  1. Wasn't as impressed with the game's ending as I was with OoT's. It was good, yes, but Ocarina's was just epic. Still one of my favorites. The fight with Ganondorf was great, though. Even better than Wind Waker's.
I don't get what was so great about OoT's ending; it didn't even come close to setting the mood as well as Majora's Mask. Besides, I liked the fact that, for once, you fight Ganondorf hand-to-hand. That and the horseback sequence were awesome fun, even if they weren't all that hard.
  2. Response to complaints and stuff.
A diving minigame could mean anything. I was thinking like zelda 64 where you jump off the top of the waterfall and have a set time limit to collect rupies or something ;) You can revisit goat herding? I've gone back there dozens of times and the guy just keeps telling me to look after the kids ;). I'm glad you liked all of the music. I've gotten everything in the game except a couple pieces of heart. I agree the cave of ordeals was fun/difficult, but you can't really say the game wasn't easy just because of one difficult non-required side quest ;).
Honestly, I'm happier with the river-ride bottle shooting mini-game and river flight balloon popping mini-games. Diving was always kind of a crappy mini-game, but I DO wish fishing played a larger part in the game. It's actually kind of fun once you get into lure fishing. You need to be on Epona when you talk to the guy to play the goat game, and I never said the game wasn't easy simply because of the Cave of Ordeals; I was simply stating that it was the most difficult part of the game.

There were plenty of fun things to do in the game anyway, and, honestly, I liked these mini-games more than a lot of the previous ones (however, I did enjoy that mini-game shop in Majora's Mask where you beat one each day for a heart piece). This game could've used more archery mini-games.

As a californian, who is much closer to japan than most americans, this game ROCKS THE HOUSE!!! I just beat it this morning and, i'm not exaggerating this, but this game is the longest Zelda game in the whole series. At my last save of the game it was like at 35:06-36:06 or something like that. Defenitely the must own game for the nintendo WII

    ...

    k.

EDIT: Hey, tcrpg person, could I suggest removing that quote from your sig? I enjoyed it as well, but it's a pretty big spoiler, simply because of its source.

  3. Nope, no real clear answers about the timeline. However, there is a couple things that make me think there will be a direct sequel based on this one.
The cutscene after the 3rd temple, yadda yadda, when it shows the unified Fused Shadow, it shows 3 Dark Link, but it never brings them up again, anywhere in the game.

And at the end, Link survives and everything. Which makes me think there will be a sequel that takes place in the same timeline, with the same Link, where he will have to face off against the 3 Dark Link. If so, I just hope they don't do the whole Mario Sunshine thing, with them being "clones" out to discredit his name or anything.

Y'see, I was under the impression that that whole deal took place in the past and had no real connection to Link at all. The light being, when telling the story to Link, used familiar faces in place of the characters' actual faces. Since the people that were banished (the Twili ancestors) were looked upon as evil for using their dark magic, the dark Links were used to illustrate that. So I don't really see a direct sequel being made, though another prequel would be kind of nice to show us how Gannondorf managed to escape the sacred realm the first time. Not that I'm complaining, but I was sorta hoping that's what TP was for.

Bean is correct. I fail to see how anybody could actually take that literally.

So I haven't read much of the spoilers. All I want to know is whether this game really does provide a connection to the other games and makes the timeline clearer. If it takes too many spoilers to explain, don't bother :P

I have the game but I have no Wii Sad I can't wait until I finish finals next week and come home to maybe buy one.

Ignore some of the others (like SilverStar). It does. There are plenty of clues to let you know that this game takes place way after Ocarina of Time (as JackKieser said, 100+ years), as it references the OoT storyline as mythology. You also get glimpses at a few different types of ancient technology, and, through subtle references, you really get enough information on the previous games that they tie together fairly well. Not everything is flat-out explained, though, as that was not necessarily TP's purpose.

    Complaints and stuff.
Diving wouldn't make sense, simply because the new Zora tunic allows you to swim. You DO revisit the goat herding game for a heart piece. The music was great; I don't recall hearing a song I didn't like. Also, for something a bit more difficult, run through the Cave of Ordeals.

