  1. I need to re-subscribe then.

Or you could just buy the July issue on the newsstand. Besides, if they reveal anyone new, it'll be all over the internet. In fact, I'm expecting to know those characters (if any) before I even get the issue.

I could, but I have been wanting to re-subcribe to Nintendo Power for a while anyway so not is just a good time to do it.
  2. Sorry is this is more old news, but Nintendo Power has confirmed that more Super Smash Bros. Brawl characters will be unveiled in the July 2006 issue.

Of course, I got that information from the Wikipedia article, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

    I need to re-subscribe then.
  3. I just finished unlocking every level/world, now I'm trying to get those 3 coins in every level.
    :nicework:

I have yet to beat the game... and I play it every day. I am just not that good at games like Mario :P

  4. Is it me or does New Super Mario Bros REALLY remind me of Donkey Kong Country games. It especially reminds of of DKC on the underwater parts of the game heh.
I remember thinking of Donkey Kong Country after just seeing a trailer with an underwater level it. I didn't know anyone else thought so :)
  5. Ugh, I misposted that in this thread instead of the wii thread.

Some there speculated that to distinguish Wii TP from Cube TP (They are completely separate versions) they might drop the classic control. I doubt they would though.

Even so, you can only hold one controller at once and if that controller's a wiimote I hope the control and camera is as smooth and intuitive as Wind Waker is.

As far as Phantom Hourglass, I certainly hope the camera is better than the abysmal camera in Super Mario 64 DS.

Considering Phantom Hourglass is classic Zleda over-head view, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's great news. So The D-pad control will be fine and no 3d cameras. Gotcha.
You control with the touch screen ;)
  6. I was also skeptical of controlling Kirby with a touch screen, and that worked out wonderfully. And, remember, Nintendo has never produced a bad Zelda game. I still stand by that statement, though some 'tards bash Wind Waker.

Kirby: Canvas Curse was not a traditional Kirby game meaning they could build the game in a way that fits the touch screen. They could make a new style of gameplay without ruining the game because it wasn't going to be traditional. Phantom Hourglass is going to be a traditional Zelda game, meaning they have to try and make the touch screen fit a preset style of gameplay and make sure not to ruin the gameplay.

One of the reasons I am skeptical is because the video's I have watched have just made it seem kind of difficult to do. But that doesn't mean that it's going to end up that way because a. the player's could just suck or b. the controls will be fixed by release.

I don't want crappy controls to ruin a Zelda game.

I'm getting frustrated at a friend of mine who insists that the New Super Mario Bros. shouldn't have been a DS title. He says portable games are a waste and that Nintendo should have launched it as a Cube title.

Personally, I feel NSMB is a perfect fit for the DS. And besides, the handheld market is more open to side scrollers, as people in general (myself not included) don't want to pay 50 bucks for a 2D game anymore, no matter how fun it is.

And, if we did things that way, there'd never be any good handheld games, as games like Metroid Fusion, Pokemon, and Minish Cap would have been put on consoles and not on handhelds.

I can't imagine having no handhelds because I play my handhelds more than my consoles. Does your friend even have a handheld system? If not tell him to buy one and learn how awesome they can be.

Interesting...I'm gonna keep looking forward to it lol.

I dunno about the rest of you but I'm personally looking really forward to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I know a lot of people bitched about the cell-shaded art style, but I still liked Wind Waker (oh, AND despite the damn sailing). I guess the nice thing about PH is that it's gonna cut out the part of the sailing that made it bad: navigation. Just plotting the points on the map will streamline and make it not feel like work IMO :P. At any rate though, I'm gonna be picking up that title since it just looks like fun.

I am a bit skeptical about controling Link with the touch screen. Regardless of my worries I am going to get it anyway.

The navigation in the Wind Waker never bugged me, it was the time you spent doing nothing as your ship went aross the ocean. The game is still awesome though...

  8. Yeah. And while several genres seem to work really well with the wii-mote (especially FPS, of course :P), fighting games aren't one of them. There'd be nothing intuitive about it. I'm sure everyone was relieved when they announced it wasn't gonna use the wii-mote.
I am sure a fighting game could work with the Wii-mote. But taking the risk of bad controls on a game like Super Smash Brothers is a bad idea.
  9. Heh. I know I am going to get owned for a long time. Sadly I don't own any of the Super Smash Brothers games, but I have played them alot.

Recently my friends and I have started to play the original SSB again. I get beat every time :P

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I once got over 700% damage ther with Ganondorf, with no alterations to the damage percentage. Crazy stuff.

  10. I love the scrolling stages. Stages like Big Blue and Poke Floats are so cool and the action is really intense when the stage is part of the challenge. It just makes the battle even more interesting. Think about it. If you want to create a truly dramatic scene, what do you do? Place the characters in as much peril as possible, and what's more perilous than fighting on top of racing hovercrafts at breakneck speeds? Have you seen The Matrix Reloaded? Isn't the highway fight scene freakin awesome?

Then again, My PvP experience with the game is limited to my brother. I've never really played the game competitively before.

That may be the reason you don't like them very much. If your brother isn't very good at stages like that then it must be pretty boring playing on them.

