fish998
Hi, I've just uploaded a piece of music to youtube, it's a remix of the Commodore 64 loading music from Sanxion. When I say remix, I sequenced it myself in ProTracker on the Amiga about 15-20 years ago, it's not a remix in the sampled sense, it uses no samples from Sanxion, but of course I didn't compose it, that was done by Rob Hubbard for Thalamus. It was quickly flagged as 'matched third party content' (although the video is still up) and in the details box it shows- "Sanxion", musical composition administered by: CD Baby Now I've looked up CD Baby and they sell indie music and have several C64 Sanxion remixes on sale. So my question is - are CD Baby likely to own the rights to the actual composition, or indeed a license to use said composition, or do they just have the rights to the the remixes they are selling? Has the video been flagged in error, and should I dispute? My channel isn't monitized btw and is never likely to be, and as you'll see I've given credit to Thalamus/Rob Hubbard in the video description and the video itself. I don't want to claim ownership if that means I'm actually claiming I composed the music, because obviously I didn't, but I did produce this particular remix. Here's my vid btw - This isn't something I was going to submit to OCRemix btw since it's not suitable or of the required quality, but I figured someone here would be able to help, since I'm assuming this issue comes up regularly here. Thanks.
EC2151
I would just file a counter-claim around the fair-use principle, but other people should speak up and give advice.
fish998
Thanks for the reply. That sounds like the least risky option, especially given the amount of Sanxion remixes already on youtube. If anyone else has anything to add I'd certainly appreciate a range of opinions before I take any action. I was sort assuming this sort of issue cropped up regularly around here.