Don't complain 'til you get 100%.

I will tell you that there's really no direct link to either Ocarina or Wind Waker that I could see.

What? It makes plenty of mythological references to OoT, including the same Temple of Time. It's just that this game takes place way after OoT, so the connections are more subtle.

Also, it's not meant to tie into Wind Waker directly. Injin posted a video awhile ago that theorizes on the overall Zelda timeline (released before Twilight Princess was out) that pretty much nails everything dead-on.

Oh, and yes to both questions, Megadave.

  4. Alright, need a small bit of non-essential help near the end of the game.
Back courtyard of Hyrule Castle, there's an extra room/chamber that I can't seem to access. I believe it has the key needed to unlock the room just before the castle boss chamber, which has the 3 extra treasures in it. Anyone know how I get to this room?

    Edit:

A-ha! Found it. Wasn't anywhere I'd expect the entrance to be.

I had this same problem... I saw the locked room with 3 treasures, but had no key. But since the boss room was right there I just ignored it.

So how do you get into the back courtyard, anyway?

Is that the area with the Wind things? I could not figure out how the hell to get that.

    Easy.

You see six little Spinners in a triangle. Imagine these as a triforce in your mind. Go to the gate that's locked and look to the floor. You see a bit of at trifoce emblem, but it's all covered in leaves. Either blow the leaves away with your boomerang, or dig at them as a wolf until they're gone. Note the yellow line that traces the outline of the Triforce emblem. It should resemble a lightning bolt.

Now you know which fans to hit.

Nope, that's not the room they're talking about.

To the north/left of the gate, there's a pile of leaves near the wall. Go into wolf form and use your senses. There's a place you can dig, that will take you over to the graveyard, which is behind the castle, and has a little puzzle in itself. In the treasure room before the boss room, you can find a rupee of every color, including silver, plus bombs, arrows, even seeds for your slingshot, and if you destroy the armor you can get a faerie to help you in your battle against Ganon.

I was responding to Bigfoot, not the others.

  6. One of the small little details I love is how the different tunics/armors actually look different this time. I kind of wish you got a straightforward "red" armor thats strong against fire (but trade off is you're more vulnerable to some other elements like ice, similar to the other one.) since so many enemies use fire against you.

The Magic Armor looks cool but it just drains the ruppee's so damn quickly. Its useful if you switch really quickly though for certain things, although I haven't really thoungt anything's been that much of a threat to you in this game.

    Three words.

    "C____ o__ O_____".

    Have fun solvin' that mind-binder.

  7. I'm currently stuck just before what I assume is the end boss. I've gotten to his door, but I can't figure out how to get the big key. There's a room with two symbols on the wall. The small symbol sits over a chest with a small key that I already got. I'm assuming the larger symbol is where the boss key is going to be, but I can't seem to get it to show. It seems like I've done everything, but there's something I'm overlooking. This is driving me insane! If anybody can help, I'd love a hint or two.
As youkai already said, you just need to go up the shadow waterfall in one of the previous rooms. You know that room that's outside, where you fight off a ton of bird-type things, ride a platform to a ledge to the right of the entrance and then kill a bunch of those bird-head statues and a chest appears? Well, there's a shadow waterfall there, too. Stand in front of it and do a sword spin, jump across, and look up. There are a bunch of clawshot marks to lead you up to the chest.

Note that this isn't the first shadow waterfall you see, after you first get your sword charged with light. As you're scaling the middle tower, you come across another one in the room I explained.

By the way, you aren't required to shield bash the purple energy balls they shoot. I think you can sword slash them too, but really, I just ignored their shots and walked straight towards them.

So, there's a chest I can't figure out how to get at. Anyone able to help?
In the castle in Snowpeak Mountains, there's a chest in the room just to the right of the main entry way, but a huge gap in the floor and nothing to latch onto, and Midna isn't being any help. Anyone know how I get across there?

