Palpable
Original decision: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=18757 2nd decision: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=22159 Contact info: Remixer name is Jabond23. Real name is Joe Nichols. Website is http://www.myspace.com/nintenjoe64 UserID is 25151 I've submitted this mix a couple of time before, but after countless hours and help from the peeps in the forum, i'm hoping its finally up to your standards. I did a rock remixed version of the dungeon theme from the original Legend Of Zelda for the NES that i titled Dungeon Of Desair. It also includes very small parts of the magic whistle and the item discovery theme towards the middle right before the solo, but the overall song is the dungeon theme. Its an awesome song that always brings back the days of old. I used a keyboard to play the synth leads and all the guitar parts played by myself. When i was making this song I really wanted to do an almost epic version of it by taking the original and making the riffs and solos soar. I attached the file in 192kbps mp3 format and if for some reason it doesn't come through you can also listen to it here: So please let me know what you think? Thank you, Joe (NintenJoe 64) ------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zophar.net/download_file/14178 - Track
anosou
This still suffers from many of the same issues from the previous version, the main one being overcompression. The mix is really squashed but still very quiet, lacking proper transients. The guitar playing and solos are still really good but the arrangement is still not very interpretive. It's getting there but you rely too much on following the same melody over and over again with slightly different approaches each time, you need to vary the arrangement up some more. The intro synths felt messy and there was a lot of clashing because of the delay that sounded off. The drums (especially the hi-hat) can sound better too, the crash cymbals were almost completely inaudible and kick+snare could've used some more variation in velocity. I'm sorry man but this still has some way to go. You need to rework the mixing and try getting some additional interpretation and variation in the arrangement. It's STILL a good start but not really there yet. NO(resubmit)
OceansAndrew
The playing on this is really nice, and is definitely the strong point of the song. The tone was good as well, Unfortunately, Anosou summed up pretty well the current issue with the mix. The compression is a little overdone, and ends up making the mix sound really small. I'd suggest bringing that down, so the mix has a little more breathing room. The arrangement has a lot of very small variations throughout, but in the grand scheme of things, doesn't stack up to really taking the track somewhere new. I did like some of the transition parts, and more stuff like that is a great way to take this to the next level. It really is a good foundation, but needs some additional work. no, please resub
Palpable
The problems are covered pretty well at this point. This is better than the older versions and don't lose sight of that, but this still has no breathing room, it's crammed end to end. The hi-hats take up a surprising amount of the mid-range, and that's the first place I'd tone it down. Less compression is probably a good way to go too. Keep at it, man, you are improving with each version of this! NO (resubmit)
