  1. hey i was just looking at hopefully buying FL Studio online and wondered if anyone could help me out with selecting the minimum amount (cheapest?) bits and pieces that'd let me do some:

    beat slicing;

    midi recording; and

    audio recording.

in addition to whatever else i might need to make some simple songs/music in general.

Looking at the online shop my guess is that i'd probably need FL-Studio Producer Edition and Slicex (VSTi). Maybe BeatSlicer.

so yeah I'm kind of getting into exploring making songs and music for myself in my spare time and just needed a little advice on what i should buy.

any help was/is/will be much appreciated!

oh and the shop i'm looking at is here http://shop.flstudio.com/

  2. IGN's review was spot on about some things. It does seem like they were doing things different just to be different. Like when one member fails, ALL of you fail, there's no saving your member, or the whole track.

Have you actually played a GH game before World Tour? That's always been how cooperative play worked. So it's not exactly being different for the sake of it.

My only complaint is that Australia won't get GHWT for another 3 weeks, and we're also getting Rock Band ONE the week before GHWT hits. God knows if we'll ever get RB2.

  3. It's ridiculous when the game in question is quite short and simple. Look at Bionic Commando: Rearmed as a counter-point. For 400 less points, I can get a game with better graphics, more replay value (difficulty levels, challenge rooms), multiplayer, leaderboards, and more carnal appeal. Wouldn't you say that list embarrasses smaller games like Braid?

Not really, because Braid just has a *different* style of graphics, as well as leaderboards, and speed runs for replayability. I guess you could say that Braid embarrasses games like Bionic Commando because instead of rehashing a classic, someone decided to attempt something new (and did a good job of it).

The people crying over an extra $5 must be in their early-to-mid teens, 'cause $5 is peanuts.

  4. Guitar hero: World Tour wins.

Because GH hasn't screwed over or boycotted every region outside the US. Unlike Rockband.

As someone who plays instruments and remixes, I'm not nearly as impressed with this as other people seem to be.

What's impressive is that users can now create and share songs to play in the game. Not the tools.

    Yay for more Guitar Hero.

  5. I'll be getting it come Thursday as well. But why are you so eager for other people to get it Atmuh, the coop and multiplayer modes aren't online, so you're still gonna need to have people come over to play it

I thought that there was online deathmatch, just no online coop. =/

  6. 22 years of age =D

I had a Wii exclusively (got it for my b'day last year) but this year I picked up a 360 (again, for my b'day). So for the year I had it on it's own, I played it quite a lot. I don't play it so much now, however.

The online is just so poorly done it isn't funny. I can understand trying to aim for anonymity between all users, but it is just ridiculous. Every game that I want to play with any of my friends requires both of us to go into that game and exchange 12-16 digit codes outside of the game (and usually outside of the Wii) before we can do anything. There aren't even any confirmations, Xbox Live is several degrees more user-friendly than Nintendo WFC. That and every time I browse the Wii section of a store, ShovelWare outnumbers all the decent games by 10:1 if not more. It's obscene.

Also, Brawl still isn't out in Australia. Honestly.

The Wii is fun, but I'd rather be playing my 360 or PC in my free time.

  7. You can grab a cheap bass off of eBay, I got mine for around $100 including postage and it was fine (nameless/unknown brand though, but fine for a noob like me).

You should also look at getting an amp so you can hear it. Practice amps are fairly small and cheap, so that's another plus for a beginner. I also picked up an electronic tuner for a few $ off eBay.

Now I just wish I didn't have to get up at 5am everyday for University so that I might actually have time to learn how to play T_T

  8. Better is too much of a broad and subjective term. It can be argued that the consoles may have a more powerful CPU or graphics, a more intuitive interface, and so on. But it's ignorant to state that any one console is better than any other.

That said, they do have their strengths and weaknesses, but who cares? I own a Wii and 360, and I only got them because they have the games that I like. I didn't sit down and have a wank over hardware specifications or theoretical polygon counts when choosing what I wanted to get.

I just find it weird that people get all riled up when the supposed superiority of their console of choice is questioned.

  9. their gameplay mechanic is eons beyond any SF game.

That's a bit of an over exaggeration. A lot of those games have taken their mechanics almost directly from SF, with some making slight alterations. They're different enough, sure. But not 'eons' beyond anything.

Looking forward to the new SF though. It's been over 10 years since SF3, so it's about time.

  10. I'm so glad they realized one of the stale elements of the platforming genre. The whole "collect-a-thon" idea is seriously getting old and tedious. I mean, I was fine with it in the original Banjo Kazooie and Mario Galaxy, but Banjo-Tooie seriously turned me off because there was millions of things to find.

Funny that you say collecting things is stale. Aren't there going to be a million pieces of vehicles to collect? =p

  11. what don't you like about it so far? the only issue i've got is that the camera's a little twitchy occasionally.

The camera is a bit awkward, considering it lets you pivot with the right stick, but it's always trying to get behind the direction you're moving in regardless. So that's kind of weird.

Also some graphical hiccups, like issues with clipping, textures visibly loading in, and pop-in.

And does anyone else hate driving in this game? The man can eat a burger to heal all his wounds, but can't take a corner to save his life. I wouldn't mind this as much if I didn't have to chase people in cars ~_~...