I've already made it to the city in the sky. Think I burned out because I couldn't find where to go in there, to even reach the first chest. Gonna give it another go now, since I needed a break after a marathon session of nearly 18 hours solid. x.x

Alright, this one had me baffled for awhile too. I finally figured it out near the end of the dungeon. Look at your map, note which room that is. Now go to the room that's directly above this room (on floor 2). It should be the room where you had to kill two of those ice-giants that were in cages as you went up the stairs, and there's a cannon up there and all that. When you get up the stairs, turn right to that nice part of the room with furniture. Notice the clawshot panel. Pull out your ball and chain and swing it at the ground around the center of this room. You'll fall through and land next to the chest. Use the clawshot to get back up when you're done.

Also, City in the Sky was a great idea for a dungeon, but it really turned out quite tedious. Still great though; the item and boss fight totally make up for it.

  8. when have side quests EVER been worthwhile aside from the weapon trading events?

theyre there to give you something more to do in the game

Sidequests aren't necessarily 'worth it', per se, as everyone has their own standards. I'm just saying that TP has the least significant reward ever.

    k.

The reward for me is actually finishing it. I don't care what I get for it. Cave of Ordeals? The fun was going through all of it; I don't care how useful the reward is or is not.

Sure glad I wasted my time in this damn dungeon in the desert only to find out I need the dual clawshot at the end. Oh' date=' you can leave but you gotta start all over :\[/color']

Yeah, I know, I did the same thing. The Cave of Ordeals is pretty long; it's really annoying that you can get to a spot and have to start over if you didn't have that item. The way the Great Fairy says it before hand, it sounds like you're able to come back and start from that point. Then when you actually go to do so, she's like "oh, by the way, you have to start over. ^___^". Bitch.

Oh well, the last item you need are the dual clawshots, so you can go in there after that. However, I'd recommend being majorly stocked up on everything (play the star game and get the 100 arrow quiver, and maybe carry three or four fairies or some potions). The Cave of Ordeals gets pretty rough in some points, especially in the very end.

The reward is somewhat worth it though, but only as long as you do it BEFORE doing the last two dungeons. The use is very limited, so if you're doing it after beating the game, it won't help you.

  9. also aaaaaaaaagh i cant find the last special sword technique
The final stone is in the hidden village, where you have to kill those twenty guys to save the old lady, and then later play the "find the twenty cats" game (which is really annoying, by the way). You find it right next to the master cucco that you talk to to start that mini-game, in the back of one of the buildings. The wolf appears at Hyrule Castle, just past the first gate in town. So you're able to pick it up at the end of the game.

So anyway, I beat it tonight. Credits started rolling right at the turn of midnight. I loved the game, and the last fight was pretty cool. Still missing five heart pieces, 20 poe souls, and like 9 insects. I've got a to-do list right now; I REALLY need to get my hands on the next size wallet, because this magic armor eats 600 rupees way too quickly, especially at some parts in the Cave of Ordeals, when fighting two iron maidens or an iron maiden and two of those dragon knight things.

i found that one for my sixth one

i need to look somewhere else

also even though i have the magic armor i keep forgetting to use it

even in the cave of ordeals on the very last room, figting those three iron knuckles or whatever you want to call them now

    Oh yeah, Iron Knuckle.

The last room, with the three of them? They are most certainly bastards, though I was out of rupees at that point. I did, however, have three fairies in reserve. I managed to get all that way without using any fairies, and only like, 900 rupees, and then they required me to use two of my fairies.

Anyway, on to your conundrum. Did you get the one on Snowpeak before seeing the yeti? The one in the Sacred Grove? Zora's Domain? Death Mountain? Lake Hylia? Uh... the beginning forest?

  11. I need 5 more Poe Souls :[

    Make that two more.

    edit: woot, found em all.

omg he wants 40 more :[[[[[[[

Hahahaha, I was gonna say... "Shit, you found them ALL? I thought youkai was the only one that far into the game."

I've got about 40 right now, by the end of the sixth dungeon. 35 hours or so in, I've gotten a little over half of the bugs now. Not sure how I'm doing on hearts, since I'm not sure how many more dungeons await me.

