  1. After eventually returning to and liking a few games that I thought I had put down forever (Wild Arms 3, Metroid Prime 2, Pikmin 2), I try not to give up on games too easily.

I actually enjoy Unlimited SaGa, despite it replacing almost everything people actually like about RPGs.

  2. I think the photos for the FLUDD move clearly show that FLUDD Mario is a completely different character. Nintendo has clearly shown different iterations of the same character are not beyond them, especially for somebody with as many game incarnations as Mario.

  3. After about 2/3 of the way though the game I started to get the feeling about that game of the "could have been" or "should have been".

This game is awsome in its own right but seeing all the new items, you just wish that you actually used them outside of the dungeon you got it in, aside from the clawshot.

I thought the same thing at first, but having gotten pretty much everything, nearly all of the items are used well on the overworld. You are probably talking about the items from dungeons 4, 5, and 6, and I assure you, they have their uses for both poes and heart pieces. Furthermore, the dungeon 5 item is an OUTSTANDING combat weapon.

I do agree that sometimes doing a sidequest 'for the fun of it' is enough, but there is a lot of squandered potential by offering nothing cool.

  4. theyre there to give you something more to do in the game

QFT & E. Having something to do after the main game is always nice. It makes you feel like you get your money's worth from a game, something I find is sadly lacking these days.

Mind you, I have a few games that are around the 900+ hour mark, so maybe I'm just a little biased when it comes to playing past the main quest.

Most other games have somewhat interesting rewards for completing sidequests.

You get 200 Rupees for killing all of the poes, and you just more rupees for the bugs.

  5. So, I've gotten all of the heart pieces in almost exactly 50 hours.

Then, I go to check what the rewards are for getting all the bugs, poes, and the bonus Cave.

Seriously, don't bother with any of them. Nintendo is 99% retarded after pulling this shit again. Never have massive sidequests been less worthwhile than in Twilight Princess.

  6. You consider 512 megs limited? You consider being able to use SD cards up to 4 gigs limited? Wow, must be pretty hard on you, using all those gigabyte-sized files all the time.

I'm not entirely sure if they will ever support using SD cards as more than backup memory. My main concern is that 512 limits what sort of addons we will be able to see.

  7. So, I beat the game, and here are my thoughts on the overall game, items, dungeons, and bosses.

This game isn't really that much longer that OoT. Both games have Eight real dungeons, and while TP's dungeons are longer, OoT has the ever so cool Kakariko Well.

DUNGEON ONE: Not all too spectacular, feels like a 'first dungeon', and isn't all that long.

BOSS ONE: I hated it, as I wasn't too good with the controls yet.

ITEM ONE: As far as I care, this is a new item to the series, and a cool one at that, and is used well throughout the rest of the game.

DUNGEON TWO: Getting better, but stomping around SLOWLY is always enough to piss me off.

BOSS TWO: Not a terribly difficult fight, but seriously goddamn cool.

ITEM TWO: The most fun archery of any Zelda game, PLUS BOMB ARROWS.

DUNGEON THREE: Water Temple Incarnate, loads of fun, long, and truly well designed.

BOSS THREE: Rather simplistic, but still fun.

ITEM THREE: Just like OoT, but faster and funner.

DUNGEON FOUR: A very fun and long dungeon, with an awesome miniboss and two distinct themese for each half of the dungeon.

BOSS FOUR: One of the best bossfights EVER.

ITEM FOUR: Cool inside this dungeon, but barely used outside of it.

DUNGEON FIVE: Another fucking awesome dungeon, with interesting puzzles, great art design, and a setup unlike any other Zelda dungeon.

BOSS FIVE: A nice fight to demonstrate the use of the new item.

ITEM FIVE: Fun as hell inside the dungeon, but I never really used it after that.

MINIBOSS FIVE: People had a hard time, but I didn't have much of a problem. I just got in close, rolled around, and slashed.

DUNGEON SIX: Very cool dungeon and entrance area, with yet another setup and general theme. Work your ass off on the way up, and smash your way down.

BOSS SIX: A fun fight, although quick once you realize what to do. Funny part two.

ITEM SIX: Cool in the dungeon, but never used after the Owl quest, really.

DUNGEON SEVEN: My new favorite Zelda dungeon. Long and exciting.

BOSS SEVEN: Fucking Epic, as they say.

ITEM SEVEN: I predicted that I would be getting this, but it is absolutely fun as hell and makes the dungeon as fun as it is.

DUNGEON EIGHT: Cool near the end, but annoying while you are carrying the SOL around.

