It's FM synthesis. An oscillator is fed into itself to modulate its own frequency with its amplitude. Increase that frequency, then add some waveshaping/distortion, a little detuning, and use multiple voices.
Thank you!
I'll try to make the sound with Massive's FM Mod Oscillator

I'm trying to make a bass similar to the one in these songs from Bear McCreary:
(00:22)(00:54)It's a layered bass with an awesome stereo effect.
I was able to synthesize its sub bass, but I'm having difficulties to make that top 'gritty' bass!
Does anyone know how to make such thing? Please?

Production isn't as strong though. Most instruments sound very mechanical, especially the guitar. Piano sounds very mechanical in its small solo section too...
Yeah, that might be because there's actually no post production yet, I wrote this sketch very fast, and with a different computer than mine, so I had to leave post-production behind and focused on the development of the track only.
I'll post produce and continue it on my computer as soon as I get home!

After a long time of silence, here I am, back on ocr forums!
I'm the guy who attempted production a couple of years ago by writing two Final Fantasy arrangements as a start, but they really weren't so good...
(You can find them here [FFVIII] and here [FFX])
I eventually left production behind for a while, but lately I started studying and applying it very seriously.
The following is a little sketch of a Zelda rearrangrment I wrote in the last two days. It's much higher level from my previous productions, but there's still much job to do... So I'd love to hear what you guys think about this sketch!

Hey guys, sorry if I keep asking things.
I was wondering how can I make the string-like sound that starts at the
?Thank you.
There is actually a Final Fantasy VIII soundfont with a sample of that in there. I think you can get it at Zophar's Domain. Thanks for the help, I found it

Hello everyone
I'm looking for a sound that I've heard plenty of times, but don't know how it's called, I just know it's a vocal sound that is heard in japanese songs (especially, in
and in Naruto's Soundtracks as well)Does anyone know a sample library/VSTi for these kind of vocals??

Your advices are all precious, thanks guys
I think I'll start by composing music I'd like to listen to, like SnappleMan said, and also experiment other genres when I get good at producing music.
I don't want to learn to produce music for economical purposes...
The reason why I want to make music is to spread messages all around the world in a language we all understand
-
Hey everybody, I've got a question for you
How did you figure out your music genre?
I'm attracted by alot of music genres and listen many of them all the time.
Now that I finally have the time,I want to start composing/remixing... but I don't know which genre to use.
How did you choose yours?
-
I bet we're all Uematsu fans out here, well, this make the winning chance really low, but I still wanna partecipate
-
I see
I would never had figured out those things myself, so thank you very much for your critiques, I really appreciate that
Now that I know where I'm lacking, I do know where to work on. And I will!

I love this source. My main trouble was with the piano (and whistle actually) being out of time. Whenever you play the ending phrase on the piano the one that goes A G F - semiquaver, semiquaver, quaver. Ugh, I wish you could embed sound or notation QUICKLY and easily. anyway, yeah, that phrase always sounds out of time and unconfident are you playing it in? If so quantise that part. The whole piano sounds just a tiny bit unconfident and at times a bit loose whilst the part is very staccato and needs to be in time.
Whilst i've never submitted anything and really haven't posted an Remixes here I wouldn't suggest posting something you're not confident will get through just to show you're here. That'll probably get you a bad rep.
I think you could add some drums to this - make them quite subtle but that might give it some energy - i would put them in perhaps halfway through at a new section.
Also if you're stuck for new material on this piece as you have only really changed up the instruments a bit. I'd suggest just playing the melody and seeing if anything else fits or do the opposite, play the accompaniment and see if you can fit a different melody over the top. try and expand on the melody or write a new section in the same kind of style as thunder plains.
These are my suggestions.
Thanks for your advices
The problem is that my laptop's not enough powerful to add more things to this piece, but I'm planning to get some new hardware, so I'll review it completely after I'll buy my new pc.
I wouldn't suggest posting something you're not confident will get through just to show you're here. That'll probably get you a bad rep.Damn, I was so optimistic and naive I didn't even consider that xD
I guess you're right, this is not the right one to begin with! (at least, for now..)

