Happy National Arbor Day!
To celebrate the 150th U.S. anniversary of this tree-planting holiday, we've got a trio of tree-topping treats ALL arranging Chrono Trigger's endearing classic, "Secret of the Forest"! We begin with a serene, atmospheric blend of winds, chromatic percussion, harp, & nature FX as RebeccaETripp collaborates with some talented woodwind players:
"This was my contribution to the GameGrooves album Heartwood. For this project, several musicians came together to support the Rainforest Trust charity with forest-themed VGM. Each track was for a different game. I chose to do the Chrono Trigger one. You can download the album here: https://smarturl.it/ggheartwood. I think the whole thing is very lovely!
Most of the winds on this track were performed by Gamer of the Winds and Bassoonify! Please check out their amazing works!"
The arrangement itself sets a vibe & essentially sticks with it, inviting listeners into a sonic grove that's bustling with birds, bees, and, well.... bassoon :) Plenty of flute & harp as well, and various bells, all for a woodsy/mystical aesthetic that'll have you thinking you're in Lothlórien. I do get more of a passive, peaceful mojo from this than the titular joy, but it's enchanting all the same. Live performances on winds lend an organic & more emotive presence to the arrangement, which drifts in like an ephemeral daydream, and out likewise. Great stuff from Rebecca, Gregory, & Michael - enjoy, check out the full Heartwood album for more, and remember to respect the Ents!

Trees are legit. Every time I stumble on a gem like this with no comments, (I know the youtube video has some, but I am being dramatic) it feels like I stumbled onto a hidden oasis of musical goodness. That's an apt description of this remix, a hidden forest oasis of musical goodness. :)