Still no double clawshot, but these items are still impressing me. Sixth dungeon = awesome, that item was nice.
  12. Heh, I only just started the sixth dungeon. I've been giving the game 6-10 hours a day; got 33 hours on it right now. I loved the concept of the fifth dungeon, but it was really damn annoying. The miniboss was a pain at first, but I escaped with one heart left (I didn't have many to begin with, and I was out of soup), and I absolutely love the item. What I really hated, though, were those ice soldier guys that threw ice pikes. Bastards.

The Poes are annoying me, ("oh, it must've been 60, not 20!"), and I'm making slow progress on the bugs (I've got a bit over a third). Doing great on Heart Pieces, though. I'm wondering how it's going to turn out in the end; I imagine I'll still be scouring the game for the final heart pieces and whatnot when I'm at the end.

    Also,

I want my second Clawshot, damnit.
  13. Help?
OK, in the Lakebed Temple, there are two pieces of heart. I have the one that is on top of the chandelier in the main chamber (with the moving staircase), but there's one more in a room in the westernmost of level B1. I have to get the water to flow westwards to flood the room. This causes a white bridge to raise up and allow me to walk across to the piece of heart.

The problem? It's flowing east, I've already completed the level, found the big key, and am ready to face the boss. I think that I'm too late to redirect the water that direction and get that one piece of heart. Is there a way to do this, or am I screwed?

You're never screwed out of heart pieces. Are you sure you looked hard enough? You should be able to rotate the staircase so that the water's flowing westward, despite how far you are through the dungeon. You can move the stairs from either the first or second floor; you just have to use the clawshot and the vines on the walls to get around the center room. I know some of the stair-rotate mechanisms are in the form of clawshot panels.

I can't really explain it better, but you shouldn't have a problem with it, since you can get the water flowing in both directions, and can always rotate the staircase around any which way (you could make it go up the center where there's no water flow, go up the stairs, rotate it to flow westward, and then slide down).

EDIT: The Orb game should not be difficult. You just...

need the Clawshot for round one, and I'm assuming a second Clawshot for round two. I've seen plenty of areas that would require two Clawshots to properly navigate, and the fact that Link hangs on the walls after he's made it only reinforce that thought.
  14. Just to be clear, every time I post something that uses pretty much anything specific from the game, I'm using spoiler tags since, to me, anything said that would ruin the "HOLY SHIT AWESOME" shock one would normally receive is a spoiler.

Even the little things have me loving this game, such as the bomb arrows (a la Link's Awakening), and the multiple bomb bags and such. Some of the minigames are awesome, even though the Lake Hylia River games are a bit difficult to control completely.

Anyway, just beat the fourth dungeon, almost thirty hours in. Holy shit at just about everything. Awesome item, amazing boss-fight, great cutscene following. I'm taking my time between dungeons, exploring the world and trying to find Heart Pieces / Poes / Golden Bugs. One thing that's beginning to frustrate me is the fact that, every time you find a hidden hole in wolf form and dig down into it, it's going to be a room full of enemies to kill. Once you do that, a chest will appear, and it will always be a damned orange rupee. I kept doing them hoping for Heart Pieces, but goddamn...

I'm thinking the real reason they have five heart pieces per container is that there are more dungeons in this one than any of the previous ones. They wanted to maintain the amount of heart pieces for you to find, so they cranked the number up to five to balance it out. Just my theory, anyway; I'm still not far enough to finalize that.

  15. Funny. If they'd actually played Twilight Princess enough, they'd know it's actually a huge breath of fresh air for the Zelda series. Whatever.

    Shhteve:

Are you talking about the part where you cross the bridge, and then twilight monsters drop down onto it and steal it away? I still haven't found where they took that bridge, or even if it's replacable, but you open up new paths around Hyrule Field soon enough to really worry about that one.

Anyway, I finished the third dungeon a bit ago, did some other stuff, etc. I'm taking the dungeons slowly; I'm trying to gather heart pieces and golden bugs as I go. That, and I only have about six hours a day to play. Since I like to be really thorough, I end up spending quite a bit of time in each area.
