaceful affair. It's mixed a little low, so you might want to boost the volume a tad, but otherwise it's an inviting, comforting, & completely agreeable arrangement that has the musical effect of cuddling up by a fire on a cold winter night. Great work!
