Yeah when I said doubled, I meant recorded twice. So that just means they need to be hard panned, which, ironically, was the way I had intended when I first recorded the song last year lol. Cant remember why it was changed ... but yeah ill try that and see what happens. -

Thanks, I have been noticing the crash and rides too as of late, so i see what you mean, and the kick too, though I agree that only a dB or two increase would be sufficient. Now the problem with the guitars I'm not sure i understand, because the rhythm guitar track is actually been doubled and panned hard left and right (perhaps not hard enough i guess) or were you referring to the lead parts? I'll try panning them a bit further, they are about 75% at the moment. I was thinking about some delay on the lead guitars anyway, but i wasn't sure, I guess that makes up my mind, lol. Thanks again for your objective comments, no one can mix a song without additional ears helping out, lol. You get used to the way it sounds and have a hard time noticing little details. -

Thanks for the suggestions, but i wanted to make sure which track you listened to? That sounds like more of the issues with the older version, just making sure before I go messing with the mix again. Thanks -
This is not generally my type of music, but I gave it a listen and it sounds good, a bit repetitive, but I think that generally comes with the genre. It being ambient and all, lol. It comes across loud and clear, nothing pops out as irritating. A good background piece.

Yes...yes...that may prove to be an issue....lol, but glad you enjoyed the song at least -
I'm not familiar with the source material so I'll focus on the sound only. I too have a hard time accepting this as really funky music, its got a lot of percussion rhythms, but funk music is more lively and energetic. I can't think off the top of my head what I'd call it though, lol. I'll get back to you if I get any ideas. This is a very subdued piece so I can see where it might be hard to come up with some more variation, but I'm not sure if that sort of calm background music was what you were going for; if that is the case then it works well. Except that crash, something about it detracts from the over all feeling of the song, I think It might be too loud for this style of music. At first the piano part seamed a bit quiet, but it did get louder when it played the melody, so I'm not sure where I stand on that one. Over all, sounds good, keep messing with it!

Ok I recently submitted the song "Off to Morrowind", based on the the theme from Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and it was politely rejected. Since the the judges said to resubmit, I have made a new version with a new part or two, new sounds, much better drum part, and more energy. I would love to hear people's input before I resubmit it. Here is the link: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6805831. If it doesn't take you right to the song then you can go to www.soundclick.com/sirgareth and it is entitled "Off to Morrowind Again" the original version i did before is also there if anyone wants a listen. I have been working for a long time on this project and I mean to get it right this time! Thanks in advance for your comments, Gareth

If its a single track that may prove harder to EQ...you might want to consider making the drums your self using different tracks for each drum. As for Compression, I meant audio compression not file compression....again not so easy to do on a single track with different sounds. Do you know what audio compression is? Its really hard to mix drums properly if you cant edit each sound yourself.

Megaman II (gameboy) - guitarist needed, I guess...

What makes this part akward is the fact the palm muting rarely takes on more that 3 note chords, and if you want those low C and D notes they really start to come out louder that you say you want, I will record some examples to show you the effect I mean, oh where do I send them by the way? -

I think thats playable, ill record something and see what you think -
The first thing I noticed was the the drums, everything sounded of until they came in, you might want to try putting an EQ cut at around 330Hz on the kick and boost 80-100Hz and Boost about 1Khz, also some compression might help a bit too. Your snare sounds rather dull too, maybe boost some of the High frequencies a bit. In general the drums sound kinda muffled. I'm not sure if there we any cymbals in there, I thought I heard a little crescendo roll, but I'm not sure. In any case, if there is one its too quite, if there isn't then I've been listening to too many songs tonight and I need to stop...lol. The ends cuts off abruptly for some reason, I'm not sure if thats because of the player or not, but its a very big groove kill. Otherwise, not bad for a first go, Keep getting some feedback though, from as many people as you can, someone always misses something, also listen to some similar music, something professional and well known. Comparative listening if you will, not to copy mind you, but to get an understanding as to what is generally considered well mixed, even experienced Audio Engineers need comparative listening. Anyway, hope that helps a little!

I'd be willing to give that guitar part a try if you want, can you send me the chords? I'll record it and send it to you and see if you like it
