  1. Hello.

I was introduced to Mega Man via the third installment at a very young age. So young, in fact, the only robot master I could defeat was Hard Man. Thus, he has become a favorite of mine, as has his theme.

I noticed he is quite underrepresented on this site (zero mixes!) so I thought I'd have a go with a hard trance mix. Cheeky, yes, but fun.

Given the judges board have been on the fence for my past two mixes, I'm hoping to make this one less questionable, so any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

    You can listen here.

    Thanks.

  2. Hi all,

I've been working on this mix for a while and thought it was about time to get some feedback. It's an electronic dance remix of the Venus Lighthouse theme from Golden Sun. I didn't use every part of the source but I think it still might be too sourcey. I'd like to hear your opinions on that, and also any technical/stylistic feedback.

    Here's the link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1kc5vmzoaj7x9tr/VenusLighthouse_02.mp3

    And the source:

    Thanks much!

  3. I think this could use with a lighter break somewhere in the middle. I agree with TheFixx in that the drums are a little bit crowded, especially with the synths bringing a lot of rhythm themselves. Still, it's an interesting beat, so maybe you could use it under the lighter break, having a less-crowded instrumentation on top of it for a change-up. You could even use the fiddle you mentioned for this break.

  4. It's been a while. Thanks for the feedback Orpheon and rig - I've taken all of it into account. And here we have the latest version. I've mostly changed the drums, tinkered with the lead a little more, and added a filter to the break, along with minor adjustments.

    Check it out here: https://www.opendrive.com/files?5963189_PC7r9

Any and all feedback is appreciated. :) One thing I'm worried about: are the crash and high-end frequencies too loud? Or is that just my imagination? And also, should it be faster? I feel like it should be faster, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks!

  5. Thanks for the response and suggestions, Gario.

I've altered the drums to give a more separate feel among the sections and also changed the lead. Both of these have given the track a less intense feel, but maybe that's a good thing. I've also thrown in the sword effect and key change--I had been intending to that but hadn't gotten around to it yet.

So here's the latest version. I'd like to know what you think, especially about the drums. And if anyone else has anything to say I'd love to hear it. :)

  6. Hi all...

A while back I posted a track called "Frog Dance," a remix of Frog's theme from Chrono Trigger. Well, I worked on it quite a bit and made a new version that I'd like you to check out. It's the most complicated work I've ever put together and has probably taken more time than any two other tracks combined. I see it as my baby, so please RIP IT APART. Don't hold back on your criticisms. I understand that this will only serve make it better. Thank you. :)

The mix can be streamed here: https://www.opendrive.com/files?5794543_m6wqz

    Thanks again for the feedback!

  7. I think the intro could use a little filtering on the main line, just to have it come in more smoothly. A ground bass coming in late in the intro and following through to the transition would give it more connection. You could also use the filter throughout the track, changing the lead in less of a repeated pattern.

The piano-ish sound near the end could be introduced subtly into the earlier parts to make it less surprising when it does show up. Also, I think it needs to be more clear above the bed of the rest of the track.

Keep working on it, you've got a good start.

  8. You definitely have something going here with the electric vibe. Kudos for the work so far.

I think this definitely needs some variation on theme. You've got a nice bed around the basic theme, and an interesting pike for the theme itself... it just repeats too many times without variation. I also think the second part of the theme (the repeated notes) needs more fatness to it, maybe add another layer of instrumentation to that and turn the theme down a bit, or even add harmonies on top of the theme.

Also, as you pointed out, the ending is quite abrupt. You seem to like it that way, but I would suggest bringing it to a tighter close, bringing the theme down to its base note with a one- or two-bar variation end.

Keep working at it. I'd love to hear the next version. :)

  9. Hi all...

I'm looking for some feedback on my newest attempt at getting onto OCR. This is a remix of the overworld theme from Final Fantasy Legend II for the game boy. The original track is called "The Legacy" and I don't have a name for my remix yet. Suggestions as to the name are appreciated as well as feedback on the track.

As for the actual music, it's orchestral dance that turns into trance and then wavers back and forth. That sounds weird but for some reason it seemed natural while I was making it.

    So here's the link: http://www.myotherdrive.com/dyn/file/375.070023.30102009.83676.6a64fi/FFL2_TheLegacy-Remix_8.mp3

Thanks much for the feedback. :)

  10. I just checked out the Omnisphere demo videos...

I think I'll go for that plus a controller. Thanks, avaris. :)

Would I have any latency problems if I ran the Omnisphere off an external USB hard drive? There's no way I can get 50 gigs of space on my main hard drive...

  11. rockmasterflex69, I am very happy that you liked my remix. :)

The fade out that you speak of is quite often considered a "cheap trick" used to end a song, so I don't think I'll go for it on my final mix. But since you made the request, I encoded a version that does it. I hope it's to your liking - I even made it extra high quality.

You can get it here: http://www.filedropper.com/frogdanceloopable

Any other opinions on the mix? I'm now hosting it somewhere else so if the other link doesn't work you can try the new one. I'd like to have some minor amount of confidence that it's as good as possible before sending the submission email.

  12. Thanks for the responses.

@Hy Bound: Yeah, it's mostly a tactile feel sort of thing, and for live performance. DAW's just never cut it for eliminating latency and intuitive control setups (even with a control surface). I also like the look. So it's a cosmetic thing, and a little bit of an intangible. An actual keyboard just works better musically in some undefinable way.

@Kanthos: The M3 just didn't have quite the sound quality, features, or intuitive interface I'd expected, but I guess I was surrounded by Korg over-hype up to the time i tried it. I'm quite comfortable with sound design, so user-friendliness takes a backseat for me. I would love to have a variety of sounds, both synthetic and acoustic, but I'd rather have excellent synth sounds and poor acoustic sounds than the alternative. I would rather do everything on the keyboard, both live and in the studio, to keep a consistent sound.

@Yoozer: The virus snow doesn't have a keyboard! That's one of the major reasons for me to buy a synth. The Polar looks cool but it's a little up there in price range...

  13. Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a synth to fulfill both studio and performance needs. Now, this is going to be a big budget blow-out for me so I'd like to get some opinions.

I tend toward harder dance, like hardcore and hard trance kind of stuff. I've been to a shop and played around with the Korg M3 (total disappointment) and Roland Fantom X (which I absolutely loved) but they didn't have a Motif XS out for demo. I've looked at some videos of the Motif and it seems pretty nifty. I know the Fantom G just came out but I haven't been able to demo one yet.

So, Fantom X? Or is the Fantom G worth the money for an upgrade? Or should I go for the Motif XS?

    Thanks.
