  1. Thanks guys! Taking all the feedback directly to heart. This is why I love this site. <3

This thing can still go in many many directions, since as Calum said, we've only used a small fraction of the theme so far. Albeit, imo, possibly one of the best parts too. xD

It's not schizophrenic enough yet? Sweet! Give us more excuses to go totally nuts with this, hahaha. xD

I'll be sure to throw an update in here once it's worthy of being posted. Some of the newer additions don't quite stick with me, and I do want to do some of the EQing already to make it sound less cluttered/full. This is just something I usually do at the very end, so bear with me on that with the current version. :D

I'll make sure to give some TLC to the orchestral section too. More nods to FF7 themes, consider it done. There's already a really small nod to the battle theme and the FF13 battle theme in there too. But probably really hard to hear if you're not aware of it or looking for it. xD

    Thanks again guys!

  2. Well it sounds real good. The first thing, is that the already-accepted remixes of this song either had no vocals, re-recorded vocals, and there is one which had a special pass to use the original track. They may be okay with that, but they may not. Consider finding another source.

Really? I didn't know that. I did read about sampling being an issue a looong time ago I think, but to be fair, I'm not exactly sure this is OCR material to begin with. We'll definitely try subbing it though! I just want to make sure with all the help we can get, that this will be a solid mix that will be enjoyable to listen to, whether it's on OCR (preferrably lol), or other outside sources. :) And in my opinion this is the best place to look for that help. I love you guys and this community. <3

The changing styles REALLY helps this song, don't consider it a weakness, too many workshop remixes don't go anywhere once they start with a sound. Will it be longer, or are you just working on an ending for that spot? So far it's great. -edit- Oh, and also, I'm getting a lot more action out of the left than the right, but that may just be my ears. If everything is already equal, then disregard that.

That's very encouraging, thank you! My initial feeling after sleeping a night on it was that we kinda lost the "dark feel" the original has. I'm pretty sure we managed to capture a little of that essence in the first 45 seconds, but lost it after that. It's great to hear that you think the other styles add to it, rather than detriment from the feel.

Our mixes are always generally around 6-8 minutes, so this is definitely only the beginning, haha! I always do the balance checking near the end of the project cycle, but when I listened to it on my headphones earlier I didn't hear something like that. I'll look into it in the settings to make absolutely sure.

I just wanted to say I really like where this is going. This source has been done so many times before, it's great to see a refreshingly new take on the theme. I'm sure some won't like the liberal arrangement and all the different musical styles in there, but I personally love it. I'll try to come back in here and leave some detailed constructive feedback a bit later, but I just wanted to say up-front that I really like this. Nice work!

Thanks! That really does mean a lot to us. I think we (genesis and I) were both kinda anxious about this, for the reasons outlined in the OP so it's at least reassuring to hear positive feedback so soon.

I'm looking forward to your constructive feedback!

  3. The original has always intimidated me so much. Perhaps it's because it's held in such high regard, maybe it's because it's such an awesome source to begin with or it could be because previously I dont think Genesis (the other half of DigiE) or myself ever quite figured out how to approach it.

Now I'm already quite sure this raw attempt will raise quite a few eyebrows. Hopefully not too much dislike, though! The song seems to suffer from schizophrenia already, which is exactly why some feedback would be very helpful! One side of me thinks it may be a good thing since it's been remixed a lot, but not quite like this -- yet the other side thinks it may be too much, and it'd be better for it to have one (two, or three max) direction/s total. As it stands right now it has four/five music styles already in less than 2"30, which may be too crazy. Even for us.

EQ still needs a lot of loving also.

I hope you can help us get a more solid grip on this remix attempt!

Thanks in advance for both listening and for getting back to us, if you do. :)

  4. Well, for me it's not just about Mega Man at this point. That's just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Phoenix Wright fans have been given the shaft recently. It's quite possible we won't see this franchise outside of JPN anymore. Which saddens me greatly. Guess I'm going to have to learn Japanese at some point.

Resident Evil has been on a decline (subject to opinion, I preferred it when it had any kind of horror in it, something RE4 did still have at certain points) and while a spin-off, Operation Raccoon City is not helping the action approach the series has been favoring. I have my eye on Revelations though.

I'm not sure what's up with Monster Hunter. They're refusing to localize Portable 3rd overseas, and I hope that won't become a trend (like Phoenix Wright).

Devil May Cry used to be my favourite series (not just from Capcom). I'm not even sure what they're trying to do with DmC (aside from trying to troll 5 million copies off of consumers apparently), but this is subject to opinion as well. As it is now, the game plays horribly slow, with zoom effects and hit-slowdowns... it seems more akin Heavenly Sword than Devil May Cry. Which, I guess, is not all that surprising considering the developer.

Then there's the other things that have been piling up for years now. Mainly things like the lack of a new God Hand, Dino Crisis, Dark Stalkers, Onimusha, Power Stone, Strider, Clock Tower-- etc. They're just mainly focusing on their Fighting franchises right now (which are selling pretty good last I heard, so hey) and taking little risks. The whole within-a-year expansion of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is outrageous as well, if you ask me.

Though not to be a total downer, on the plus side dragon's Dogma looks good and CyberConnect2's Asura's Wrath looks badass as well.

  5. My main problem with DOA games, while being extremely fun to play, is that online favors the defensive player.

Ofcourse, that opens up a whole new line of strategy by trying to play unpredictable (quite a challenge for me back when I was really into DOA, I mained Jann Lee), but if they guessed right 4 times in a row I have to admit I started looking for my salt shaker.

Then there's a whole other issue of that cheating A.I...

The amount of times I got close to a 100 victories in survival and then... Well, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have experienced that.

