Viva la Revolucion!
You had me going for a few seconds, prophet. Nicely done.

Maybe there isn't enough interest, but I'm still waiting for wishes of some people. I love the game, and if someone say that I should work on the song, I will do it.Sorry for my bad english.
Sorry for my bad english.
Just out of curiosity, do you already have a remixing toolkit set up?
I'm just asking because I was in the same sort of mode you were some time ago, and I was like, "Oh man I'm gonna make the best Golden Sun track remix ever", but I had nothing on my computer and ended up being too busy/lazy to get it. So I can testify that without a hell of a lot of willpower, it's really hard to get started from scratch. At least, it is for me.
Part of my problem is that I use Linux, though.

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone would like to possibly collaborate with me on one of Wind Waker's Puppet Ganon themes.
Personally, I'd love to try to do a mix of all of them, if possible, but it's probably easier to just do one. My favorite is the Spider version.
Unfortunately, I'm sort of new at this whole thing, and my equipment isn't all that great. But I'd love to work primarily on arrangement if someone else wants to focus on the production side. I'm open to anything, really.
If anyone's interested, please send me a PM.
On a related note, I'd love to see someone do a long, bombastic orchestral remix of all of the Ganon battle themes somehow. Given a little time I could probably draft a rough score of something, but it's not coming to me yet...

there aren't any, really. if you wantto contribute then just shoot me a

Along those lines, do you think you could further qualify the list on the first page to show how many of the "open" tracks have nobody interested in them (or having sent small WIPs or whatnot)? It says Tail Cave is open, but a few posts ago you showed that like four people are aiming for it and three have even sent in WIPs, so for a newbie like me or the other guy you were just responding to there'd be no reason to try to join the fray there necessarily.
Yes, I'm aware there's a newbie who's aiming for it, but he's put his money where his mouth is by submitting a WIP, right?

I haven't forgotten about this, but I've been busy (and now sick!) the last couple of weeks.
Sorry for that. I hope to have some time later this week to meddle with some counterpoint.

I just took a listen... you know what I think would rock with this?
Take some kind of brass-ish instrument with a warm sound, like a French horn say, and have some counterpoint and/or harmony work added to the lyrics along with the background more or less as-is, at least conceptually.
If you throw me a tempo measurement in BPM, then I can knock up a demo. (It feels about 135-140 bpm but I don't feel like doing guess and check...)
EDIT: This is what I'd said before:
I can't record or produce, but I could provide notation and a MIDI file if you're interested. (I might be able to generate a simple MP3 adding the horn part into the file already provided, maybe, but it will need serious production work because I don't really know anything about mastering)
You interested at all?

I've been interested in this sort of thing myself, though of course I suffer from the same problem as everyone else who seems to want to make a project along these lines. (Edit: I refer to being new)
In my case, I know for a fact I don't have enough time, because I'm acting as a ringer for the Link's Awakening project and I don't even have time to contribute to that, and I'm not even running it. (One of these days I'll have enough time to try my hand at a track, though! Seriously...)
Anyway, I'll just state for the record that I'm totally down with this project, if it ever gets started. And if I ever get time I'll contribute, too. So it's not like there's NO interest.
Personally, I think a genre theme is needed for the project, so that the album would be something completely different from the game. Chrono Symphonic comes to mind here... basically, given a good idea for a creative genre shift, I have to wonder if no one will want to try to get into the project. Experienced remixers with no prior exposure to the game might see it as a good creative exercise and could lend a surprising amount of power to the project if they make stuff in a new genre with no preconceptions.
It's a moot point anyway, though. Certainly it will be impossible to finish before Golden Sun DS comes out, so it might be better to wait for its release-- and also by then I might have some more free time to actually arrange stuff.

lol, linux is great. you start out with huge ideas, and you end up being bloody ecstatic if you can get the same functionality you expected on windows or OSX.
Oh shut up, lol. I had it working once, I can do it again.

I'm still lurking around here, watching the progress of the project. If I ever get time I might try to knock something up.
I know I've said that like five times now, though, so don't hold your breath or anything.
In personal news I've managed to find out how to get my speakers to work on my CentOS real-time install, which means if I can just figure out my audio setup again I'll be in business. Though the real issue for me is time. I might give it a shot next weekend, since I should have that weekend open.

a perfectly absurd question, mr. azure!
In my defense, I saw the grammar of the question as being a bit like... say, Epitaph aka Luke has a guitar recorder.
Awesome that we have a tenor recorder, then. Now no more making fun of me for the prophet's horribly ambiguous grammar, mkay?
bardicknowledge has a nice tenor recorder that he can play for people. he pm'd me about it a few minutes ago.
Kind of a dumb question, but tenor what? Tenor sax? Tenor voice?

plat, wondered where you were =) it's been a little while.
Yeah, sorry for that. I kind of died briefly. Then I got better.
I have a full-time job (internship really) as a tech ops guy for a large legal company, and it's been exhausting although quite fun. So there are times when I don't even touch my computer at home for weeks at a time.
Anyway, I'll try to be more active on the fora from here on. And prophet, who knows, I might have something for you by the end of the summer. Luke and I might do a collaborative work or something, who knows.
as for songs that are open - i'm getting a lot of people saying that they're interested, and i've had very few wips sent my way. send me music, people!
Well, I'm trying my best. As you know, I have some issues with my setup. So I'll be working on that. We'll see how it goes.
Good luck with your upcoming shit.

