  1. As many of you may know, Monday (before 1PM Pacific) Is the last chance to add credit to the original Wii Shop. As someone who produces a video game music radio show, I'm attempting to maximize value by picking up games with sound tests (I prefer commercially released soundtracks, but that isn't always viable). Therefore, highest priority goes to games that:

-Do not have a readily available commercial soundtrack for (at least that version of) the game. In other words, games where a soundtrack has either never been released, or the soundtrack is out of print and horribly expensive.
-Have not been re-released on other platforms (or have, but those versions have significant sound issues
-A physical version of the game would be significantly harder/more expensive to come by

I figure this might be a good thing to crowdsource. Here are a few I came up with:

    Pulseman
Earthworm Jim (Genesis version-PC version on GOG has CD music)

  2. Every year for my site, I try to do an April Fool's article regarding Pokemon, usually involving music in some way (for example, last year I made up a fake tracklist for an "Epic Rap Battles of Pokemon" compilation). This year, I'm planning on writing a fake article about Hitmonchan being cut from the Wii Punch-Out game (I figure this is my last chance to use this gag since the game was just released on the Wii U eShop). I have a rough outline involving a "Nintendo Circuit" that was planned for the game but reduced down to just DK for the final version. To cap it all off, I'd like to make the story more musical by having a version of the Punch-Out theme redone to sound more like music from the original Pokemon Game Boy games, similar to what was done with the other fighters in the Wii Punch-Out game. My idea is that it would start off with the traditional Pokemon "battle alarm" sound, then go into the Punch-Out melody. Throughout the mix, we'd sprinkle in some Pokemon sound effects and perhaps some brief passages from the battle music.

P.S. If anyone could do some original art in the style of the pre-fight slideshows in the Wii Punch-Out game, that'd be a great bonus.

  3. It looks pretty cool, I'm definitely putting it on my wish list. Is it a pretty good amount of content for the price?

I've only scratched the surface, but it should keep you busy for a while, depending on how much time you spend trying to improve your times. If you get in to it, I'd assume at least 5 hours.

  4. NES Remix is really cool. Think of it as a cross between WarioWare and Nintendo World Championships. Basically, there are timed challenges from a variety of games where you're placed into a level with a specific task. The faster you complete the task, the more stars you earn (up to 3 per challenge), and more stars unlock more challenges.

  5. (Mods-I wasn't sure where to put this-sorry if this isn't the right place, but it is gaming related)

    Notes:

    -Song is referring to this.

-For the unaware, "Nihon" is the Japanese word for Japan (much like how "Deutschland" is the German word for Germany).

    Ode to Arino

Parody of “Angry Video Game Nerd Theme” by Kyle Justin

With new lyrics by Steven Reich

He’s gonna take you back to the past,

To play the classic games he #*! at

    He’d rather fight a buffalo

Than watch Dhalsim getting punched in his ear

He’s gonna fall for every trap hole

If you think he's sunk, I guess you're new here

It’s the gamiest center you’ve ever heard,

    He’s the Nihon Nintendo nerd

He’s the Nihon Konami Sega nerd

He’s the Nihon video game nerd

Don’t you turn off your TV

He’s gonna make it-wait and see!

Arino’s thumbs may hurt, he may break a sweat

Although he’s cornered our guy will never back down

He’ll grab a cooling pad, no he ain’t done yet

Armed with his helpers he will take these games down

It’s the gamiest center you’ve ever heard,

    He’s the Nihon Nintendo nerd

He’s the Nihon SNK Capcom nerd

He’s the Nihon video game nerd

He brings the worst game of all time

    Pitiful annihilations blow my mind

But when he starts each marathon, he says:

    Arino: GameCenter CX! Kacho-On!

From eight on up to sixty-four bit

This show is huge you know it’s a hit

Where did he learn to swim?

Why can’t he land a plane?

What were they thinking when they gave him this game?

    His strategy’s always wrong

    Let’s help him get along

Come on now ADs go do your thing!

It’s the gamiest center you’ve ever heard,

His game #*! so bad-hey watch out for that bird!

He’s the genkiiest most retro gaming nerd

He’s the Nihon Irem Namco Tecmo Sunsoft Hudson Soft

Sony Neo Geo Falcom Quintet Data East Vic Tokai Game Freak Nintendo Nerd

He’s the Nihon video game nerd

Background: I wrote this song for a presentation in my Japanese night class. At some point I plan on recording it.

  6. Yeah, I agree, the music in this series is a bit underrated (then again, I'm probably biased). Anyway, The song's not bad, but there's nothing in there that really grabs me either. One thing that might help is if you could incorporat some of the elements from the subsequent "Temporal Spire" track. Specifically, you could add a ticking sound as a drum sample. I'd also like to hear some type of sound similar to when you suddenly stop a record player (use it sparingly though, or else it will make the mix too cheesy), perhaps between sections of the song with brief silence thereafter.
