  1. Huh... It appears that the quad post error tends to occur when editing an existing post?

Anyway... this mix. The arrangement is ace, and the variation is more than is expected with the genre. However, the EQ seems to be really lacking. There's not enough bass or treble, so everything sounds super-thin and distant. Otherwise, I'm loving this.

Also, I really appreciated the ska section at 1:26. :)

  2. The only thing I didn't dig about this mix was the time signature change, which is suspect is 5/4. *Listens again* Yeah, it's definitely 5/4. Anyway, the time change only really bugged me the first time I listened, and now that I understand how to bob my head to it, it's all good. Very nice work from the guy who consistentley provides very nice work.

I think I'm going to go watch Kill Bill. :)

  3. My track, Aviator Soul (Theme of Great Ace) is complete, and is only awaiting minor tweaks.

Comments on levels and balance are appreciated.

Florestan oboe has "bad" notes that stick out naturally, one of those notes being B flat. You have that note at around :52 and 1:00, I believe. It's midfrequencies screamed and came close to making me wince. It's easy to fix... if the oboe has it's own mixer channel, you can just curve the mids down with the equalizer that's right there on the mixer. You might even be able to automate it to lower the mids only when the B flat plays, but either way, I definitley think it needs to be fixed.

Nice reference to Green Greens in the horns at :20 and 2:35... very smooth. It's just a tad more subtle than mine 8)

I also think you should up the volume of the snare and percussion the last time the theme plays, to add emphasis. Everybody loves a loud final chorus :)

Other than those minor things, this is great work. I especially love the solo voice and moving cello lines. Gooood stuff.

  4. I'm having a spell of un-inspiration, so mine might just end up being the main theme run though, the tribal drum segment, synth blues scale solo, main theme variation. I'll see what happens and try to get the "final" version uploaded soon.

    Starbound (Theme of Dream Warrior)

Not my absolute best work, but probably my most creative as far as instrumentation goes. The somewhat lackluster flow and structure comes from my said inspiration deprivation, so I needed to complete this and move on. It's finished in my mind, but I'll make any changes you feel are needed.

Too many changes from the last version to discuss, so just listen to it.

Edit: This is basically the final version. I do have two TINY tweaks I want to make, so I'll update with the final final version tomorrow.

  5. AB - I love your mix :D really cool stuff indeed!

chth - I have a suggestion to make: Start the song with a note that falls on-beat. Otherwise it gets confusing, and people start to think that the bridging note is actually the main one, and their sense of timing is thrown of by a beat. Otherwise, your mix is sounding promising :) I look forward to hearing more ^^

    If you can't pick out a pickup...well...:(

I still need to make the velocity of the pickup note softer, and I might make use of a reverse cymbal. The downbeat should be much clearer after that.

Okay, so Ellywu2 let me know he dropped, so I'm taking that track, unless anyone else wants it.

Hmm... do you think I could toy with a WiP and see if I get something substantial for Dream Warrior? At any rate, I'm going to start on it, whether I get the slot or not. I'll get a WiP up and you can let me know if you want me to complete the track.

  7. Aww, But I liked it when it was A... no seriously, I think "Rise of a Star" sounds much better, but if you don't plan on changing it for anything, whatever.

I still feel good for at doing something for the project, considering the compatability issue regarding my track (I got a 3.88 this semester... go figure). Keep it up, everyone. I'm looking forward to this release.

  8. Celestial Evolution

    Kirby's Adventure ReMix Project

I couldn't think of "Celestial" before. It's a much better word.

    I beat you

I said that one on page 12 or something. I still think it's a good one. Considering how significant the stars are in the Kirby games, "Celestial" seems to fit perfectly. It rolls off the tongue, too. No, really. Say it.

    So, there's my idea... again.

  9. Hmm... maybe I could do an orchestral-techno hybrid, similar to Dan's recent take on Hyrule Castle. That might get the epic feel you were talking about, and the tempo would also be faster. I think the main problem lies in the happy nature of the melody itself, and transforming it into what you are describing sounds like it will take a lot of work.

Not to mention the fact that I may have to leave the project for six weeks because of my grades. You might want to have a backup mixer ready in case the grounding does happen, and if it does, I'm really sorry.

Anyway, if anyone has some really good string and orchestra samples, please bestow them unto me... most of mine are only sub-par; especially the brass.
