Compensating for latency when recording MIDI to FLStudio

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions for getting a good sound while still keeping the latency relatively low when using FLStudio 9? I like the idea of being able to use my MIDI keyboard to program the notes in, but I can't seem to record everything nicely because of the latency default being up around 70ms. When I lower it though (40ms), it sounds glitchy and I can't hear the true sound but its much more in time with what I'm playing in time with the music.

Is there a method to work around audio latency in computers while listening to playback while you record
