  1. I didn't see this on any search (unless I accidentally missed a thread), so I'm putting up a new request.

There's some PHIV up here already, but what I'm really looking for is a ReMix of "Laughter" (the battle with Lashiec/Zio). It'd be past awesome if somebody could pull it off, not that it's overly complex or anything but it is pretty hardcore. Yarghtube link below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFgpWnamW_M

PS I'd recommend finding an VGZ file or something to listen to from rather than this if you can. The sound quality of the YT uploads is pretty crappy, even on this one.

  2. Or you could buy the GCN version of Mega Man Anniversary Collection for 15-20 bucks and have all 8.

Never mind the fact that some of the games got seriously butchered, of course. ... Bah. Who am I kidding? Yeah, I got a copy of the Mega Man AC for PS2 (not GC). Despite all the glitchy crap and missing stuff, it's still a keeper, though why anyone would want GC versions of the original or X collections at all is beyond me... (infernal GC controller).

  3. M'kay. The last request I checked reminded me of two beauties that have so much potential but get so little coverage, namely the Skull Fortress and Skull Station tunes from Mega Man for the Game Boy (aka Dr. Wily's Revenge). Personally, I think their potential for a medley remix (or something close to it) are simply staggering. Hopefully there's someone out there who thinks the same. Thanks for looking. ^_^ Videos are below.

NOTE: The tunes I'm talking about are the first stage musics in each video. Unfortunately, the 2nd vid kinda cuts off the beginning of the Skull Station tune, but if you listen a bit longer, you'll be able hear it all. (Never mind that this guy can't play the game worth squat either...)

  4. True. There was some very interesting and unique tunes from that game that go largely unnoticed, of which Crash Man (mispelled in-game as Clash Man) probably is the best.

I think the reason it goes unnoticed is due to the horrendous way the chipset sounds in that particular game, which is odd because it sounds just fine in Dr. Wily's Revenge. (/me shrugs) Either way, this is definitely a tune worth doing.

  5. Awesome! I am simply dumfounded how good you are at this. Simply amazing dood.

Now if only you could do Gyges, Will You Please Help Me and A Field For Mag. You've done such astounding work with just the previous three tunes that I can't even imagine how awesome those would sound. :-D

As for Return Me To Savara, it just goes to show why I love the tune so much. Thanks a million. ^_^

  6. Ah. I had no idea this was in Mega Man X2. Are the MP3s you uploaded ripped straight from the game? Also, I have no idea what XG is. Sorry...

S'alright, I probably should've explained it better. No they aren't rips. They're actually midis from VGMusic. Thing is that I recorded them as I played 'em back through more capable hardware/software than your standard MicroSoft drivers, so that's why it sounds so much better.

FYI, the XG softsynth is an old standard for midi playback that's made by Yamaha. Unfortunately, Yamaha doesn't much support the software itself any more nor does the old software work with Vista either. There's some stuff you could use for playback, but the setup process is a bit convoluted. Alternatively, the only stand-alone player that can do it is MidRadio Player, but it's Japanese-only.

  7. Anyways, here's my version of Rock Garden:

    http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/157709

Holy smack! *saves* Dood! So totally sweet! Hot! Hot! Hot! *starts headbanging*

Epic can't even describe how awesome this is! I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! :-D :-D :-D :-D

It's terrible that OCR couldn't accept these. There's a lot of great stuff in the archive, but still many can't touch the level of greatness this achieves. It's simply astounding.

[edit]Holy toledo! Return Me to Savara?!!! No way!! That's my favorite tune from the game! Please send me a link! (PM'd you if you didn't get this.)

  8. You do realize that's just a 4 channel GB version of the Sigma Stages 1 & 2 theme from Mega Man X2, right? I could make a sound recording if one of 'em sounds decent in XG. They'll end rather abruptly (as do most midis), but at least it's better than the alternative.

[edit]Actually, only two of 'em really sound good in XG, so I'll do them both and post the links when I'm done.

