  1. Labor Day! Labor Day!

Schools are closed and pools are open!

See what I like about this song is that even despite the manner of its development it actually doesn't feel lame or contrived and it has some honestly brilliant moments.

I just wish it hadn't ended on an upbeat note. Something like A#dim7+11 would have been a much better choice considering the nature of the tune.

The wanted song just feels lame and contrived, and, like a lot of music, rather than appeal strongly to anyone, just tries to feel mostly inoffensive, and thus utterly ignorable.

I'd love the lyrics to either, or better, both.

  2. Hell, Heroes was awesome. Some people probably don't know how to play it.

I have never had any real camera or collision issues with that game. Also the levels are a bit larger and have a bit more leeway in terms of multiple routes and such.

The three things I don't like are the following:

    1. Fly formation is a bit glitchy

    2. It's easy to fall off the rails

    3. Incessant chatter from the other characters gets old after a while and it's not easy to disable.

I don't see the controls as bad so much as different, and the camera has, again, never failed me.

It was the best $2.50 US I've ever spent. (This is the PC version -- it's possible that some bugs were fixed for its release.)

This game looks cool. If they don't rush it to the market (my main fear, either that or Renderware will screw it over like the PS2 version of Heroes).

Also, I want me some Rondo of Blood-styled Lypuston action. (Seriously, that boss just oozes Sonic-ness.)

  3. Yeah, like the above, I would say that not having the bass and drums come in together like that would be a bit better; together it is quite jarring. Maybe add the drums first since they come in sporadically, and then add the bass in the next phrase, and then start with the melody and such.

For the next section, I suggest maybe getting quiet, just adding the melody, and then layering on the harmonies progressively to build it back up. It will help give the section length and complexity without having to do too much.

  4. Sonic Boom HAS been altered slightly.

The drums in the verse have been changed and I think the synth line in the chorus is louder.

Also the looping has required additional edits to the song, but I don't think much was actually removed except the very ending riff.

  5. Pity, though, that Stafy isn't playable.

Stafy, from the gameplay of his games I saw the other day, is apparently a lot like Sparkster in the Genesis sequel of RKA (Snake over Sparkster STILL seems weird to me, but it was Kojima's idea rather than Konami as a whole anyways, so I can't think it too weird).

  6. Super Mario Galaxy is absolutely brilliant. Reminds me of a time when games were hard, and hell, lives actually counted for something.

SMG is pretty damn hard, and also amusingly enough, reminds me of what a truly good Sonic game could be like (it borrows many elements from Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, like the 100 purple coin challenge, gravity flipping, and platforming design -- here the "few platforms over the empty abyss" archetype in the 3D Sonic games actually WORKS).

Maybe it's easier than I think though. I think I spend too much attention on the incredible music. I'm not generally a big fan of trying to create epic orchestral scores in games because I feel that they come off as too pretentious, but damn if this hasn't actually replaced SMW and Sonic 3D Blast (CD version) as having some of the most awesome music ever. (Wouldn't have minded a teeny-tiny bit more thematic unity, but you can't have everything and it's mostly cohesive anyway.)

  7. Yeah, having self-proclaimed "experts" on to fill up time when there's apparently nothing worth reporting is NOT journalism.

I feel sorry for Amazon, though, who now have to go through a whole lot of crap for the fact that they've taken down most of the irrelevant reviews, what with cries of censorship and such, as though this actually improves the books rating (right now there is only one positive review; apparently there were several before her appearance on Fox News), or all the negative reviews are being removed.

I am a bit sad and disgusted that, rather than take any sort of moral high ground, we get this. Gets attention but totally breaks the Amazon review system. Either they're going to lose business from several conspiracy nuts, or they're going to do away with the system entirely.

If I am looking at a book, I don't want to read 400-odd posts from people who clearly haven't read the material anyway, any more than I want a person on Fox News to review material for 400 minutes without having read this.

The only good thing about the Amazon attacks is that it's a major website and thus will get coverage of the event. Seriously, people should have taken their complaints to her personal website.

  8. I thought they went as low in updates before, but this is a new low. OLD STAGESSSSS. I wish they just throw in a few SSB stages to be really nostalgic.

BTW, if they're going to put in some Namco characters, may as well put in Jin (Tekken) while they're at it. Some more realistic characters to mix it up with Snake. And Jin is pretty accustomed to being in crossover games by now.

Over SPARKSTER?? Are you kidding me? Sparkster is practically made for this game!
