Oh, HELLZ no.
"Old, popular Nintendo phrase"? "In addition to Nintendo's use"?
I've only ever heard it ONCE in the 90's: Ice Cube's "
", first line. Nobody cared then, and it damn well didn't rise to any level of "pop culture" in 1992. Sad that they have even a slight chance of approval. -
...I don't know how you can even argue against the idea that SotN changed the series utterly....
I didn't argue in either direction.
Some get sick of the "Met-vania" stuff and it's understandable, but I just draw the line at this apparent resentment toward the all-time classics. Trying to deny their status like that just ain't right.
-
...there are those of us out there that are just passionate. I feel the same way about the CastleVania series... which has yet to really do me wrong....
Funny you mention: I've seen it happen with Castlevania, and it's kind of a sad development. It's referred to as "Metroid-vania" now, and some are actually blaming "Symphony of the Night" for taking it in this direction. I shake my head and move on.
The most vocal opposition is likely not true fandom, sorta like those who scream about how much they hate the Simpsons, but watch every new episode so they can come online and tell you how much it sucked. The type who can't wait to be first in a thread with the most tired, most unoriginal snide comment against the franchise before actual discussion begins. Positive opinion is ignored and/or dismissed, and the revisionist history continues.
There is such a thing as passion to a fault, however. I don't have much faith in the collective fandom to look at any of these titles with an open mind anymore. Saddest part is, I came to this conclusion in 2004. I also knew the fans wouldn't accept any liability for this one: are we pretending the "Needlemouse" poll didn't exist now? Did they or did they not utilize fan feedback?

Did anyone bring up yet how fangames can develop over several years without any kind of deadline, and the team adds tweaks and improvements "whenever they get to 'em" and it'll be released "whenever it's released so stop asking"? Not to mention we usually forgive everything in a fangame and nothing in a professionally developed one. Not saying this happened with S4 and the 'remix' thing, but I'm willing to bet the fan title would be declared a lot closer to "suck" if Sega did release it.
EDIT: Oh, and quoted from the Sonic Retro article:
I, along with many other members of the community, have been beta testing this game for a few days and we’ve caught a few of the issues lingering in the demo. Pelikan has released this project a bit ahead of schedule and has yet to correct everything that we’ve given back to him. If you find an issue with the project, don’t hesitate to air it. It will only make a great project even better.Less relevant in the age of downloadable patches, but still worth mentioning.

I thought I out-Vin'd everybody by now.

Of course, people who've met me know this about me.

I am not too fond of the synths used for these games as they sound pretty strident.
Full agreement on Spinball. A regrettable pile of noise in that one, even though the music was decent to me, especially "Lava Powerhouse."

Just curious: I'm wondering if many of the "ear-screech" opinions were the result of listening to Genesis chiptunes or emulators instead of an ACTUAL Genesis? SPC's can sound almost exactly like a real SNES, but the FM in the Gen formats are pure and unadulterated, as opposed to the warm (almost too warm) Genesis hardware output. Big difference IMO. That's why I rip my tunes from the original machine, and why I need to look for carts of Moonwalker and Incredible Hulk.

Also known as "Apple vs. Orange, the Armageddon".
When it was used well, it was pretty damn AWESOME.Pretty much goes for every sound chip. No one complained about the NES stuff, which worked off the same technology, had less to work with, but also had no real console competition, while the state of the art in console sound synthesis was apparently no match for cheap, quickly looped samples. Of course, this comparison of two completely different sound technologies was just another excuse to dump on the opposing console. You had to be almost a professor in sound design to get great results out of a Genesis, and you usually had to go into major megabit territory to get good enough samples on the SNES side. For every Genesis Street Fighter II, I give you SNES Thunder Spirits. Either can fail if you don't put the work in.

Wow, five whole minutes for the snidest, most obvious comment to appear? Things are looking up.

A few from my older faves that come to mind....
Thunder Force IV:
Rolling Thunder 2:
Later, same video:
And I remember this one because Pezman asked me to transcribe this madness to MIDI once... from Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake:

GOING! The plan so far is to room with Dyne and others.
Before we continue,
the word from bgc and Brendan is to
decide very quickly if you're going, and then
GET PRE-REGISTERED ASAP!!,
because it's likely they're going to fill to
capacity again, and anyone still putting off
might miss out. Don't be one of those people.

Well, just look at the youtube poop phenomenon (represent) in regards to Volvic bottled water. Volvic LOVES how many people made parody videos regarding Volvic Revive, because for them it's free advertising.
You should know that's not the same thing. Parody is much closer to fair use than complete original content.
...this wouldn't matter if the standard wasn't so completely ham-handed and pick-and-choose... Youtube has NEVER had its shit together...Disregarding the irrelevant stuff about how they operate, you're assuming it's completely up to them. We're talking billions of people on this planet; it's impossible to enforce anything consistently. More likely, they simply wait for enough complaints, then take action. It can happen anywhere, at any time. It may yet happen to OC ReMix... one day an arrangement might not get off. Like Dave said, 'knock on wood'. It may yet happen to me... I deal in small excerpts, not whole films, but that's no guarantee either. I have two videos with claims on them (another vid's claim later disappeared), and they get ads. I happen to like that solution, because before they'd just be removed altogether. I give youtube some credit.

My "no fear" update:
Because I'm finally confident I'll be rolling to a finished track on deadline. Trying to coordinate with zyko now on some lyrics.

"Mexican Flyer", by Ken Woodman and His Picadilly Brass, became the influence and inspiration for most of Space Channel 5's soundtrack, but that means it probably couldn't be done here, because it was an original track released decades ago, and obviously not for a videogame. As for the rest, I'm dying to do something from the game, so this has my endorsement.
PS: "Coco*Tapioca" is my JOINT!
-
I can vouch for the epic stories.

Any news? :/
Funny you should mention...
My track was officially COMPLETED about 15 minutes ago,
and I'm slow-rendering a final right now.
One down, several more to go.

...I'm fully aware that hip-hop has been sampling other songs since the beginning of time, but this is flat-out ridiculous...
Go figure: after reading this and before following the link, I thought to myself, "c'mon, can't be worse than Puffy's 'I'll Be Missing You'..." turns out I was right. The punchline is that Sting endorsed it, and even performed it with them at least once.

Seizing your opportunities is what it's all about.
Sucks for us, but Taucer's always full of win.
I'm gonna call this the 'Serious Monkey Business Curse' and wish you and Wes the best of luck.

The audio used seems to have come from the work of a certain other "video editing" maven:

...I use my Sega Saturn USB controller. It's pretty much perfect for anything that's not 3D.
^ That one.

I should make it, but my worry is not being able to stay too long before leaving for home. I'll decide what to contribute when I arrive at the O tomorrow morning.
