  1. I layered the vocal track then put on reverb, 2x Flanger, and distortion.. obviously, I was trying to cover a lot up =p I won't add all those effects again. Is there anything else I could have done at :20 to add something more, besides fixing the bass.. such as different patterns, better samples, or adding things? Regarding the transition, I actually went through four or five different variations of where to make that transition, and it never really felt quite right.. honestly not sure how to switch from fast and drummy to slow and dark. No, I didn't put FL files in Vegas. I meant that I used the files that came with FL for the entire song.. as in I didn't download any higher quality samples. Thanks for the tips, though. You're the first person I could really get to help me figure out how to improve. . . from now on my songs will have bass in them EDIT: Just figured out that the WAVs have quite a bit more bass in them.. so I guess exporting from Vegas is sucking away all the low end, which sucks because I like to put videos to my songs... I can start using Premiere for that, though. Anyone know if Premiere has any loss of audio quality issues? Or how to export from Vegas without losing quality?
  2. I'll have to check that out when I have access to my work computer again. If that's the case, maybe I could put the WAVs into FL and export from there. So that's one big problem, but I also want to know about the musicality of the mix. Is it strange, choppy, etc.? Bad samples? Everything used was from the default FL files after all.
  3. I created it in a very unorthodox way. What I did was create patterns in FL studio then exported them as high-quality WAVs into Sony Vegas. Then I positioned them on the timeline frame by frame. I did this because I'm very comfortable with Vegas and thought that exporting into 320kbs MP3 format wouldn't sacrifice quality. But it did.. anything low-pitched is garbled. This made me sad. I also used Audacity to do some vocal adjustments. That's it.
  4. Ugh, it was because changing my username changed the URL :/ Fixed it, though. I think everything is finally in order.
  5. Ah, ok. Sorry, completely new to the audiophile way of doing things, but yeah YouTube audio quality isn't great. I've uploaded it to soundcloud.
  6. Wow, it must be really bad if I can't even get any advice XD Guess I should probably stick to video work
  7. This is my first honest attempt at a song. It's really not a remix at all, but it does use a track from the Skies OST called "Tension". It's actually all original until 1:45 when the raw track comes in. I just added some extra beats and a rap on top, along with some small edits to the audio. From 3:08 on, there's some remixing of Tension to better suit a melancholy mood. The point is NOT to submit this to the judges but simply for comments and advice. I don't play any instruments (except the mouse and keyboard ), I don't know anything about music theory, and I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but I enjoy creating... stuff. So there ya go >_> EDIT: Uploaded to soundcloud as requested --> http://soundcloud.com/exobyte/of-rogues-and-silvites EDIT2: Source for everything 1:45 and on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42qnCABmxUM Video version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN0SopiCp1g - ExoByTe
  8. Ok, I'm sorry guys =/ It feels like this program is working against me, but I'll have to figure things out on my own. I mean, opening a new project gets rid of it, but then I have to start my project over. Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll wade through it on my own from here.
  9. Oh, I love it when I assume the wrong things. Ok having issues again. The reverb is applying to all my samples again. I opened up the FX channel viewer and made sure no effects were in the master channel. Nothing was in the channel I was working with nor the 'selected' channel either. How can I still have this effect being applied to everything I click? It won't go away.
  10. I had a feeling that was the case. Well, I found some samples with vibrato in them that I maybe could mix with non-vibrato samples (because having only vibrato would sound awful). Seems like a back-breaking process unless by 'invest in instruments' you meant there are pay-only samples out there, but I took it as making my own samples with real instruments.
  11. Ah nice. I haven't tried it out yet, but that seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I think my problem is that the programs I've learned in the past (mostly video editing programs) are pretty self-explanatory, placing everything where you'd expect it to be. But it seems with FL9 that the most important buttons are often the these tiny little boxes along with the not-so important ones. I'm gonna need some tutorials Anyway, thanks.
  12. Ok wow.. FL9 is really intimidating, but I want to learn it so bad. I just have a couple things right now that are really hindering my progress. First, when I open up a Piano Roll and create something, I often want to add plug-in effects. For example, I'm trying to add Reverb to a string piece right now, but it applies the reverb to everything.. not the strings only no matter what I try to do. How do I use plugins and tweak sounds without effecting every single sample? My second question is how do I add vibrato to a sample? Vanilla strings are just so.. bleh Thanks for ANY help Edit: If there's some sort of super great tutorial source, please direct me to it so I don't have to bug you guys =p Sorry but I couldn't find any tutorial sources on my own with good organization.
  13. Hey, another guy here who registered just to comment on your song. I have no idea what the judges would do with this, but I thought you should know that it's going on my iPod. It's a great listen. I listened to the source too and figured out that I would never put the source song on my iPod so for me you definitely turned a nostalgic song into a nostalgic and fun song. As a listener, there are a couple things that would have made it even a little better for me though. After the flute solo, when the drums came in, I was really getting into it and expected it to become even more energetic but instead it ended. I really think introducing an even more powerful and driving drum riff at the end would've been amazing. Introducing some strings somewhere would've been nice too. I could tells strings would feel at home in this song if you felt like adding them. To conclude.. I'm no regular, and I'm no composer, but I AM pretty selective with my iPod songs. I enjoyed what you've done here a lot.
