Well, see...Mario/Dr Mario I can't really see any difference between them, which is why I left them out.And you guys left out Dr. Mario & Roy, both of which are about as good as there originals, Mario & Marth. Then there's Falco, who's pretty much a slower Fox from the first game.Roy is better than Marth, I have found...the AI like to gang up on you and jump all over you. Since Roy does more damage at close quarters this is good for you. Not to mention his uppercut does 5 or 6 strikes whereas Marth's does the one. I play as Marth when I go against my friend Rob, though...he has a habit of picking someone like Mario, hiding at the back and just hurling fireballs around. Marth countering the fireballs means you're more likely to get someone with the very tip of the blade, which does more damage than closer to the hilt.
I find it to be quite the opposite...Link and Samus have long winded throw moves that you can't break out of. If they miss then you're stood there for a couple of seconds completely unable to defend yourself. Almost everyone else (with the exeption of young link) just lunges and if they miss it's no big deal. That really depends on the character. With a character like Link or Samus that can grab from a range, I find it very useful.I suppose I need to work on my timing with link/samus to get their catches to work properly. Or make the AI stand still. Either works.
I figure I'd best get more specific...Luigi is, pretty much, a second Mario clone. His fireball move is different, but not particularly useful. I use fireballs/megavitamins to attack long range ground-based targets, which luigi has a habit of missing.Luigi's...just a tool and I hate him.Not gunna try to argue with you on that one. I pretty much hate him too... but I've met people who can use him quite well.
His Left/Right+B move has a chance of killing him in several levels. You know how he normally just flies slowly across the screen...when he explodes and goes flying, he'll often KO himself at the same time. Handy when you're against him (especially when you're fighting the metal brothers in single player mode) but not if you're playing as him.

I wouldn't boast the wonders of Rest...you have to be inside your enemy for it to have an effect and if it misses (which it almost invariably does) it leaves her open for getting KO'd (which, let's be honest, you could do by giving her a slightly suspicious glare)Jigglypuff has stronger attacks (a la one-hit-kill sleep attack)Young Link is damn fast and his spin attack pulls you in for extra damage. Link's spin attack pushes you away.
Gannon is slightly more powerful and a lot heavier (which effects how far you can be thrown and how fast you fall).
Luigi is taller and slightly more powerful.
Young Link's additional speed isn't really handy unless you're playing keep-away...though considering it's an open warfare game I can't see why you would.
I don't throw characters given how ineffective it is. It's much better to do attacks that do more damage. Like anything but a throw. Ganon does do more damage, but considering you can go and get a sammich between the time he starts an attack and the time he does it, that's not so hot.
Luigi's...just a tool and I hate him.
Another example, Pichu. Did we really need a worse version of Pikachu? I could understand if Pichu dealt more damage with the more damage he took (kinda like ABA from guilty gear) but...he doesnt. He's just a self-destructive poor second choice for self-imposed "No clone" rules.
Is...that even possible? It's fun to be Pichu and actually do really well. -
I'm all for Roy. Him or Mr.Game&Watch.
Something I never really got about the game is how the unlockable characters are often worse than the characters they're clones of. Jigglypuff is Kirby only without the moves that make Kirby worth having in the game, Young Link is Link without the reach, Ganon is Cap'n Falcon only even slower and clunkier and Luigi...well, I just don't like Luigi. And neither should you.

Y'know, as much as some people complain about it I don't mind the use of music the film.
I felt really happy when the main theme/hometown blasted through the surround speakers...I hadn't heard it played like that since Chris rigged his PS1 up to the projector and we played SH1 on the big screen. I also thought it was pretty badass when Tears of pain came through at the end.
The only problem I had with it...is how I kept hearing "I'm looking for mama" and such during the film. or maybe that was my desperate need to substitute actual speech in for "Mew!" "Mew!" "Meow!" "Mrow!"