So I made up a few changes again, I softered the piano like Rozovian suggested me, and I added a fully wet-reverbered piano on the back.
I made some minor changes on the whistle too, and I increased the master volume, wich was too low before.
In some parts the piano and the whistle are still playing in unison, I haven't find an alternative melody yet, plus, it looks like I'm really near to the limit of my laptop's capacities, and you might notice that if you listen to the song carefully.. I wanted to add more things, like atmospherical effects sounds ('cause it's the Thunder Plains!) but I need a more powerful computer to do so.
The big lack in this one is that it's not really well-mastered, I've learnt so many things in a little time, but mastering is still kinda unkown to me (compressors and other stuffs, I'm just able to use equalizers xD).
This might sound you crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about submitting this one, although it's a 99% it will get a *NO*, it's still a good way to let the judges read my name at least once, 'cause I'll come back with better ReMixes until I'm not part of you OCReMixers!
-
Damn, guess I'm stuck again!
I need to find the choir that is used in this Ragnarok Online BGM,
, but I have no idea of this kind of choir's name, I think I heard it somewhere else too, does anyone knows the precise name of this kind of choirs?I'm really in need of it right now x_x

Lower the velocity on the piano for a softer sound (unless that's a single velocity-layer piano, in which case get a better one). The parts where the piano and whistling play in unison... shouldn't. I'd either change one of them to play a different melody entirely (probably something backing-y) or have them alternate playing the current melody and being backing for the other instrument.
Interesting idea, decent start. Keep it up.
I felt there was something wrong in the piano velocity, but I wasn't so sure, now that you confirmed that, I'll definitely lower it!
The piano & whistle unison is the proof of my low level skills in this field, infact I never thought of alternating them, I must try that out!
Thanks for your advices, Sir

I bought myself a pair of new headphones, and I noticed the big mistakes that were in this song x_x
I've tried to correct the whistle and the piano, and added some percs to make it better.. Now I want to add a permanent rain effect with thunders too, but I'm working on another project at the moment.

This is my favourite FF IX Remix of the site so far, and I've heard 'em all!
I think you should submit this

This might be the last update to my first attempted rearrangement, I don't have neither the skill, nor the knowledge to complete it in a good way, but I spent some hours on it, rebuilt it all by using the little skills I have acquired in these late months!
Imma leave this project like this for a long time I guess, 'cause I have other simpler projects in my mind right now!
The next one will be another FF8 track rearrangement, I think!

I need tubular bells so bad, I tried some synths or soundfonts, but I couldn't find anything good enough
Please help T_T

This is my second work, made with FL Studio.. Well, I haven't finished my first work yet, but I suddenly got the inspiration for this one, and I immediately wrote it down!
It's an arrangement of the Thunder Plains theme from Final Fantasy X in ambient style, or at least, that's the style I want to give to this song.
The funny thing is that I got the inspiration while I was whistling this song, I realized that a 'whistle version' of it would've been kinda cool, so I tried to make one myself and I managed to arrange it in ambient style.
The song's not complete yet, I should add something more to make it more tasty , and the ending's missing! (I still haven't figured out a possible ending for the song, actually..)
There's much work to do but I wanted to post a preview version for it, please leave me some comments! Even bad ones are well accepted, as you might've noticed I'm totally a novice in this field, I need some advices/critics from elders y'know
I prsonally think I should change that whistle synth, also, I need a mute triangle so bad, but I can't find one >_>
Source:
-
the problem with that is it will not sound realistic unless he use a certiant amount of resonance and revervb
I will!
I'm kinda new to all of these things, it's a new world for me.. but I've read some tutorials on this site and I'm starting to understand how these basiliar things work!
-
Depending on how picky you are and how into creating your own sounds you are, you could probably make a decent triangle sound with a filtered square or triangle waveform (or both), subtle LP filter closing, short amp decay and mid-sustain/release.
A muted triangle would just be shorter and more muffled. Could be done with a sample or with the synth suggested above.
^I'm gonna try this to make sure.
Thanks for the advice, anyway, good news! I just found a good open triangle sample, I just have to make a mute triangle by modifying this one, so I'll just have to make it shorter as you told me.. This work can be done on Wavepad, right??
-
I'm looking for a good Triangle (percussion) VSTi or soundfont, I need the both open & mute sounds, I've surfed the net in search of it, but I found only a mediocre soundfont..
Didn't want to ask help for this one,but.. x_x
Do you guys know any?
-
I'm afraid I'm not sure what it is that you're trying to accomplish, could you explain a little more in depth?
You see, this is what I want to do, and I can simply do it by double clicking the note I want to modify, but when I select more notes and double-click.. the 'Time' proprietes are not editable, so that I can't modify all the notes' duration at the same time, it can be done by clciking at the end of one note and dragging it, I know, but it's not that accurate

I read the whole guide and I wanted to say one thing!
Thank you.
Metal Gear Solid 2 - Skateboarding (Solo-Piano arrangement)
in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Posted
I made a little piano interpretation of Metal Gear Solid 2's Skateboarding track. I'm not a real piano player, though.
I decided to write it one evening to kinda challenge myself, wish I could actually play the piano!
Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys think about the track in terms of what it lacks/what's cool in it.
