  1. That song was horrible.

Sorry you guys couldn't understand me (Starblast: "It sounds like he's talking around a mouthful of cock. KNOB SLOBBER KNOB SLOBBER"); it was late, and I had to talk quietly so as not to wake up my parents.

Also, I do think in odd time signatures when writing originals. It is another matter entirely to figure out the time signature of a polyrhythmic piece by simply listening to it. Three bars of 4/4 and one of 5/8 was just a guess.

    And I wasn't stoned, I swear. s.gif

  2. I really like the general flavor of this mix. As Darke said, I'm not fond of the slight artificiality of the flute/pipe with the melody, though the harmony is very reminiscent of the style set by the game. The syncopation and rhythm juggling is very cool; more people should do that. What I really dislike is the snare sample; while I can see why you chose it (it's reminiscent of the original style, like the harmony), it's far too powerful for the mood you've set. If it were lighter and shallower sounding, it would mesh better and not distract quite so much.

And like everyone else said, I'd like it to be longer. I can see a great deal of possible varation that wasn't explored. It could easily be four or five minutes.

    Yes! Finally! An SD3 mix!

    It's not the only one.

  3. Okay... I like the dark mood, and I have a weakness for complex piano lines. However, the ostinato (basic structure D-A-D'-Bb-G-A-Bg-G-A) continues throughout the entire four minutes. While its initial introduction lends incomparable power to the ambiance, the repitition seems to me to drag the piece down. I would have suggested mixing it up in any of the following ways:

    - Bringing it to the fore in the mix again, with added complexity (flourishes, intermediate pitches between the main arrival points)

    - Adding some modulations (standard ones, like taking it into C, F and/or Bb major, as opposed to D minor, and some more drastic, Wingless-style ones, like Ab).

Ostinato lines are all well and good, but longer ones work better than shorter ones. This one is only one measure and needs change to lend the piece direction.

Like this. Bear in mind that this is very basic, low quality, and merely a suggestion as far as how I would do it at one point in the song.

Also, some of the fills in the drum pattern irked me as well. The fill in the third bar of each phrase seemed to me that it would work better in the fourth bar. This is a minor, and probably personal, concern. I like the overall sound of the kit you used.

In all, this is solidly constructed. The occasional dissonance lends a more sinister aspect to the melancholy you've already established. Good show. Those were my only two concerns.

  4. Zircon, you've probably heard of Florestan; they have an excellent Aaaaaaaaah choir soundfont (I think it's just Aaah or Aah). The to half is female, lower half is male; by itself it doesn't sound so great, but it's the kind of sample that can be EQed to perfection because it is neither too bright nor too dark. I don't have a link to Florestan, but it's one of those sites that isn't too hard to find.

Also, there's some really good stuff at the Bananaquartz site that Agonotheta posted.

  5. 1. Euphonium.

    2. Marching percussion.

I would love that more than anything. A nice, dark, clear, echoing Besson Prestige Euphonium for a soundfont. I would sample myself playing it if I had the hardware to do it.

    I'd sample it myself if:

    - I had the hardware.

    - The euphonium players around here had good tone.

    - The euphonium players around here had more intelligence than pebbles.

  6. I agree - the intro takes too long to build. I can see where you're coming from, but a little more variety earlier on (i.e. building chords in synth strings/pad) may have lent it strength.

Beyond that, this is excellent trance. It's mellow, and I like the use of piano in electronica. It isn't as powerful as it could have been, but this certainly isn't a bad thing. The piece's only real fault is repitition.

  7. BOA Rice Stadium, Houston: 7th of about 30

UIL, Alief Stadium: Division I (no ranking)

Lone Star Preview, Woodlands: 4th of about 15

Super Regional BOA Alamodome, San Antionio: 10th of 57

Our show sucked this year, and we're too poor to go to State two years in a row.

And, actually, my return is a false alarm. Just got slapped with a concert. The following weekend I've got a theatre tournament. The gods conspire against us, Liontamer. :?

  8. Um, you people are all obnoxious and embarrassing. I was really sorry and ashamed I even tried to call in. So, thanks.

    [/drama]

Yes. Darke, Succubus and I tried to get you all to shut up, but you never listened.

What the fuck. What. The. Fuck. It was not a bad interview. I enjoyed her music as well. The show was designed for remixers to be able to call in and be interviewed. The way you assaulted her was pointless and sickening.
