Squire Cd
I just got a PSP and bought a USB cable to put music onto it. Well I plugged it in and it doesn't show that it's plugged in or anything. How do I get music onto the PSP?
Gollgagh
On the main menu, go to Settings > USB Connection Now, your PSP should show up on your computer as a removable drive. Music should go into the directory X:/PSP/MUSIC And for god's sake, post in the PSP thread.
Squire Cd
Well I figured out you have to go into USB mode. I then imported songs from Windows Media to the PSP but they do not show up in the music part of the menu, yet there is now space missing from my Memory Stick. Help please? Gollgagh
One of two things is happening, you either don't have the right format (The PSP will only play mp3s and wma), or you put it in the wrong directory. Check that you put it into the correct directory.
Squire Cd
Well I'm in Windows Media Player. It shows 5 different places to send it to: PSP MP3 MSSEMC MSSONY DCIM My first try, I sent the songs to PSP, didn't work. I just tried MP3, still doesn't show songs in the music menu. And now I have only 98MB left on my Memory Stick...
Squire Cd
I opened it up and deleted all the songs I put on there. So I got space back on my Memory Stick. I'm still completely clueless about HOW to get songs onto my PSP.
Gollgagh
Don't freak out. MP3 is not the right place to put it. It's much easier to use the PSP like a removable drive and access it from My Computer (or whatever the mac equivalent is) and to go to (assuming the drive is named X) X:/PSP/MUSIC If you're gonna be stubborn and use WMP, see if there is a sub-folder for PSP. Squire Cd
Ah ok. I had to create a new folder called "MUSIC" for it to work. thanks.

Squire Cd
For video, does it have to be any certain type of format? And does it go into the same folder that the MUSIC went into?
Gollgagh
Ah, that's a little trickier. For 2.X PSPs, it'll go into one of those funny named folders in the root, AV or MV10something. For 3.0 and up it's the X:/VIDEO folder. The only format that I'm aware of working is mp4. (Someone feel free to correct me, though.) Tck, I just thought of something. If you format the memstick using the PSP, it'll make all of the necessary folders for you.
