I have an old m-audio Audiophile 192 in my ancient desktop, and it always worked well for me ( http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-US41750-Audiophile-Hi-def-Card/dp/B00064ABSG/ref=pd_sim_e_3 )
I'm in a similar situation upgrading my PC and thought I could just use my old PCI m-audio sound card to get me by for the time being. It wasn't quite so simple, because if you're getting a new motherboard you'll need check what kind of PCI slots it has. From what I can tell, the newer PCIe slots won't take a legacy PCI card.
You're probably just better off going external.

I've got plenty of other bits and pieces that I wrote before this, but this is probably the one an average listener could think 'this sounds complete and intentionally written that way'. It was written in 2002 or maybe early 2003, when I was studying baroque music in high school.
Writing this was mostly an exercise in one of my text books, following their guide to form. I modified it further, joining two separate ideas together into the one. Following their guide, I feel like I cheated a little bit, like I was 'composing by numbers', but I did like how the result sounded. A few years late I threw a couple of Soundfonts and reverb onto it, which you can hear here.

Look into de Blob. Whilst I haven't played it, I recall reading interesting things about it's use of music with the gameplay.

Yeah, I just wrote it and didn't even think to check.
And I don't think Running Man has any kind of credits in it, so there wouldn't really be any opportunity to acknowledge it. Some fansubbing groups do note what the music is with some variety shows (assuming they know what it is).
The ReMix was also used briefly in episode 5 (edit: and ep. 6 & 7) , which makes me wonder if it's part of a larger collection, meaning it potentially could appear on other variety shows. I've heard pieces from Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop on some of these shows before.

I've recently gotten into the popular Korean variety show Running Man.
I started watching episode 4 today when I heard something very familiar:

It took me a little while to realise, but that's actually Dr. Fruitcake's Mario'sTropicalParadise.
A few of the Korean variety shows I've seen have had a great selection of obscure music, but I certainly was not expecting something from OC ReMix to make an appearance.

In Windows 7 (possibly earlier), you can edit simple details through a standard explorer window.
Right click on the MP3, click Properties, go to the 'Details' tab, and change what you need.

Chernabogue, you're awesome not only for getting your entry in first, but for your interesting take on the theme. I gave out a laugh when I read 'Welcome to Hell', with the title foreshadowing what I was going to hear.
You did well to create the dark soundscape you were aiming for. It's little difficult to pick out the original melody, but because I know it well I was able to identify the different fragments in there, and how you altered the timing/flow to get your result.
Thanks for tackling this. I hope you had fun with it!

EDIT: Haaa, I just saw Gumshoe's theme in there. That was a fun track to remix a couple years back - wonder what Eilios will do with it.
I didn't think of checking previous years. I probably would've picked something else. Oh well, good luck to Eilios with that one.

Smooth Steel was my pick out of the competition. It's a good mix, however I think that Malcos and zircon could've worked together to flesh it out a little more from a structural perspective.

As much fun as I had remixing my piece. I must point out my displeasure at this two week extension. I'm not going to mince my words, so if they're a bit harsh, I apologize. This extension, to me, is a slap in the face. I worked hard this summer between work, moving, different events, but I still got mine done before the deadline. The way I see it, by extending it, in most cases you are rewarding laziness and procrastination. If you put a hard deadline on something and don't accept late submissions, you make a standard. People may get upset about being excluded because they were tardy in their submission, but they'll remember it and next time they'll submit before the deadline is through. Sorry if this has offended anyone, but I had to get it off of my chest. A deadline is a deadline. I know things happen sometimes and you can't get something done, but that's just it. Things happen.
It's not exactly matching the tone of your post, but I just wanted to jump in and give my thanks for tackling Agitha's Castle (and for doing so on time).
Even though it's a relatively short theme, you've still managed to extend it out and give it your own structure. You also get points for breaking away from the obvious style of the original and trying something different - along with the voice overs, I think it really embodies the underlying crazyness/creepiness of Agitha.

The Sony Headphones do fit around my ears, but I think you're right track with the heavy treble reason.
I've been doing a bit of reading around tonight, and this post here accurately describes the situation. I guess it's just something I need a bit of time to adjust to.

This may be a kind of vague question, but let's see how we go...
As a part of some recent technology upgrades, I'm going to pick up some new headphones to accompany some hobby composition projects. In the past I've been using my old and worn Sony MDR-CD270 headphones. Just reading up on them now, their reputation certainly isn't good, but the qualms people have with them don't really surprise me (I've noticed a few irregularities myself).
Anyway, so I've been looking at getting something much better, perhaps in the Sennheiser range. My housemate has the HD 485 model, and has given them to me to try out. Logically, these would be a much higher quality set of headphones.
But here's the thing, when I listen to familiar pieces of audio, the sound quality seems somewhat muffled; almost like I'm holding thin plastic cups over my ears. Additionally, the sounds appear to be further away.
This all may be just because my Sony's have been lying to me for years, but are these genuinely the signs of higher quality and accurate headphones? I'm personally finding this a bit annoying.
Thanks in advance. Let me know if you need clarification with anything, but keep in mind I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on the subject.

I'm sure I'm just echoing what some people have already said, but here's what I've been thinking today...
That people see the kind of music you like as a reflection upon the kind of person you are. You see this sort of stuff turn up as a 'getting to know you' kind of question - "What kind of music do you like?".
It may not necessarily be right, but people apply stereotypes. For example, if you say you like Classical, they may view as intelligent, old fashioned or even slightly snobbish.
Saying you like video game music indicates a kind of deep geekery, because you would go to the extent to not only play a game, but become so engrossed with it that you listen to the music from it outside of it's original context. As such, people generally don't want to be associated with it.