Having said all that, it's still pretty damn good, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone except GTA anti-fanboys.

  12. Well GTA4 is the first I've played of the series, and although it is fairly damn good, all the excessively high ratings it has gotten are not entirely deserved.

One of the better games of this generation? Sure. 10/10? No.

  13. Gametraders Robina!!

My girlfriend and I were like "WTF?!" when that was mentioned in the video.

    Why, you ask?

Because we live right down the bloody road from Robina where we do our groceries (and I insist on checking every game shop for bargains). That being said, Gametraders is a rip-off >_> but they're the only place here that'll import games.

It was just freaky to here a place that we go to regularly get mentioned in something in(ternet)famous.

  14. Nice video, and lot's of valid points.

But odd that EA re-releasing titles yearly is a bad thing, whilst Nintendo's Mario Party is up to the 8th iteration of the game and that's ok. What's up with the double standard?

Although I agree that games today aren't anywhere near the pinnacle of gaming, unlike games of the past. Yeah, maybe games now would be better than past games if they were all released today, no shit.

It's like when we were babies and started to crawl, and that was an awesome thing. Now if you're 10 or 15 or 20 years old and crawling around, you look retarded. Given that the technology behind gaming has gotten so much better over time, there should be a lot more triple A titles. Games that have an impact. But there aren't.

And most developers don't care because there is always some fool who is actually considering paying for something like Action Girlz Racing, and many other games like it that should not have gone beyond the initial brainstorming process.

Oh well, what can you do? =/

  15. You can't convert a demo to a video file directly (to my knowledge) because it's just recording player actions, so it isn't a video file.

    Anyway.

What I use for gaming videos is an app called GameCam. It hooks into the game app and intercepts something or other from the video card. So it basically records to mpg/avi what you're seeing in the game. It isn't as good as Fraps in terms of quality, but your machine doesn't need to be uber to use it (although I get a lot of slowdown while recording and playing TF2).

Of course the better way to go about it would be to make the demo file, then play it back (in-game) and use Gamecam (or whatever you end up using) to capture the video while it plays.

And on re-reading your post I see this is for TFC xD Gamecam should be fine to do the recording. I've used it for recording footage while playing WoW (works fine, slight FPS decrease), and my attempts at using it in TF2 were just for testing it out (that and the FPS went to shit, pretty much).

  16. Well whatever happens, I don't think anyone is really going to take the Wii's online too seriously (no matter how much better it may get once it's pay to use) until Nintendo whips out a harddrive peripheral.

I've had a Wii since the beginning of last year, and a 360 since 3 weeks ago. Nintendo is not going to get close to anything resembling XboxLive until they put some actual effort into their online component, and then also supporting that on the client's end (HDDs Plz).

Here's to hoping that whatever they end up doing is worth the time they're spending.

  17. Just to avoid confusion, Super Mario Fusion is the complete opposite of ^that, okeydokey?

So this game is the opposite of what I had said? A game where Mario picks up guns and uses them. From what I could be bothered playing, it seems that the game is somewhere between Megaman and Smash Bros. Spartan Mario is like a green Zero.

Telling people that the game is the opposite of what it is, is confusing...

But kudos to judgespear or whatever for putting the engine together. I wish I could do that. Even if the game ended up being Mario physics, Megaman gameplay, and some Smash Bros mechanics.

  18. The whole Mario + gun thing has been done, and in Smash Bros no less (the whole picking up guns and whatnot).

It might be a decent game considering it is only a fangame. But in the end it's just poorly rehashed Megaman with re-skinned everything and Smash Bros item mechanics.

Although if you like it, then.. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. But it sounds like a bunch of people here (including me) don't feel as though the game is.. buoyant...

    @arek: don't stfu. kthx. bai.

  19. Is there such a thing? Because at the moment I have a PCI TV Tuner card, and that's been all fine and dandy for a long time. Has a port for regular coax antenna cable, and composite a/v + s-video ports.

Now I've gotten myself an Xbox360 and wouldn't mind trying out the HiDef-ness. Is there such a thing as an external USB or Firewire (also known as 1394, I think. And i-link) device to let me plug in my 360's HDTV cable (the r/g/b + audio) into it for viewing on my PC?

And if there isn't anything along those lines, what would be my next best option? (besides getting a new tv)

A friend has mentioned that I can get cables and adapters to go to VGA, but I'm not too knowledgeable about this stuff and was looking for some advice and input.

    ty.

  20. I don't know. I just completed the beta. Once this game is finished, I won't have a single complaint. It is simply the best. I've dreamed of this kind of game for a long fricken' time. Its about time somebody made it a reality, and did a great job of it as well.

Ignoring all the infamous Mario block things, it has been done before.

Megaman, Contra, Metroid. Even the ammo bar for the weapons is taken from Megaman. And Spartan Mario is very WonderBoy-esque.

They did a good job of making the game and everything works the way it's meant to, however badly put together it is. But this kind of game has already been done, and done a lot better.

  21. Until we get some definitive details of the game's fighting system, I'd say it's too early to judge whether it's just a rehash of SF2.

Technically, every other SF has been a gameplay element away from being a rehash. Alpha had multi-level super bars, and counter moves. EX had guard breaks.

The new saving move looks to be the element that sets SF4 apart ever so slightly from SF2. And there's still plenty of time for changes.