So as I watched it...I'm sorry to say, but I spotted two continuity errors. For shame!
SPOILZ!Cybil loads her gun when she locks herself in that room with Rose. Now that would give her 9 rounds of ammo (10 if you follow game physics) She only fires 3 (2 at Pyramid head, 1 into the air at the church)...but she's run out by the time she reaches Brookhaven. She didn't have chance or reason to fire 6/7 times between then and the hospital.
Also, there's a tombstone in the graveyard outside the church that changes position. It says "John Grisham" (an actual author) and it's near the steps facing the camera when you see all the people in the cult running up the stairs...and it's also at the back of the graveyard facing the camera when you get the long shot of the front of the church. I like to think it's a jab at crappy JPEG technology from old 3D games...'cause...y'know, Gans is infallible in every way.
Not continuity errors but spoilers anyway...
I didn't like how Midwich looked like a house on the inside. I dunno, maybe some American schools do that (I've never been in one outside of video games so I can't say I'd know) but the general look of it was "Wrecked house" rather than "Wrecked school".
I wasn't too keen on how the topography of the town kept changing, either. Like...maybe it's just me, but I don't remember there being a Grand Hotel in the town. And was there really any need to make Brookhaven a six floor building? It only has three and the film only used two of them anyway.
So yeah, a lot of the gripes that I have are stuff that only hardcore fanatics like myself would gripe about.
I DID like how it showed how the various characters solved the same puzzles in different ways. Rose clambers her way across wreckage and debris, Cybil finds a rope and uses that. I liked that.
-
That's because it was. The first draft of the script had an all-female cast. Only by tacking on Bean's section could it get the go ahead.the Sean Bean plot feels tacked on... -
I dunno about people clapping when Pyramid Head first appeared, but that bit when he did that thing to that woman...that mustered a "FUCK YEAH!" from the audience.
My favourite part of the film was all of it.
My least favourite part of the film was when I had to stay behind at the end and explain to the guy next to me what he'd just seen. That was not fun.
I'm not entirely sure why Danna got credited for doing the music. As far as I could tell all of the music was ripped from SH 2, 3 and 4. Though some of it had a music box playing over the top...maybe that's what Danna did. Who knows?
I don't like how the film took the various liberties with what had already happened in the games...
SPOILERSFor example, I didn't like how they burned Alessa because they thought she was a witch rather than because they needed an empty vessel for Samael.
I also don't like what happened to Lisa. I can kindasorta see why it would happen, but I really didn't like it. 'cause...y'know, Lisa's lovely and it doesn't fit in with the game.
-
y'know, I have to say I was disappointed with the theme park in SH3. You could see the edge of the boards...that reeks of laziness.
-
You make it sound like YOU won the various awards...
-
It's a trap!
They set it up so it's all wrong so that hardcore fans like yourself pay them to let you put it right.

Just like the Mario film was appreciated for its being a Mario film, am i rite
Or you know, success could depend on the quality of filmmaking combined with the fact that the world is actually getting a movie based on the Silent Hill games.Realizing this, I understand now what will make or break the success of the film's story, which when considered seems fairly obvious: the role of the Red Pyramid in the film. -
You meet pyramid head 9 times throughout the game. Only two of these instances have more than one PH in the same place at the same time (the hotel and the bottom of the labyrinth).
As for the names...the name in the strategy guide is Red Pyramid Thing. In the DVD that came with the game it's called Triangle Headed Monster.

In the game I'm working on there are three Silent Hill references currently...one of 'em is on that page. There's also a painting titled The Silent Hill and there's a skeleton with 21121 on his head.
Hooray!

You mean like this one?*cough* er... just had to express how much I like "built in" microphones and 10$ mics from Radioshack or something like that. -
I'm going to nod my head and pretend I understood what you just said.
Then I'ma go on MSN and pester you for it.
-
I see. And since the three links you made in that post, there, have expired is there any other way I can get them?
-
There was a remix album and I wasn't told? Where can I get a hold of this monstrosity?
-
Oh yeah. I found the CD. Get in touch and I'll see what I can do.
-
Well I'm off to college in a bit...so I'll see what I can do when I get back home.
-
Ive got them on CDR somewhere...which ones did you want?hmm, does anyone know of an archive of Silent Hill 2 FMVs? Otherwise, I'd like to know how I might capture them for myself, if they are not attainable...Also, I like the music for that horrific porn one. The bit when you're at the very end of the hotel in SH2? Love it. Shame it's not on the OST.
-
It says drawing block in the game, but in the opening cinema it says Codwigr Diner. Or something like that, it's pretty blocky.
Why? No idea. That isn't on the map anywhere...no memos mention it. Nothing.
-
Except that the book said CODWIGR DINER in that particular videro.
-
Wait,I thought the freaky no-mouth Alessa was the poster they were using...given it's on the site and all the cinema's in my area have that as the poster on their websites.
Still...even if it isn't I'ma try and filch one of whatever they eventually do go for. So determined am I that I even considered getting a job for the sole purpose of getting one. >_>
-
Replaying SH2 got me thinking yesterday...do you suppose there's any connection between the mystery jumper from Brookhaven and the way the mannequins throw themselves off the tops of buildings?
If it were any other game I wouldn't comment, but given the way the Silent Hill series is crazy go-nuts over references and symbolism I think it could be referring to something.
I mean, I know the monsters in SH2 are going for the whole eros/thanatos thing, but that doesn't mean they can't go further, right?
Also: Jezum craw that's a freaky picture of Alessa. Where's her fuggen mouth!?
I'm totally gonna snag me one of those posters when the cinema across the street gets them...I couldn't forgive m'self if I didn't.

Yeah, prolly. Like those Al Behd guys.
