ReMix:Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time "Big Apple Bass" 2:09

LXE's funky featured Turtles in Time ReMix has a unique approach that'll slap you silly! According to the ReMixer, this trip to NYC's short, sweet, and jaunty:

"I arranged this to be a super-minimal, stripped-down version of the tune that I thought might be heard at a some jazz club or cocktail bar in the wee hours of the morning. The bass is definitely the star here, walking all over the place and providing percussion, but the vibraphone helps fill in the harmony and give a contrasting timbre to the bass. Hope you dig it."

Oh, we can dig it, now can you dig THAT? :-) LXE's stripped-down sound is a major contrast from the SNES original, but the finesse of the bass, percussion, and vibes easily win the day. Judge Chimpazilla, won over with metaphorical classy drink in hand, fancied herself a patron of the arts during her listening experience:

"That source tune with the 90s brass stabs! The remix does dive right in. Bass sounds great to me, as does the vibraphone. The bass is walking all over me. The balancing and mixing are fine, the master is sort of loud for this style but it's completely clean. I love this, minimal and cool! Waitress, I need another cocktail please. No, I haven't had too many already."

Judge Emunator, already impressed by LXE's past OCR contributions, seemed to enjoy this one almost as much as an authentic New York slice:

"Yeah, this one wastes no time getting into it, but these sort of experimental tracks have consistently been my favorite LXE pieces. Much like Koopalings or Raga Koopa, you set out on a mission and managed to achieve it without a lot of extra frills, and the underlying musicianship pulls it through. [...] The bass is, as you said, the star of the show, and shine it certainly does!"

Using slaps to the body of the bass as the percussion is pretty damn "cowabunga" if you ask me, and the overall novelty of the instrumentation helps the brief piece quickly make an impression and distinguish itself from the original music. What a fun, novel approach to a legendary theme by LXE!
