  1. Ah, FFA has one of my favorite OSTs, so I'm already inclined to like any remix of it.

What you've got here sounds really promising already. Everything before the fade-out sounds really nice, but that fade-out... is it going to be in the final product as well? I really suggest you find some different transition for that part because it doesn't work (for me, that is!) at all.

The rest of the song sounds good production-wise but it also seems like it doesn't know where it's heading. There's no build-up or anything.

But this is a WIP so I'm anxiously awaiting the next version! :)

  2. First of all: Your link is broken! The actual file is "Red Eye Repose.mp3."

As for the remix itself. It takes a little too long to get interesting, IMHO. The first 2 minutes seem like a really long intro.

After that, it's pretty nice! I like the chilly, relaxed mood.

My biggest gripe would be that weird loop that loops through basically the whole song unchanged and is panned all the way to the right (or so it seems). I don't know how to describe that instrument; it sounds like a drum, but it plays a little melody. It gets annoying very quickly though, since it doesn't ever change.

  3. This is a nice start! Even though in the beginning it is very "...and the next loop starts...and the next loop starts...and the next loop starts..." if you know what I mean?

But I like the style and the samples used. In the part after the intro it also deviates a little from the original composition, which is good!

The high-pitched bells in the beginning are a bit grating on the ears, they could be a little softer.

I don't know what else I could say. Try making it wackier! It IS Katamari after all. :)

  4. Has anyone found a way to move your channels around on the main menu? What I'd really love is if all the VC games from each console fit into a single grouped channel, which you could then select and choose a game within that channel. Much more tidy and space effective.

If you press B+A you can drag channels around (just like the Miis in the Mii Channel) and sort them. Only the disc channel (top-left) can't be moved.

  5. I really dig the composition, but the previous posters are right about the samples, especially in the beginning with all the organs. They sound really bad. Later in the part with the flute it sounds a lot better, quality wise. But there's still room for improvement.

I'd also like some more varied (reggae?) percussion.

Anyway I have been waiting forever for someone to remix this favorite game of mine, I will check back on this thread for updates and send you a dead horse's head if you take too long!

  6. Ok here goes:

And my favorite "Gna! Gnaa!!" :D

P.S.: Excuse the crappy quality. I wish there was a way to save screenshots with the Wii.

  7. Hey, welcome back!

    Checking out your remix now...

Wow, really nice! Very catchy rhythm, it's very salsa-like (or something like that, I'm not sure).

I think the samples are alright, although the brass sounds a bit tinny. I agree with most of the other suggestions. Do something about the hi-hat and add some more low-frequency stuff to get an overall warmer sound.

The intro (first 38 seconds) definitely needs some more variation, so far it's just too "loopy".

Anyway, this is good stuff and with some adjustments absolutely worth submitting!

  8. The original is one of my favorite songs! I already loved it back when SML was released.

Anyway, this is sounding quite good already!

But a bit empty at times and the strings could use some work.

As for the transition to electronica: go for it!

I recommend you listen to some of zircon's remixes, since you seem to be going for a similar style. Download his 2 newest Chrono Trigger remixes.

  9. I saw a PS3 at the Leipzig Games Convention and I must say... it is even more humongously huge than I imagined.

Put two original PS2 units next to each other and one slimline PS2 on top and you've basically got the PS3.

And you can't even use it as some kind of expensive noisy coffee table because it has a curved surface.

...the games do look quite impressive though!

  10. The underground bit is really nice!

The transition to the second part is too harsh. A quick crossfade just doesn't cut it here, the parts are too different.

Also, in the second part the section before the flute starts and only the weirdinstrumentIcan'trecognize plays, it goes on for too long and the track of that instruments repeats too much and also seems too loud.

The general vibe of the second part is pretty cool as well though.

I am eager to hear the next version! Super Mario Land is seriously under-remixed.

  11. I noticed something odd about projects like this one:

Very few remixers post their WIPs in the WIP forum.

Is there a specific reason for that?

Because I think you would get much more feedback that way and the thread would be less cluttered.

That way, there would be only "new WIP"-announcements and discussion on the project itself in this thread.

(Note: I posted this very same post in the SSF2 thread, I hope you aren't offended by my blatant across-topics-double-post™ )
