  1. Yeah, the name thing has been throwing me off, too. I knew M. Night was directing Avatar (Airbender version), then I heard James Cameron was directing it and there was all of a sudden a great excitement for it. It was confusing until I saw the E3 conference and realized he was talking about something completely different from Airbending when he mentioned "vehicles."

If the E3 conference is to be believed, the video game for this movie is being developed concurrently with the movie itself so it won't suck like 99% of other movie-license games (Goldeneye manages to snag the 1%, as always).

Either there's a good marketing department at work or people are looking forward to Cameron doing something really awesome.

As for the Airbender version, M. Night Shyamalan is good when his talents are kept in check. There are areas where M. Night excels as a director (treating children as "young people," for example; Spielberg is the only one I recall doing a better job at this) and places where he sucks pretty hard (suspense is a biggie; he got lucky in Sixth Sense and Signs and has wrecked later movies with poorly-done moments of "tension" that are a little boring).

I think he could make a great kid's film, significantly better than what's coming out now. Since the Fire Nation is a very concrete "bad guy," the issues we've been seeing in other Shyamalan films will hopefully be less troublesome.

As far as to why the name thing has been confusing a lot of people is because of what happened. When the announcement was first made that The Last Airbender was going to be made into a full length movie, they were just going to name it Avatar. Well Cameron wanted to take them to court over the use of the name. So to kill the confusion, they renamed it to just "The Last Airbender".

  2. A zero-gravity FPS, where you jump/push off from surfaces, flying in a straight line with near-accurate physics. Recoil can and does affect your path a bit, and explosions will send you flying across the environment. There is no up or down, only the plane you are currently orientated to. Make it a mining facility, and everything is all mine-ish. That does not include excessive use of brown, because that is lazy design.

To prevent easy kills, there will be no sniper weapon. In fact, weapons will be basic and limited. Basic melee weapon, basic short range weapon, basic long range weapon, and a basic explosive weapon. I'm thinking some sort of mining ax with a rope on it, so you can use it to pull yourself towards surfaces (possible use: wrap it part way around an object, and then pull yourself in. Once you get to the object, your momentum will will make you continue forward, but the rope will make you turn in the other direction). The short range will be a small flare gun modified to shoot rivets. The long range will be a hand-made laser rifle, but it will only shoot a single beam once every five seconds. You can see the beam as it's firing, giving away your position. The bomb will have two modes: timed throw, and remote detonation, with a two second warning.

The idea is that with limited control over your movement, and weapons that require some consideration before use, you will have to either be really fucking sneaky or really quick on your feet.

    How's that?

:nicework: I could play that almost forever.....

  3. Now THAT'S a concept I can get behind, 100 per cent... just as long as they aren't all based on the games that are light on story, like Pac-Man or something like that.

Actually, come to think of it, wasn't there a Pac-Man cartoon show at one point or something? Maybe that's just something my overactive imagination created in my head, but I could've sworn I once saw an episode of a show like that.

You are correct sir. There was a Pac-Man cartoon that ran for about 2 seasons from 82-84. Cartoon Network would show the Christmas episode every year. Now Boomerang shows it every year.
