Best program to rip DVDs to MPEGs

Okay, so I was trying to help my mom get a video file from a DVD tonight. I googled "DVD to MPEG" but all I found were truly piece-of-crap programs. The one I tried had a horrible interface and hung for a while. What are the QUALITY programs that can do this?

Which ones exist for Mac, as well?

Would have been easier to answer if ya were using a windows based PC imo

Only thing I can think of a dvd ripper program for Macs would be Xillsoft, gonna cost ya $50 though...

for windows: Magic dvdripper works for me just fine. http://www.magicdvdripper.com/ won't say much else though