The trailer looked really good though. I'm digging the influences to the environment, it really looks like it's part of the fight.

  6. I definitely blew two of my three fuses when I heard the After Burner remix, since I played that game a lot when I was younger. I promptly tracked that down on the soundtrack and had it on repeat for days.

I'm pretty much of opinion that the entire game is made of platinum win.

  7. The only serious downside from owning either system is that the games, regardless of either 360 or PS3, will cost you around $60 each, and that's just for the regular retail bought "new". How the flying fuck we accepted that no body knows... IW even tried to foist that shit pricing on PC gamers on the pc version.

Imagine living in Europe. Costs for videogames doubled when that freakin' Euro showed it's face! XO

I definitely agree though. Then again, if they're good games, I dont mind that much... <3

  8. I'm not much for the online world, to be totally honest, although I've a bunch of friends on Xbox Live. I LOVE Tales of Vesperia - I played it at a buddy's (I also love Tales of Symphona and Tales of the Abyss, both of which I own). And what you say is true, too - stuff is multi-platform, and usually fairly close one way or the other.

Then I think you'll be quite happy with a PS3, actually. I'll cross all my fingers for a nonJPN release for Tales of Vesperia then. All those new features sound really cool from what I've read - I wouldn't mind buying it again for the PS3 myself, to be honest.

Aside from that, PS3 costs more, so if you get that now, somewhere later down the line it'll be easier for you to pick up a cheap 360 somewhere! =]

  9. Well, I'm partial to the 360 (despite having it break over 7 times now, RROD etc, but don't let that scare you!) because of it's online service and interface.

Though the interface part is really a huge personal thing, I find it more smooth to work with than PSN XMB and wonky friendslist. But yeah, I play online a lot, and PSN just doesn't like me. Dropouts, lag, all that stuff.

These days most games are multiplatform anyway so I'd imagine a huge part is deciding if you're gonna play online a lot or not - though PSN is fine for a lot of people, not saying it's bad by any means, just bad for me.

Though, you mentioned Tales of Vesperia, and I logged 80+hrs into it and it's freaking fantastic. GET IT. GET IT YESTERDAY.

  10. I'm definitely guilty of that, I checked out the BlazBlue soundtrack before I bought it, but it's partially due to the fact I really like Daisuke's work overall. =]

But some games naturally have great soundtracks that I hear from friends so I check those out as well. Castlevania as you said is a very good example of that as well, really great music - sometimes (3D versions) even better than the games!

  11. Oh man I love this game.

I remember really getting into Devil May Cry 4 when it got out, and played the hell out of it but always felt like something was really missing, and considering almost nothing in the "stylish action" genre came out after that, I was left feeling half baked once I completely beat DMC4.

When I started playing this game however, everything I ever loved about action games and Devil May Cry / Viewtiful Joe / God Hand all came together in this game. I couldn't stop playing it, thinking about it, everything like that.

Games like this when done this well get me so amped to continue playing it, finding all the secrets, and getting high ranks to the best of my abilities and overall get better at understanding the game etc, I love it when games make me want to learn it (Street Fighter comes to mind in terms of wanting to learn the ins and outs). It was also very good to see lots of these secrets btw, some of these special weapons and the secret boss (tough mofo!) and the "blood palace" stage were great things to see 'return', even though it's an original title and all.

I can't recommend this game enough, even after finishing it 6 times I still want to go back and play it some more. =]

    EDIT:

Oh and I almost play exclusively with the Katana, I love charging and using dodge offset with it.

I usually keep the 'flame shoes' on secondary for dealing with opponents that need a little more nonsubtle beatdown. =D

  12. We (DigiE, shared account etc) fear this is sort of an overkill remix considering OCR Remixers have done such a fantastic job with the entire OST recently for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (And Sixto Sounds, AE & Prozax with the two fantastic Ken arrangements), but we figured we'd take our own stab at it because Street Fighter just simply rocks. And so does Ken's theme.

It's pretty much done and ready to be submitted at the moment, but it never hurts to check out what other people think, especially in the wake of the HD Remix project, it's hard to follow in those kinds of footsteps, especially footsteps made so recently! :)

    Anyway, here you go!

  13. Ok... I somehow doubt it, but would you happen to be NemisisTheory on Newgrounds? Because she made Bloody Tears: Castle of Tears on Newgrounds like.. 1-3 months ago, and this is the exact same song as the second version she made unless you did some mild changes. Even the running time is the same, however. Forgive me for my lack of trust, but I believe that that needs to be said.:!:

Other than that, I love this song. I've been listening to it for a while before it became available here, so the initial 'wow' is gone, but it's still an amazing and rather emotional remix.

    Hey!

I thought I'd respond to this post since it needs some clearing up. She's indeed part of the whole DigiE/Infinity Entertainment/Symphonic Storms (it's a long running--) 'thing' and we pretty much share our work on that NG page and here respectively. The thing is we only submit, what we think, is the best of our work since OCR deserves no less. So there's a lot more stuff on NG, and not that much on OCR (yet).

About the timeframe, there's no comparing the OCR qeue to the "press a button to submit" from NG, so the time it takes for it to pop in on OCR takes a while longer, if "YESsed". :)

Also it's great to see you guys like it. I know for a fact Sanjay (Genesis) loves to read reviews, and is easily excitable about feedback. ;)

  14. Holy Hell!

I'd never have expected this mix to pull through after trying so hard everytime (3 times in total), I kinda gave up on it. (This mix is like 4/5 months old!)

It's GREAT to see that people are enjoying it to this size, I honestly never expected it to work out like this. I am so friggin stunned right now.

Thanks everyone for those kind words, I'll make the next mix even better!
