Looking for CnC on creating music for my game

Hello all,

Originally I was looking for a re-mixer to help me with the music for the game I am designing (which also happens to be my master's thesis): http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14834. Recently, though, I decided to see how it would come out if I tried my own hand at creating the music even though I am not musically inclined at all. I've mostly just been using FL Studio and messing around with midis from both popular songs and games, changing tempo and instruments and so on and so forth. I feel that some of it has come out okay, but I'd like feedback from others. You can see a screenshot of the game below, and you can see the login screen at http://lexicaster.com

Overall, the music is supposed to maintain the "majestic" and "playful" artistic style, while being "serene" (it is supposed to be very peaceful for the most part) and at times "aquatic." All the clips are kept short because load time is always a problem. They'd be looped in the game... I need to make music for a login screen, for towns, fights, bosses, just walking around, etc... I've tried to name the files by the general "feel" they gave me in order to start thinking of how they'd fit together in the game. Anyway, any sort of comments would be helpful :)

It helps hearing something like what you had in mind. I like these songs, they feel game-like, and the fact that they're not slick productions doesn't really matter - I'm a big fan of game music not only because of the songs themselves but the sound as well.

I don't really know if you can be using other people's music (e.g. MIDI's) in the long run though - it'd probably be easier to convince someone around here to make you some original music than get a license for using existing music, although I'm aware this is really what you had in mind.

I also don't really know how I could help you other than by making similar music for you, but I'd be the wrong person to ask for such a thing, at least right now. I'm much too busy doing similar things for other people already. :| But you already know that.

I think your best bet would be contacting the remixers you mentioned in the other thread and ask them up front if they want to help you. Information like the samples you just posted above or examples of remixes you like should help you make them interested. It's difficult to help out when you don't know what you're expected to produce, but you've given enough information by now to start contacting people. You're likely going to have to ask more than just a few - most skilled remixers around here are very busy people.

creating music for your own game is no mean feat, i kinda just opened the music files and typed what i thought the songs felt like without looking at the title. I've noticed that a lot of the music is very airy and light, it feels more heavenly or the "good guy castle" kinda music. It's definitely background music but sounds like it could be stand alone pieces if finished, which is very hard to accomplish. I am impressed that this is coming from a "first timer." I don't know how much help i can be but i'd be glad to try. If you have any idea's for music or a sound you need, I'd love to give it a shot.

:ocrgreen:

dream house - sounds like a cutscene or a teleport music

ballad - village destroyed, gameover

gameover - load screen, title screen

floating - flashback, gameover

grand accomplishment - definitely an achievement of some sort

joyous reunion - battle victory song

login - credits, save/load

walking - title, open map wandering