How did I not see this sooner!?
Okay, so I don't really have a remixing setup that's 100% solid yet, meaning I'm not sure when I'll be able to contribute, but I will say this...
I would LOVE to see a remix of some of the "boss"-ish tracks from the ORIGINAL Super Smash Bros.; Those tracks were vastly underappreciated, since for whatever reason Nintendo/HAL went mostly towards epic orchestral(-ish) in Melee and Brawl.
I'd love to contribute to a rocking rendition of any of these. I play bass, though it's anybody's guess whether it'll be of a decent quality or not.
Oh, idea. Would anyone be up for trying to take the Master Hand theme and adding original lyrics to it? I had some ideas in my head earlier, but nothing's sticking together. I just want to get this out there so that I've committed the idea to "paper" (work with me here) and hopefully won't forget.
Feel free to PM me with any thoughts, unless it's along the lines of directly contributing to these ideas. I don't want this thread flooded with fruitless discussion along these lines
Oh, and before I forget: Props to The Joker and whoever your predecessor was for conceiving of this idea; it's absolutely brilliant. I hope this succeeds!

What do you do, remix-wise, besides play the electric bass and the trombone? And what are these questionable tools you using?
One of these days I'll remember to keep my big mouth shut... the answer to this question is almost laughable.
Okay, so I play bass and trombone, neither of which in recordable quality. As for questionable tools, let's start with a questionable operating system, Ubuntu. Which is absolutely great for what I usually use it for, which is web browsing and programming, but as we all know multimedia development has always been a bit limited on Linux distros.
I did manage to get a theoretically workable setup going, in the form of Rosegarden (MIDI sequencer) --> fluidsynth (soft synth, and I'm able to throw in .sf2 soundfonts at that point) --> Jack (audio manager and router). That's all good for when I want to playback; for final rendering and recording I throw Audacity into the mix (...see what I did there?) and I can do some editing there and final mixdown.
the prophet of mephisto has heard how my setup can sound, or at least he has had the slightest "glimpse" into it. It needs work; for one thing I need to figure out how to get rid of clipping. *shrug*
The point being, I'd say I have a setup that COULD work, but it needs a lot more tweaking. It does not help that I have practically no experience working with audio. My primary specialty with computers has always been programming, and so I have a computer that allows me to do that well.
Goddamn, it's been a while since I've looked at this thread... and goddamn, a lot has changed.
Congratulations, prophet, on snagging bLiNd! That's an acquisition vaguely on par with... um... some really great baseball trade in history. And if I'm reading right, Sixto might be in on bLiNd's track as well?
Anyway, if nobody has taken Catfish's Maw or Tail Cave I might be interested in fooling around some on those this weekend... how's that sound? (Maybe you'll want to send me a reply via PM, I dunno)
Looking forward to the release, if I don't get a chance to contribute.
Also I'd love to collaborate with someone, if anyone's interested! ...Because my tools are questionable, I haven't got many samples, and I'm not even sure my ears are as good as I thought they were! I probably should stop listing all of these great reasons to sign on with me, because none of them are actually good! Maybe I should stop ending all my sentences with exclamation points too! What do you think, everyone!
Hard to believe this thread's still alive.
Since I last posted here, I have acquired a respectable but time-consuming/draining job, and I've had no time to work on my music-making skills at all. (Except that I'm taking bass lessons now, but I don't think I'll ever be good enough to use that in a remix or anything like that)
I'd almost forgotten about Golden Sun DS coming out. I almost wonder if it'd be worth trying to contribute to a GS remix project, to try to coincide with the launch of the DS game?
I just wish I'd joined this site earlier, so I have a little more experience under my belt... *sigh* Ah well, that's what I get.

now, why would you email me the link to 2girls1cup?
Oh, sorry, have you seen that before?
Okay, I officially relinquishing any claim I may or may not have legitimately had on Tal Tal Heights.
mephisophelian prophet, please check your e-mail. I have a surprise of a different kind in there for you. I hope you like it.

Xenosaga II, however, does translate to "Beyond Good and Evil". (I think. >_>)
Let's see. I got stuck on Xenogears and Chrono Cross. I only recently beat Chrono Trigger (Lavos is DAMNED hard if you don't do all the sidequests! So when I got there the first time I was like eff this. lol).
I haven't beaten a Mega Man game of any kind. Mostly because I just suck. I've played 2 and X to the first stage in the final levels arc, but could not get past them. (Actually, wait, I did get to Wily in MM2 I think.)
*sigh* I fail.
On the other hand, I did beat FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, and FFX, though not to the point of fighting all the optional bosses or anything. But it's a good start.
I really loved FFVIII, I have to be honest. I just loved all the customizing that the junction system provided. So even though I completely sucked on my first playthrough (and yes, Ultimecia's castle did own me the first time around) I managed to get better. The funny thing for me in that game was, I never used items in battle, not once. (I practically always had Attack/Magic/Draw/GF, in that order, until I got better commands.)
Oh, never finished FFXII. Got bored with that one at about the Mosphoran Highwaste. I'm not a fan of having to go through like five different overworld areas (each huge, and each practically requiring you to grind two or three levels if you don't want to get owned further along), and in my view the story developments did not balance that flaw at all. I did like the battle system (especially Quickenings, damn but I was good at those), and I gave the game a lot of slack for that reason, But it began to wear pretty thin anyway.
Okay. I'll send you something in a day or two. (Sorry, but gotta do my stats final first)

BTW, I have a concept sketch in progress. I know I've asked before, but this was like two weeks ago-- do you need it by any specific time? It's finals week for me, but I only have one more at this point and then I'm pretty much home free and have a week and a half in which I could work on it practically uninterrupted.
Somehow I managed to come up with a semi-interesting piano solo (currently 8 bars, soon 16), but I need to construct a song into which it will fit. (I also have other stuff, but it needs tweaking... everything always needs tweaking...)
Note to self: I think I need to hit the tutorials again...

You want to see an online project that gets finished, try looking at sourceforge. Plenty of good (open source) projects have finished on there.
Of course, there are a lot more in progress, but that's the nature of open source.