BOSS EIGHT: Fun, but I was hoping for more iterations of other bosses.

ITEM EIGHT: THERE IS NONE. SCREW YOU, NINTENDO.

'Dungeon' NINE: Short, decent music, and has some interesting puzzles. Shorter and less interesting than the last dungeon in OoT.

BOSS NINE: The first two forms are like OoT with crappier controls, but the last two parts were cool.

OVERALL: Cool dungeons, boss designs, and items, but the main world isn't all that intereting and doesn't utilize the new items all too well. I'd prefer to see Spinner slots fucking everywhere, rather than 9 bomb points per screen. The game is probably a bit better than Ocarina, but it really ends on a low note with the last two dungeons lagging far behind the rest of the pack.

But then again, what do I know? I really liked Majora's Mask AND Wind Waker.

So, when does Phantom Hourglass come out?

As usual, I'm always interested in more action-adventure games. (as well as more interesting MMO's). Any suggestions? I still haven't played the Prince of Persia games. Should I do all three or is playing only the best one enough?

Either way, I'm stuck at the first real boss of the second disc in Grandia 3, and I have Tales of Symphonia waiting for me, as well. It would be nice if Nintendo stepped up the virtual console releases; as it stands now, it is just freaking pathetic.

And a final idea: Nintendo should release a 'Second Quest' for TP, or a boss mode of some sort. Not sure how much is possible with the limited Wii memory.

  8. With regards to your souls, I think you can stumble on your first one fairly early.

With regards to game length, action-adventure games fluctuate wildly from person to person because of the different ways in which people go exploring. If you go back to access side areas as soon as you get the appropriate item, you will take a lot longer than those that wait until later to do some super efficient hunting.

  9. For anyone who knows:

I just traveled through the Sandsea (first time) with characters aroudn level 12. I think I'm underpowered cause I'm just running my ass off trying to progress through the game without losing characters. I just got raise but I want the gambit to use it. I'm at the boss at the tomb with these Level 12 characters...should I level everyone up? It's gotten to the point where I just wanna make sure that Vossler is okay and my party is just healing.

Uh, yeah. You're gonna get raped by that boss. Get your guys to at least level 15 or so.

With the bosses in the tomb, but the Bird and the Demon Wall that you have to fight can be wasted pretty quickly with a single mist attack. The end boss, on the other hand, may be a little bit more difficult, though keeping your characters spread out, healed up, while keeping a nice stock of Phoenix Downs should be enough at level 12. Note that there are no save points in that dungeon, not even right before the last boss, so you'll have to exit the place a few times.

I restarted the game after playing for an initial 10 hours. Got to the Leviathan, and decided I wasn't leveled up enough. Right now I'm at level 20 and I'm pushing it up to Level 30 so I can just start rippin' the hell out of the rest of the enemies I'm going to encounter from here to there.

Level 20 at the Leviathan? I'll bet the Imperials are running away from you.

I was about level 20 there for my 'Solo Balthier' game, so a group of 20s there is own sauce.

  10. By the way, pay attention to Boss 8's music, it reminded me of the nightmare's music from Link's Awakening.

Anyone up to that amazingly good fight, please listen to it so you can compare.

Hmmm... I seem to have confused 6 and 7... However the 6 miniboss remains on the easy side.

Now boss 8 makes me wanna write to nintendo and ask them to make a boss attack mode available for download.

Also, great choice on temple 9's music, it's haunting me this morning still.

Yeah, the lack of a Boss mode is a glaring oversight, but really, that is the sort of the thing Nintendo does (make glaring oversights, that is).

  11. I loathe the controls, at parts. The battle on horseback that was the 2005 E3 demo is one of the worst stages I've played in a looooong time. Since you are on a horse, attacking with A is disabled, so you have to attack with somewhat precise timing with wand movement, and from experience, it just doesn't work too well.

So far, the Gamecube version seems like it is going to be incomprehensibly easier.

  13. I beat the game but haven't done most of the extra bosses yet. I've gone back and started a 'Vaan Only' game, but once I got Balthier it became a 'Balthier Only' game. Overall, it isn't going to be too difficult, though the Ghis fight was a bit rough.

In terms of story and charactization, it is about on the same level as FFT and Vagrant Story. The scenes are well written, and the central story focuses more on politics and the motivations of villains than it does on the playable characters. If you couldn't stand either of those games, then you won't be able to stand FF12.

Finally, the story of 12 is connected with the stories of Vagrant Story and FFT, with minor continuity errors.
