Its really not too late to join in but you will be under a lot of pressure if you join in because its a short deadline and fierce competition. At least I know my production's getting better (I'm assuming) if it's "same ol' same ol'" with the rest of the genre, but then again I guess I need to distinguish myself more as an artist.