[edit]Sorry. Trying to do too many things at once. Two are just straight recordings, though my computer is cutting off one for whatever reason... =/ I cut down one and did a fadeout, though it's probably not very good. Fortunately, one has enough loops that you could probably open it up in an editor and do a fadeout yourself. Sorry I'm not very good at editing.

  9. I had to vote for the last option only because my option wasn't on the list, and that's that ... *yawns* ... blogs are boring. ~_~ And I do say this despite the fact that I've posted to freeby blogs (albeit extremely occasionally), but the point is this... people are eventually gonna just use this feature to post off-topic blurbs or try to post "unmoderatable" rants.

If the staff really want to deal with 'at, then that's all well and good so long as it's just optional, but is it really even necessary? We already have places on the boards for that kind of stuff, so what's the point? And for WIP/game interests, hasn't anybody ever heard of the "search" function? Or how about just making a new relevant thread? It just seems like much ado about nothing.... *eyeroll*

I suppose if it's just a free or pay-for option for those that really want to go for it, then whatever... let people blow their money on it for what it's worth. Other than that, you can count me out of it.

  10. You know I've never really liked Evangelion all that much. I always thought the context and story were rather pathetic in all honesty. In truth, I appreciated Martian Successor Nadesico in areas where I did not enjoy Evangelion - good story and cool characters. The only thing I ever appreciated about Evangelion were the action scenes. The ending, on the other hand, was just plain stupid.

Also, is it just me or does anybody else get sick of all the whiny characters in Evangelion? At least in Nadesico the only whiny character was Akito, though he eventually works his way out of it for the most part.

  11. More frequently (at least until done):

Gradius Collection (PSP) - Recent addition. Played the old games a bunch, so this is a blast as always.

Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (GB) - Finally grabbed a copy of this game recently. Moderately fun.

    And more infrequently:

Fatal Fury Battle Archives, Vol. 2 (PS2) - The Real Bout games. Good old stuff to play now and then.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GC) - Still trying to get A-Ranks on everything, but I just get so dang lazy. Stupid, boring game...

Mega Man: Powered Up (PSP) - I can't believe that after a 1-1/4 years, I'm still bothering to try and clear all the crap in this game from time to time.

  12. "So I locked on a heat seeker on him and BOOM! Turned him into kitty litter!"

    -Maniac, Wing Commander III

Heh, heh. Totally forgot that one. Shotglass from WCI had some pretty good lines too.

"Now you've done it, Roger Wilco."

-Message that you done fucked up in space quest.

I always felt the "pantload" one was better (I mentioned that one earlier, didn't I... I hope....).

I did just remember another few though:

"How's that? I'm the Satan of Martial Arts."

    - Joe Higashi (KOF '98 )

    A few from Full Throtte:

"Warning! Do not play in or around dumpster. Do not kick dumpster. Do not sleep in dumpster. Usage of this container for the disposal of human remains, may be in violation of local health ordinances."

    - sign by the dumpster in Full Throttle

(looking through the landfill operator's basement window)

"Either someone's doing some welding down there, or we're talking about some very sub-code wiring."

    - Ben

(Ben) "I heard you saved my life."

(Miranda) "Yeah, but don't worry. I wasn't trying to. I was just looking for some nice roadside disasters photos, and you helped."

(Ben) "Who'd want a picture of me bleeding?"

(Miranda) "It's not the blood, it's the way you were all twisted up like a pretzel."

    - a quick conversion between Ben and Miranda in Melodweed (yes, Melonweed)

    And ever better:

(Sam) "My little buddy here needs to use the facilities."

(Max) "Facilities be damned! I need a bathroom!"

    - Sam and Max (Sam & Max: Hit the Road)

PS Might think of some more later.