Of course the Wii version will be much different, you will be able to play online. Maybe after you get a dose of skilled competition you will learn to like them. Maybe, thats just me theorizing... you might just not like them at all regardless who you play with.

  11. I think they should dump the scrolling stages altogether, personally. They increase the odds of self-destructs too much, and that ruins the battles, IMO. Nothings more annoying than getting knocked into the road in Big Blue and being completely helpless.
When your knocked into the road in Big Blue it's possible to jump up before you get killed.

Really I don't think they should be done away with compeletely because they can provide a good challenge. You have to keep moving with the level while fighting. If your skilled enough you should be able to do both without getting caught by traps. Of course that doesn't mean that the level won't kill you occaisonally, because it will.

There will always be plenty of non-scrolling levels for you to choose from if you don't like playing on scrolling ones. ;)

  12. Stage Ideas!

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was some kind of underwater level? If not that at least one where at some points the level was above ground and at others it was below. It would make for an interesting game because things would be slower.

Another cool level would be one where you have to run from lava while fighthing people. It could get pretty intense.

  13. That gives me another idea. What if one of the items was a pitfall seed? Pitfall seeds can be buried in the ground and when they are they look like a fossil, but if you step over it you fall into a hole and are stuck there until you press a or something over and over again.

The same type of thing could happen in SSBB. You get the pitfall seed and then throw it down to make a trap. There would be some small indication that it's there so that it would be somewhat avoidable. Then if someone steps over it they would fall in and would have to press a button over and over again to get out. While stuck another fighter could come up and start beating the crap out of him.

Sounds pretty cool to me. :D

That might also be a nice Down + B attack for Nook himself. Have him set a pitfall down as a trap. He could only lay one at a time and those who stepped on it would be temporarily immobilized a la the results of DK's side + B Head Smash.

    ...Just a thought.

Oh, and RIDLEY MUST BE PLAYABLE! PLEASE!

That might get a little crazy unless they made some way to control it. If Nook could throw down as many seeds as he wanted to things would get pretty annoying and dumb. Maybe if he could only throw down one at a time it would work, but still that sounds a little cheap. I still think it would work better as an item.

That way it wouldn't be available all the time and would be less likely to become very cheap.

  14. That gives me another idea. What if one of the items was a pitfall seed? Pitfall seeds can be buried in the ground and when they are they look like a fossil, but if you step over it you fall into a hole and are stuck there until you press a or something over and over again.

  15. Playing as Tom Nook would be very interesting, but I am not sure if I could exactly call him fighter material. Unless of course he got really pissed about you not paying your loan...

I don't think we will see Nook as a fighter in SSBB. Maybe he could run a store where you can buy costumes and stuff. Actually that might be a pretty cool idea...

  16. I've lost interest in some of my DS games, but I still go back and play a lot of them. I still play Mario Kart a lot, I've played through Canvas Curse a couple times, Warioware occasionally, I'm playing through Mario and Luigi: PiT again, and Ossu, Tatake, Ouendan! gets better every time I play it. The only games I've really gotten into though since the DS's launch are Super Mario 64 DS and Mario Kart. Both of which I've put 80+ hours into.

I have to, especially Yoshi Touch & Go. I only bought it because I had money and I wanted a DS game... it doesn't entertain me at all anymore. Other than that I have been pretty happy with the DS games I have purchased and some of them I am surprised that I have been so satisfied. Take Meteos for example. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the game, and I had friends who had played it but didn't like it. But I got it anyway and now I love it.

Speaking of Meteos What the heck!?!

Also, I'm really interested in Contact. I read about it in Nintendo Power, but for some reason they didn't seem to have anything on it on ign. It sounds like an innovative RPG, created by Grasshopper (the studio that made Killer 7) and Atlus (the studio that made Trauma Center).

  17. @ The Damned:

You know what now that I think about it I have gone through the same thing. It went like Super Mario 64 DS -> Yoshi Touch & Go -> Kirby Canvas Curse -> Meteos -> Mario Kart DS & Animal Crossing DS(played them at the same time) -> Metroid Prime Hunters and now New Super Mario Bros. The only game I didn't do it with is Sonic Rush, but I don't like that game all that much.

It's weird to think about, but it happens. I doesn't happen with anything else either, not even GBA. Whats up with the DS?

    @ Bigfoot:

It's awesome. Easy, but still awesome.

  18. Wasn't Diddy Kong Racing supposed to be a GBA game originally? I remember seeing it listed as one of the early GBA titles when the system first came out.
Nah, it's originally a N64 game. There was an attempt to bring a Diddy Kong Pilot to the GBA, but it got changed to Banjo Pilot and sucked.

Reportedly, this port will have custom tracks. If so, I might actually buy it again.

Yeah, I kept on thinking to myself "if I ever owned an N64, I want it with Diddy Kong Racing". It's good to see it move to the DS, but I'm a little confused on how it's out there. Given that the original was made by Rare, what would you think will be of the use of Banjo, Conker and Tricky considering Rare's owned by Microsoft these days? Just curious, is all.