  13. *sighs*

Suppose I should post this, not that it probably matters. I don't play any more anyway, but here we go:

Piano - 11 years (though I should probably say 10; my first teacher sucked but that only lasted for a year; others were infinitely more competent)

Saxophone - 8 years (+ taught; classical and jazz)

Clarient - 4 years (self taught, but natural derivation of the former; easy peasy)

Harpsichord - here and there for 4 years; some taught, some not; I also understand the style, though enough people don't

(listen to that one Tetris remix for an example of how NOT to play a harpsichord; it sounds cool, but it's completely wrong)

Carillon - off and on; remarkably fun and amusing to hear; playing VG tunes that a whole campus hears from, like, a mile around is awesome

Organ - here and there for several years; also great fun; and yes, I know how to foot pedal right >_>

I've always thought that music is a hell of a lot of fun and that's the only reason for me to play it really. Jazz combos are awesome. I've also had about 5-6 years of jazz theory (in addition to 10 years general music theory) from various sources. Nice but often useless for me since I don't really play anymore (not for any audience at the very least; that's for sure).

Also a hoot are jazz band competitions. Didn't do great in middle school, but in high school my class won our state division 3 years running. Great fun despite the stupid monkey suites. That high school jazz band (incl. me) also did a fair bit of big band gigs for various functions (school, graduations, etc... even a paid hotel gig once; fun). Can't beat some good ol' jazz. Well... I suppose you could, but where's the fun in that. ^_^ My favorite overall tunes we played in competition were City, Spain, and Times Square. Great tunes!

Got a few awards, not that I really feel I ever really deserved, but eh... at least it's something to take me back on occasion. I only went to state for IMTA auditions once (piano), but unfortunately got clobbered there (I actually heard that some of the judges favored certain styles, etc. over others, but that could've been just a rumor). And no, I'm not going to list any "real" awards here either, simply because I don't like doing that sort of thing.

Actually, I distinctly remember that high school jazz band getting a short local newspaper article once. Just an interesting tidbit I thought I'd throw out there.

    [edit]

Oh! Favorite pieces to play (piano), in no particular order:

Johannes Brahms - Six Pieces for Piano: No.2 Intermezzo in A: Andante Teneramente

Claude Debussy - Suite Bergamasque (entire)

Claude Debussy - The Girl with the Flaxen Hair

Eugenie Rocherolle - Souvenirs du Chateau: Le Salon de Musique

George Gershiwin - Prelude for Piano: I. Allegro Ben Ritmato e Deciso

Frederic Chopin - Prelude in Eb minor

Francis Poulenc - Novelette in C Major

Johann Sebastian Bach - Prelude & Fugue (BWV 847)

(and if anyone suggests Sergei Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G minor, they should have their teeth knocked out for excessive cruelty; I hated memorizing that whole darn thing)

PS If I remember anything else later, I'll make sure to tack it on, though that probably won't be necessary....

  14. That's just plain sad. I always understood that there was that little "paid for their appearance" line, but didn't know it was to that extent. I just figured it was for having the guts to show up and get humiliated for their stupidity, but I didn't realize that there was no real justice there. I've always panned court TV as being a mockery of the justice system, but had no idea that it was that bad.

  15. Well. Right off the bat...

"Worship me, and I may yet be merciful... Then again, maybe not...."

    - Korax (Hexen: Beyond Heretic)

"Conker, honey... Fancy going for a little bounce?"

"A bounce? ... Okay... Now this is what I call a platform game!"

    - Sunflower and Conker (Conker's Bad Fur Day)

"Thanks for playing Space Quest IV. As usual, you've been a real pantload."

    - Narrator (Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers)

    AND BEST OF ALL...

"The universe is a yawning chasm, filled with emptiness and the peurile meanderings of sentients."

    - Ulyaoth (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem)

  16. Normally I'd say Cowboy Bebop since it's a great default, it's a fairly short series (25 episodes if you include the movie), and and it's easy to process since besides a small overall plot, the episodes are mostly contained stories, but I don't know if the overall style is really you. Dang good music though.

However, I will definitely recommend Louie the Rune Soldier (just Rune Soldier in some cases) for you. It's really medieval fantasy / comedy, but it's also really cool. It's about the same length as Cowboy Bebop as well (24 episodes if I remember right).

  17. *sighs*

Yes, it was a scam. Yes, it was an illegal one. Why? Because of the terminology the defendent used in the description of the item did not fully match the items sent. Even if it is true that the item description did say that the items being sent were photographs, the items themselves did not not meet the full physical description of the items (photographs) sent to the plaintiffs. What the defendent did was illegal, even if only on a technicality.

Also, sure Judge Judy was derisive in her commentary. So was the defendent. Insulting and talking back to a judge is a pretty stupid thing to do as well. Even if she did sue Judge Judy for defamatory commentary, Judy would have equal grounds to sue her.

However, Judy was definitely wrong about one this - scamming is a job. It just isn't an honorable one. I also find myself mystified by the verdict - $5,000 USD to be paid in damages (the maximum allowable in small court cases). That's in excess of $4,500+ USD to be paid for defamatory comments and the personal time required to seek compensation / due process. That seems a little excessive to me...

  18. Drawing comparisons doesn't seem fair but it's to be expected. IMO all three consoles still only have a handful of great titles so far, so I think the game quality debate is pretty moot at this point.

As for the systems themselves, they could be better or worse. At least PS3 has Dual Shocks now. The 360 still has better online support than the other two, but that's overstating the obvious. The Wii is really just an assortment of cheap gimmicks. Once again, their in their off own little world, but at least you've got to hand it off to Nintendo for pulling off gimmicks that actually work from time to time.

In short, I have trouble favoring any one of the three systems over the other because I simply don't see any one of them as "most worthy" right now. Only time will tell. Until then, I think it really depends on what key franchises you want to play (Bioshock, Halo, Mario, Metroid, etc.).

  19. Any game baring the Apogee's mark

You forgot a couple of the instant greats btw, namely Wolf3D and Blake Stone (both published through Apogee). Heard some stuff here, but far too little. I know there's at least one more that's just escaping my mind at the current moment (it's not Xargon, that's for sure.... >_>), but perhaps I'll remember later. I often find myself wondering, however, what it might've been like if there had been soundtracks for games like Paganitzu, Monuments of Mars, or Kroz.

Also, in keeping with the thread title, I'd also like to suggest a remix of Area 0 (Walk Slow) from Guardian Legend. That tune is sooo killer. :-D

  20. Interesting. I found myself a bit put off at first because of the slower tempo, but after listening for the first minute or so, I became rather appreciative of it. It almost feels like the style was fused that of another game really (Mega Man perhaps? not sure...).

Now I'll admit the intro is a bit odd, but it works well enough into the main melody in the end that I really can't think of anything to say against it. It feels right even though it sounds a bit odd at first.

I liked the solo part of the second loop as well. It feels a bit minimal in nature and might play it just a little bit too safe, but overall really works well with the particular feel that you gave the tune, so I think that the majority of it is fine as is. However, the end of that particular section and the rather forced transition back into the regular melody doesn't work too aweful well. The small bit of drum solo that's there also lacks much luster. It really just needs something more to it and then a bit of work towards a better transition.

Contrary to what some people have said here, I actually like the ending the way it is. It does seem a bit odd to go into some more solo material here and then into a fadeout, but it's to that end that makes it seem that much more retro-ish to me. That's not something that I really much hear anymore but someone I would expect more of the era gone by. It works well IMO, but maybe that is just my opinion.

That said, I really do like overall what you've done with the tune. It does seem to go on for a bit more than it should (making it feel a bit repetitive in the process), but that's about the only other thing I can think of. Other than those few things, I think it's works fine in its own little niche. I don't really think that it's "Sonic" enough, but as an overall experience it is rather enjoyable. ^_^

  21. Good grief... that was awesome! ROTFL xD Captain N meets insanity! I appreciated the Pong, Space Invaders, and Q-Bert references the most. Seeing you kicking around Goombas and clanging Mario in the vulnerables was just icing on the cake.

I swear Game Over is the title of another video like this... but I can't remember.

Dang. I think I know what you're referring to but can't remember the specifics myself. Blast it. I hate it when that happens. >_<
